TCM's Celebrity Tribute to the Star of the Month
katyscar11ett replied to GeorgeOBrien's topic in General Discussions
I don't think there was one on Robert Montgomery. I agree with you I love them. I do not remember any that you didn't mention, but I do love the one to Claude Rains and the one to Cary Grant, as you mentioned. I loved the story Michael Caine told about a lady coming up to him for an autograph, and saying 'you don't see many stars walking around', to Cary Grant, NOT recognizing Cary. Great story - and poor, silly woman, what an opportunity she missed! I think many stars were inspired by some of our favorite classic movie stars - but are likely too full of themselves to 'bother' to do a story about them. Pity! -
Hear you, George, loud and clear. :-)

Not who? Duke, his horse? ^^ Then I'll guess Gabby Hayes. Sorry, I don't know the name of the Kristofferson movie, because I don't care for Kristofferson. Actually, I must confess I've never seen Shirley Valentine either. I just remember hearing about the line "......a lot of men named 'dick' around" because I thought it was funny. I will likely look for it now, however, since I loved Educating Rita.

The answers are: Rebecca (correct Fred) Edward, My Son Harvey I was kinda afraid to ask this question because I knew that there likely would be answers that I couldn't answer, or that were likely correct, as well. Which, looks like there are. I'll have to leave some of those for y'all to discuss because some of them I've never even heard of. ^^ The Trouble with Harry, we might not have seen his face, but we did see his body. The Invisible Man, we did, of course, see Claude Rains at the end of the movie, I know you knew this Fred, and that you were just making a joke. I don't know if I've ever told you but I think you have an incredible sense of humor. You quite often make me laugh by things you say. ^^ Charlie's Angels 2, I'm sure this could be argued, because we never did get to see Charlie, but I think in the title, the name Charlie was being used as an adjective to describe the Girls, not a noun as in a name - but that's up for discussion, of course. The Thin Man is right, but I think they actually wanted a "name" in the title. The Sons of Katie Elder , I believe is correct, because wasn't Katie Elder dead by the time the sons got home? About the rest of them, I'm sorry, but I'm not sure. I haven't seen either Waiting for Guffman or Bring Me the Head of Diego Garcia.YOU would know better than I would. I actually got this question off of a card, and have always loved the question because it's a real 'thinker' so I thought I'd post it here. I hope you had some fun with it, as well. Another question: What 3 wonderful movie actors were in the 1964-65 TV series, The Rogues, as the three Rogues, and who played their Auntie Margaret? What a wonderful series, too bad it didn't last longer.

Wow............you guys are incredible! The support you've posted here makes me feel so much a part of this forum and so accepted - and boy, does that feel good. I sure did not expect all the kind and friendly things you've said. I appreciate it in mega-doses! Thank you! :-)

Caesar and Cleopatra?

Matt, that is cool! What a great line for an answering machine! ^^ Loved reading Plastic Jesus, as well. It's just been way too long since I've seen Cool Hand Luke, wish TCM, or any other non-commercial channel I get, would play it. Would you believe I had little or no use for Paul Newman until CHL? Since then, I've discovered many more great movies he's been in, and my opinion has changed dramaticaly. GREAT line from Beckett, Matt. My son and I really laughed over that one. I don't remember if I ever saw Beckett or not - but since I really like O'Toole and adore Burton, it's now a must on my list! Scarlett

I am incredibly happy to see this movie scheduled for March 5 on TCM. I much prefer this version to the others. Fredric March is superb as is Janet Gaynor. If you haven't seen this version, do yourself a favor and do so.

Name three movies, in which you never see the title character.

