  1. Ben, you're doing great in my book. Keep up the good work. Sam, I totally agree with you - good try. There will always be someone who doesn't agree, which is great - but then there's always those who will argue about anything, which I find quite amusing. Message was edited by: scarlett
  2. I LOVE him! In anything he does - I've never not enjoyed a Robert Montgomery film. Mr and Mrs Smith, The Last of Mrs. Cheyney, especially Night Must Fall and Here Comes Mr. Jordan - and countless others. I'm incredibly pleased to see so many of his films on TCM this month, a lot I haven't seen and really look forward to. Thank you TCM.
  3. Here! Here! I'll second that motion! :-) Mongo, I gotta ask, where did you get the nickname Mongo? I know there's a story, and likely movie, there but I can't say I can recall one. Likely one I haven't seen.
  4. I don't - but there sure should be one. Robt Osborne is the best!
  5. I enjoy listening to Bogdanovich's stories, they make the movie all that much more personal. It's great that he actually interacted with these wonderful people. I also think he does pretty good impressions. I hope he's around for awhile. Me thinks that some people are going to complain NO MATTER WHO is doing TE. It's happened before Bogdanovich - and no doubt it's gonna happen after Bogdanovich.
  6. Get serious! I think you're stepping on a lot of toes when you start criticizing Robert Osbourne. I saw that intro and don't see where you get snobbish from it. I think you're taking a lot of things way too seriously and even out of context. When Ben Mankowietz called The Greatest Story Ever Told a flop (or whatever word he used that you didn't like), I think he was referring to the box office receipts at the time. I'm sure he wasn't voicing a personal opinion. I saw that, too, and sure don't remember him being cocky about it. Why don't you look at all the great things about TCM instead of picking it apart. Especially the person who is in BC. Do you realize how lucky you are to HAVE TCM? Canada couldn't get it for so long, I would think you would still be bathing in it's glory. The first YEAR I had TCM, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. What are you comparing it to . . . the CBC?
  7. Johnny . . . and others . . . so well said! I've considered making a thread like this but never got around to it. :-) God bless TCM and I never forget that. I'm in Canada and have had TCM for 6-8 years - when Canada was unable to get it. My satellite provider thinks I live in the US, which of course, involves a lot of travel to the US, etc. every time I need to pay a bill, (which I do pay yearly) as well as anything else. Luckily I don't live too far from the border. Why do I do this? Totally because I wanted TCM so bad! I was willing to go to any lengths to get it. So, I count my lucky stars for all the wonderful service they provide and fantastic movies they show. I LOVE TCM!
  8. I have noticed that there are going to be some good horror movies toward the end of January. Thanks TCM for that. I agree with you about the old Hammer films, my son loves Christopher Lee, due to Lord of the Rings, and he's never seen him as a young horror star, which I think would be fun.
  9. Elysia - how beautifully put - and how accurately true! Thank you indeed, Mr. Osborne.
  10. HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL! I have said this before on 'some' thread, so I'm not just saying it because of the holiday season. The movie that brings me up the most is Scrooge with Alastair Sim. It just always makes me 'live in the moment' and realize that all is not lost and that things CAN be changed. I watch it when I need to no matter what month it is. :-)
  11. I didn't know Gregory Peck had died, I must have missed that one. :-( I'm so sorry to hear that. I JUST got done watching Gentleman's Agreement on FOX, great movie with Dorothy McGuire and John Garfield. And watched Guns of Navarone last night. He's a great actor - and has been in so many wonderful films, but like many people, I love To Kill a Mockingbird the most. His portral of Finch is fabulous. He also stars in my favorite western which is called The Gunfighter.
  12. Thanks Larry. Good information to know about a movie I love.
  13. Thanks Cheryl. I didn't know there was a bio on Lorre. I'll be lookin'. I'm so glad you posted this information and yes, a month devoted to him at this time would tie-in wonderfully. I wonder how far in advance they decide on Star of the Month? TCM Programmer are you there? hehe
  14. Haven't read it, and always wanted to but can't find it. So if anyone has could you please comment on it? George Raft's autobiography called something like Toss of the Coin. Thanks.
  15. Thanks. I couldn't remember if they did or not. That's great to know that sooner or later they will all be on. And the Universal boxed set really does explain why they haven't been on recently.
  16. I so agree with you - and also wish to thank TCM. I know they often show Robert Montgomery's films . . . but it's gonna be great to see so many in one 'place'.
  17. Fealito ........ you are so good at this, I'm just wondering, are you in the business or just a movie fan? I wish I had your knowledge of trivia. Good stuff!
  18. If I keep saying it often enough, maybe someone will listen ??? Peter Lorre.
  19. Gotta agree with the already posted . . . Orson Welles and Claude Rains. It's certainly easy to see why they both came from radio. Also, anyone with a great Southern accent. I love southern accents. Y'all has to be the best word ever - and having been in the South a lot, I borrowed it from them. :-)
  20. OMG - I am so impressed! TCM, it's no wonder why I love you so! Thanks TZ, I likely never would have seen that. 'shakes head at herself' And also Noreen because I'll try tyour suggestion the next time I go to IMDB - if I ever HAVE to go there again. ^^
  21. priorto1949, I really understand what you're saying - I feel much the same way. Although I do make exceptions up to 1959. Otherwise, I wouldn't get to see Tony Curtis, Kirk Douglas, Burt Lancaster and others. But my prefernce is definitely pre-1949. I do watch other movies and enjoy lots of them .... but what I'm drawn to usually ends up being before '49. The only thing I can advise is to get TCM's monthly schedule since the year is included with each movie. Better yet, subscribe to Now Playing - I'm going to do that for the first time this year. Happy viewing!
  22. Why doesn't TCM ever play any of these horror films? Dracula with Bela Lugosi, The Invisible Man with Claude Rains, The Wolfman with Lon Chaney Jr., The Mummy with Boris Karloff. I know they play Frankenstein, King Kong and the silent Phantom of the Opera which I do appreciate. But - do they ever play the ones I mentioned? I can't remember if I've seen them on TCM (don't think so but if I did then it hasn't been for a long time) OR if I saw them on AMC before it went to the dogs. TCM Programmer is you're listening, could ya, would ya - I already know should ya......yes! Please! :-)
  23. Not really the place to ask this maybe - but if you can't ask your friends, who can you ask? And I can't find a place for questions at the IMDB site. So ........... IMDB is such a fabulous site, I've never looked up anything that I haven't found out something about ........ but they don't tell what studio a movie was made at. My personal database is set up for that info, which I like to provide, so does anyone know of another place that does include the studio that made the film? Thanks.
