Ray Milland in Lost Weekend and Jack Lemmon in Days of Wine and Roses. Drunks.....especially recovered ones.......are near and dear to my heart. But yes, I find them hilarious sometimes, as well. For funny.....Lee Marvin in Cat Ballou.

How wonderful! And apropos. Thanks for sharing this. I don't often watch the Oscars, but now will have to. :-)

Claude Akins and Simon Oakland.

Wow.....what an incredible idea, Fred. TCMProgrammer, are you listening. A history of film noir, and film noir type, would be fascinating! M is a wonderful movie, as is Stranger on the Third Floor. Peter Lorre at his finest, in both. I've been suggesting a Peter Lorre month for a long time. I haven't seen the other one you mentioned Pandora's Box? but would love to. In fact, why a night? Why not a weekof film noir evenings? Scarlett

One of mine is "What we have here is failure to communicate" from Cool Hand Luke. I sure wish TCM would show that movie!!! *hint* Yes, I know it is 'later years'.......but "classic", I have come to believe with the help of this group, is in the heart of the beholder. And, Cool Hand Luke is a classic to me. Woody Allen fans must be way more "in the know" than I am because that is one man I absolutely cannot stand.

I'll sure second that ....... and some we haven't seen for awhile, please. I'd love to see Kiss of Death.

Being the programmer, you should know the answer to my question. Why does the Canadian audience have to have a different schedule? Is it because of the *&^%^**(*#$@ CRTC (Canadian Radio and Television Commission) and their "Canadian content" rule that a certain amount of the programming shown HAS to contain Canadian content? Why, oh why, can't they leave people alone?!! I've tried to compare schedules to see if the replaced movies have Canadian actors in them.......but it isn't always easy to tell if the actors are people who are quite unknown (sometimes it's easy to tell, but not always). This question has been bothering me from the onset and I'd sure appreciate a knowledgable answer. Thank you very much. Either way, US or Canadian, TCM is the best and can't be beat! Thanks for the great quality you provide.

Thanks so much feaito ..... and path, too. Y'all never let me down! I didn't know if I'd given enough information for anyone to ever get it, but I shouldn't have worried. I want to see this movie again, badly, so now I know what I'm looking for. This will be such fun. Thanks again.

~*~Classic Film 21 Questions~*~
katyscar11ett replied to littletramplover's topic in Games and Trivia
*bonk* (that's the sound of me hitting Matt over the head). ^^ That was soooo misleading........but not really, Matt. You asked the questions perfectly, it was my fault that I was going with film noir or war-time. I really laughed when I read the answer, and yes, I sure have seen the movie. Good question! -
And I finally thought I had one in the bag. :-) See what I mean about being out of my league with so many incredibly knowledgable people. Oh well, that won't keep me from trying. The odds are that I'll get one sooner or later......my guess is later, lol.

Hey, coffeedan, I'll gladly take a half credit, especially when I'm in the company of such incredibly knowledgable people. I just kinda recognized the quote so as you likely know it was only half a guess. hehe Scarlett

I KNEW you'd get it, vallo. *grin* Yep, it's Robert Taylor, alright. Can't you just hear Barbara Stanwyck, when she was angry, calling him "Arlington Spangler"? Of course, I've always thought that Humphrey must be one of the most awful names to have and I'm sure Lauren Bacall used that one on Bogie, too. How did he ever make it with that name? I'm surprised..............and pleased..............that no one got him to change it.

The most underated actor was.....

Good news (the award)..........and bad news (his health)...........about Richard Widmark.........I sure hope he's OK. I really like him, as well. Tommy Udo will always be one of my favorite roles ever. Maybe Bob Osborne hasn't interviewed Widmark because Widmark didn't want to be interviewed......it's not always up to TCM. -
Is a movie you don't like a waste of time?
katyscar11ett replied to markfp2's topic in General Discussions
For me, I don't believe that anything in life is a waste of time....even a bad mistake.........IF I can learn something from it. Movies are no different. If it has nothing to teach me and I can find nothing at all to learn from it, try as I might, then, like someone already stated, I find it two hours of my life that I wish I could get bad. Luckily, not very many films fall into this category, even if I've only learned how NOT to do something. Due to a bad set of circumstances, and an unintended error on my part, I've even learned something ethnic on this list that I didn't know before. So all learning is good. Scarlett -
Streetcar Named Desire or On The Waterfront
katyscar11ett replied to movielover11's topic in Your Favorites
I'm definitely not a Brando fan and the only movie I ever liked him in was The Godfather. But, to answer the question as written, as much as I adore Vivien Leigh, I can't stand Tennessee Williams or anything he's ever done.......and On The Waterfront was a great movie, so my vote is absolutely On The Waterfront. -
~*~Classic Film 21 Questions~*~
katyscar11ett replied to littletramplover's topic in Games and Trivia
Don't have a clue but I wish someone would guess it. I'd sure love to see this movie. :-) -
One of the strangest real life names I ever heard for a movie star is Arlington Spangler Brugh. Especially for a hunk. I thought I'd post this as a trivia question. Anyone know who this was? I didn't know if it was ok to post a question on another already started thread or not, so I'm making a new thread.

I've been doing so good with asking questions.....thanks to all your wonderful help....so I'm gonna ask one more. Another movie I saw when I was about 11-12 (longer ago than I care to admit). It was a period piece and the man was in prison. He was in love with a lady and every night they would meet in his dreams......and it seemed more real than not real. I think one or both of them died in the end....and were together forever......but I can't be sure about that last assumption. All I remember vividly is them always meeting in his/their dreams, I think they had the same dream, well, actually, like I said, I think the dreams were more real than reality. Sorry I can't provide more than this, I know it's slim pickins. Any ideas? Thanks.

serious bob montgomery fan.....
katyscar11ett replied to violaviolet's topic in Information, Please!
That really makes me angry......Bob likely could have gone a lot further than he did if not for that, he was sooooooo good! Thanks Violet, I didn't know that about Bob and Mayer. I agree about EEH and Frank Morgan, both very good actors. -
Douglas Fairbanks in The Three Musketeers? Scarlett
-
I will guess that either Ginger Rogers says it to Joel McCrea in Primrose Path.......or that Linda Darnell says it to Paul Douglas in Letter to Three Wives.

Hi Rickspade and welcome! For a first post, that was a great one.......well said!

New to classic movies and would like some suggestions
katyscar11ett replied to P73Oregano's topic in General Discussions
The ones you already mentioned wanting to see are very good: To Kill a Mocking Bird, Doctor Zhivago, and The Magnificent Seven - especially TKAMB. There are MANY other wonderful ones coming up this month. There is a forum called "Your Favourites" in which there is a thread called "A Great Movie Alert" posted by path40a. That would be a really good place to start since he posts some very good information. Happy viewing!
