serious bob montgomery fan.....
katyscar11ett replied to violaviolet's topic in Information, Please!
Violet.....what do you mean by this statement......I thought Bob was pitch perfect in Night Must Fall. He could have very well walked away with the Oscar that year had it not been for Mayer? I, too, love Bob Montgomery, especially in Night Must Fall and Here Comes Mr. Jordan (imagine both Bob and Claude Rains, what a wonderful treat). What do you mean if it had not been for Mayer"? Please fill me in. Thanks. I've also DVRed a lot of Bob movies and am slowly watching them, he is simply wonderful! The more I see, the more I like. -
Sandy and Dysthymia, thanks so much for the answer. I have never seen A Fish Called Wanda, although it is on my 'to do' list..............and I have never seen Kevin Kline in a movie, I wouldn't know him if he walked in the room right now. *g* So, I guess I really, legitimately, did not know. Now I do, so thanks. Scarlett

If You COuld Bring Back Any One Person...

Peter Lorre - because he truly was/is in a league of his own. As much as I love many actors, there were many leading men, many wonderful singers, many beautiful actresses - but there was only ONE Peter Lorre. And Claude Rains, for personal reasons, I'd ask him if he'd adopt me. :-) Scarlett -
I'm really looking forward to The Graduate because I have NOT been able to see it on another channel in a long time. I guess it depends on what channels you have. I know it's been on AMC, but for obvious reasons, AMC isn't even in the running anymore.

Heck, we may as well guess all of them. I'll guess Ty Power. :-)

Movies That People Tell Me I'm Supposed to Like....
katyscar11ett replied to bhryun's topic in Your Favorites
BestEra, thanks for answering my question. Colorizing would turn me off from the get-go as well. However, if you're not a Cagney fan, that explains it a bit, as well. I really would suggest (unless you can't tolerate Cagney at all) that someday you watch it again, you might be surprised (and maybe not). Sheri, I can't stand James Bond movies either, so you're not totally alone. -
Time zone setting for schedule

Thanks for your answer .............. personally, I don't have any trouble being patient as long as I know that these changes ARE coming sometime. It's really hard to be without certain features after being used to them. My biggest problem is not being able to view things in my time zone. So, it's nice to know these issues are being addressed. -
Movies That People Tell Me I'm Supposed to Like....

BestEra, although I like Picnic and Bus Stop and love Citizen Kane, I can see why someone might not like them. I just have to ask you though, why you don't like Angels with Dirty Faces. I've loved that movie since I was a kid and just can't see anything about it not to like. I'm just curious, can you please explain why you didn't like it. Thanks. ^^ -
Mongo....or anyone.......I'm going to ask this here so I don't have to start a new thread. In the preview of the Oscar movies that they show on TCM, where they have short clips from many movies, there is one that I've been wondering about for a long time. I've got all the rest of them except this one so please tell me what movie it's from. It's a pair of legs up in the air and a man opening them and looking through them at the person. I can't make out the person or the movie. Thanks.

Hedy Lamarr, Rita Hayworth and in later days Ann-Margret. Fred....thanks for the information about Dante's Inferno. I recorded that off FOX a few months ago, without knowing about Rita, now will have to make it a priority to watch.

Rusty, thank you SO much. And you say that I have a good memory! ^^ Great remembering.......and wonderful research. I sure hope I get to see that movie again some day, and that it's not all hacked. That isn't good news, at all.

Classicmovieweek Movie of the Week.

The Little Giant was played within the last 6 months so it'll likely be on again. I'm happy to see The Sea Wolf on, too. Also, I am very happy that Errol Flynn's The Sea Hawk will be shown soon......they didn't show that one during Errol's Star of the Month. -
If that is so then Robert Osbourne looks better dead than most people do alive. :-)

filmlover, good post! Perth, I, too, do NOT like Jeanette MacDonald - but, it's personal preference, as you said. Soooo, instead of complaining about it, I'll just watch some great movies that I have already recorded off TCM, on Jeanette's nights. There are still 6 other nights every week. There is always something great about TCM if you look for it, instead of wasting time griping. Oooo - I DO like Ben M. :-) Again, different strokes...........

You know, "Sage" I've noticed you correct more than one person's spelling in this forum. I really don't think it's appreciated. A real sage would know better than to try to make themselves look good at everyone else's expense. Just my humble observation. Scarlett

I thought it was the housekeeper - or yes, the nurse - that heard Kane say "Rosebud"???

Mongo, you beat me to it, but I haven't been able to find my copy yet, so good thing. I was thinking maybe that scene was in a 'flashback' that Kirk had, but I guess not. We'll find it sooner or later. hehe The Usual Suspects is a good movie, and I saw it not that long ago, so maybe that IS where I heard it, as well. Although that movie was made a lot later, one would think, than the one that was "maybe" a Kirk Douglas movie. One way or the other, I'd sure love TCM to air Letter to Three Wives.

I saw this movie when I was a kid and only remember one scene in it........naturally, a kid wouldn't forget this scene. Trucks were leaving a place and there was one soldier that some of the others picked on. He had found a small dog that he really liked and it was running along behind the truck he was in. Some of the guys told him to call it and bring it with them. He did call it and when it was within distance, someone shot and killed it.....and laughed about it. I remember this really disturbing me as a kid. I look for the scene whenever I watch a war movie but haven't yet found it. I have no idea who was in it but I'm sure someone will know the answer. :-)

What did they "do"........ that could be taken a lot of ways. I'm going to guess that what they have in common is marrying men younger than themselves.

If memory serves correctly.....was it Carol Lombard?

What Star would you like to see a month devoted to?

Burton.........YUM! I consider Burton the best part of Liz Taylor. A frequent dilemma I often have is whether or not to watch a Burton/Taylor movie..........can't stand her..........love him. Burton usually wins out. *grin* -
I love Cary Grant, and ALL his movies, but my favorite is Arsenic and Old Lace.......I also like a seldom mentioned one called People Will Talk with Jeanne Crain. Very different kind of movie.

I found Lost in Translation to ONLY be 2 hours of my life that I'll never get back.

Kat, don't feel guilty, you've given us all food for thought, which is fun. Letter to Three Wives is one of my favorite movies and I don't remember a scene like that, but memory often fails. Douglas is indeed married to Ann Sothern, happily I might add, regardless of Addy Ross. And I believe they have 2 sons. He does mix cocktails for the guests, however, they are liquor cocktails, I'm sure. The thing that throws me is "pursues a widow with 2 small boys", which as I've mentioned, he's happily married in 3 Wives. I do have a copy of this movie and am going to search for it. We had water back-up in the basement last summer and most of my videos are packed away, but I'm going to look cuz this question is really taxing my brain. *grin* Somewhere, I do remember a scene in which these 'potassium cocktails' are discussed, whether it be in 3 Wives or another movie...be it Kirk Douglas or someone else. Inquiring minds want to know. lol
