  1. Oops, sorry for taking up 2 spaces but I was gonna ask this as well. If you knew the gorgeous Paulette Goddard, did you ever meet Chaplin?
  2. Larry, the more I hear about Nell the more fascinating I think she is. You should consider writing a book about HER, not just the movie stars you've known. Of course, that could be thrown in for good measure. heheh Has there ever been a book about her? She sounds just scrumptious. I'd love to hear or read more. Scarlett
  3. Well....................yes...............that's why I asked the question in the first place.
  4. Widmark would be a good one, for sure. I'd love to see Kiss of Death again. Tommy Udo, what an incredible character! One of my very favorite roles. I wish Widmark would have remained a 'bad' guy. :-)
  5. Very recently, I saw a "bit" in which the female announcer on TCM pronounced George Sanders as George Saunders. I remember remarking to someone about it.
  6. Matt, I just noticed that you're from Happy Dale. Very cute. Have you run into Teddy Roosevelt lately?
  7. All the knowledgeable people on this list truly inspire me to watch movies that I might not watch otherwise. Foreign Films are something that I plan on watching more of, so far I've only watched a few - M, La Strada and The Blue Angel - and loved them all. The Blue Angel certainly is depressing, however. Thank you for discussing these things so that others, like me, can learn. :-) I'm going to watch for some of the movies listed by y'all below.
  8. Not me - but I'm sure it would be in his daughter's book. Has anyone heard anything about this rumored book. I sure hope it does get written. I really want to learn more about this man. My opinion - and it's only an opinion - upon reading that he was married 5 or 6 times and got along well with all his ex-wives, would be that he was very easy-going and easy to get along with, so I would be surprised to hear about him disliking his co-stars.
  9. Mongo, thanks so much for your answer about Cagney's award speech. I think it would have beeen great to have heard that speech. I just adore Cagney. You just know everything. ^^ We are lucky to have you here. Scarlett
  10. I'm saddened to read that John Dall didn't star in more movies. He's one of my latest finds and I've been looking forward to seeing him in more roles than The Corn is Green and Rope. I guess I won't, except for Sparticus, which I haven't seen for awhile. I quite enjoy him.
  11. I was sure hoping that this year we would see some Academy Award winning films that haven't been shown lately. For instance, I was really hoping Stalog 17 would be shown. Although, I do enjoy the schedule, most of them are the same as every other year. It would sure be good if 'others' were shown. They do have a year in advance to prepare and 'arrange' for some other studios films. Anyone agree?
  12. I mention this one often, cuz it's one of my favorites....but it really is depressing....Of Mice and Men. Chaney version, of course. I have a handicapped child, so it might be more depressing to me than most. I find it hard to watch and don't watch it often but it's truly a great film, as most of you know. A movie that I totally love but never fal to cry at the end of is Richard Gere and Jody Foster's Sommersby. If you are a romantic, and haven't seen this...DO.
  13. Nothing that everyone hasn't figured out already...........but my favorite always is at the end of Casablanca when Conrad Veidt is on the phone calling for backup and is shot and falls to the floor taking the phone handle, with cut cord, with him. That one never fails to amuse me.
  14. I was just watching Yankee Doodle Dandy this morning - and wondered if, when Cagney accepted the Academy Award for it, he said "my mother thanks you, my father thanks you, my sister thanks you, and I thank you". I think that would have been 'cute' - but maybe TOO cute for Cagney. Do you have access to any Oscar books that might answer this question? Thanks Mongo.
  15. Lon Chaney, Jr. ........ Of Mice and Men.
  16. Fred, thank you for explaining the term Bollywood.
  17. This is good news TCM programmer. Thank you muchly. :-)
  18. Larry, I think a book would be wonderful, I'd love to know all the 'dirt' that you know - and I'll bet you know lots. :-) I do so appreciate the fact that you are such a gentleman, though, and commend you for that.
  19. While Angela will be great to watch, I LOLed at Path's comments and couldn't agree more. :-)
  20. While I liked The Greatest Show on Earth and LOTR and totally believe that Liz Taylor should never have won even one academy award, the question was what you think the worst was, so I won't debate these issues. My absolute answer is Rocky. I thought the show stunk and the fact that Sly Stallone is even CONSIDERED an actor makes my guts wretch. I won't go on but I think Sly is a JOKE - in fact a huge one. I can't believe I'm even taking 1 minute to mention his name, I dislike him that intensely.
  21. Ditto! I'm glad to hear others feel the same way. I really thought they should have put the tribute some other night. I certainly DO agree there should have been a tribute, although I'm not a Shelley Winters fan myself, but I feel ripped off because we're missing some of the promised Montgomery films. I, too, love Robert Osborne's comments - and if I am taping a movie, always try to get it on a night when it's introduced by Bob. ^^
  22. Since I do know quite a bit about movies, I feel kinda dumb asking, but I've heard the term many times and don't know what "Bollywood" means. Could someone please tell me. Thx. I also enjoy the anime films - and think it's in keeping with TCMs great policies to show the BEST of them. Although I don't consider myself an old **** (some would I'm sure) and truly believe that age is a state of mind, it is great to see what my kids are enjoying and always talking about - anime. Good work TCM.
  23. I would really like to believe it was bad judgment is all - if so, then I'm certainly willing to retract my previous comment. It's nice to be friendly here and try to get along. :-) I think re-registering, as suggested, would be a really good idea.
  24. You could go down in a blaze of glory NOW and we could quit hearing this crap from you. Pretty opinionated attitude isn't it .... old people suck? Scarlett