Myidolspencer, you wrote "I don't think I've ever known of a person that disliked Steve Martin." Well, guess what? Now you do. ;-)

CONGRATS TO MR. OSBORNE OF "WALK OF FAME" "STAR!"
katyscar11ett replied to spencerl964's topic in General Discussions
Larry, I so totally agree with you. The problem is that today's "younger generation" have never even heard of these grand dames. Pity! Whereas they know of Judge Judy, etc. Another Pity! What is the world coming to?!! No, don't answer that..........I know and it saddens my heart. -
I, too, like the Peter Lorre version better. I can't stand Doris Day, so even Jimmy Stewart couldn't save that one for me. Did you know that The Maltese Falcon itself was a remake? Maybe even twice? And some people actually prefer the original. I can't see how anything could be better than Bogie, Lorre and Greenstreet, for myself anyway. I don't know any more of the details, but one of the 'experts', I'm sure can fill in the details. ^^ I'm quite choked at Steve Martin, who I never did like, thinking he can remake all these classics. And I hear The Pink Panther is awful.

Jayne Mansfield? If she considered herself a star, she thought more of herself than I thought of her. I adore the movie Educating Rita. Wonderful performances by both Julie Walters and the wonderful Michael Caine. Scarlett

This isn't really technical, so I didn't post it under the technical thread - but may require being read by someone at TCM. I've been wondering for a long time, under the Daily Poll question, why there isn't an option that says "None of these". Sometimes it doesn't apply, but sometimes it does - like today's question about what 'else' Funny Girl should have won an Oscar for. And I don't think it should have won another Oscar. When questions like this come up, I don't vote for the question, BUT it's more than that. Not thinking it should have won an Oscar IS a vote. It shouldn't simply be discounted. I think people should be given the option of voting for "NO". I really would like to see this option added. Could someone at TCM pleae answer this. Thank you.

In the community page, where you vote for the daily movies, someone posted under the name of "Not Scarlett" "Stop the low balling ratings, please." Can you believe the audacity of some people? Most of my ratings were high - there were only a couple of low ones, obviously movies this person likes. Like someone is going to tell me how to vote. I may not really be Scarlett but I've got some of her attitudes, which I've been told all my life (which likely is not a good thing), and be damned if someone is going to tell me what to do. Do I sound angry? ;-) I would be if I thought this person was worth the time of day - but I'm more amazed that they would have the nerve to post that.
-
That is such a good movie - haven't seen it for ages - no wonder you were looking for it. :-)
-
No, PK, I knew what you were saying.......and agree wholeheartedly. :-)
-
For the actor, I'll guess Bruce Willis, but I think that's too easy. Probably is someone who wouldn't be obvious. Like who they had in mind to play The Godfather. Do you know that one? :-)
-
Count me in! For years I've been trying to find my "favorite" actress........and I really do think it's the lovely Myrna. Loy and Powell can not be beat, IMO.

Harry Callahan in Sudden Impact? Scarlett

Shirley Valentine???

Welcome, Chris. Sorry, I can't help with the movie title.....but others can, I'm positive. ^^ Yes, I love Arsenic and Old Lace, too, it's one of the very best ever, IMO. Daddy Long Legs is often on Fox. I think it was on again in the last few days. Hans Christian Anderson is played quite frequently on TCM, usually once or twice a year. If I'm not mistaken, it was on not too long ago. Scarlett

Thanks TZ, that puts my mind at ease. Movieman, David Soul....puhlease......how wonderful that must have been. ^^ Coffeedan, I would be really interested in seeing Escape in the Desert sometime....and thanks for the bit of history, I didn't know where the word Nazi came from, now I do. Scarlett

Shill, your list is really funny! I barely ever read the requests but my goodness people can be really ............"silly", let's say. ;-) I can see where this would really PO some people, it doesn't win any brownie points with me either. It sure makes a person wonder how often these people visit this site or turn on TCM. The last request for The Devil and Miss Jones which was requested yesterday and aired last night would be very funny if not so "silly". I wonder if this person thinks they were responsible for the airing? ^^ Pktrekgirl, I only put in requests for movies that haven't been seen for awhile, also, and try to buy DVDs when I can, but I can't always afford it. That's ok for people who have money.....but for those who don't, we sometimes have to request the movie, anyway. Scarlett

Summer Under the Stars 2006 wishlist
katyscar11ett replied to iloveperth's topic in General Discussions
Donna, if that is true that Peter Lorre was SOTM in October 2004, then that would be just my luck. :-( I was without my dish from Sept - Dec of 2004, due to long vacation, etc. I put it on 'hold'. What great timing, huh?!
