  1. CeeCee, I'm in southern Alberta, too. :-) I know you're life is gonna take on new meaning with TCM - lol - mine sure did! Welcome to the boards! Brent, that is really unfortunate that there are substitutions - but hopefully not too many - as long as the CRTC keeps their noses out, we should be fairly fine. hehe I'm going to download both schedules when I get some time and compare them, just out of curiousity. Also, welcome to the boards. This is a fun place to spend time. BTW, S'toon is my 'home town'.
  2. It 'looks' to me as if Robert Montgomery is the star of the month in January. I know TCM plays his movies quite frequently but there are tons in Jan. which I'm glad of cuz I sure love this talented actor. I thought I liked Elizabeth, which I certainly did, but once I discovered her father - - - - - look out! lol
  3. Hi Larry! Hope you are doing well "up" there. hehe Didn't Ty also have a son? I was sure I saw a picture of him once and he was gorgeous and the spitting image of his dad? Maybe he was even in a movie?? Do you know about that - - my memory is not cooperating and my computer time is at an end for the nite or I'd do a search and try to find out more myself. lol I need to get some time to come on here and read about your latest 'escapades'. :-) Katyscarlett
  4. Nope - and don't really care either - but thanks for sharing.
  5. YIPPEEEEE! I am so happy for you fellow Canadians - high damn time! I've been getting it right along ----- long story ------- but I am so glad that Canada is finally on the bandwagon. I'm gonna keep on getting my American fed however cuz I just know there will be issues with "Canadian content" which will annoy me to no end. I hate the CRTC! ENJOY!!!! :-) Sooooooo much great fun!!!
  6. Wow! What an interesting thread - and go, Helen baby! lol I totally agree with you - if someone doesn't like the great stuff on TCM - change the channel and SHUT UP! TCM is wonderful. I've tried to read through most of this thread - but she's a long one - anyway, I love Robert Osbourne, he will ALWAYS been the best. Just last night my son and I were watching the clip of Bob walking along the street (my, he's a big boy, isn't he? Doesn't look that big when he's introducing movies but he stands heads above others on the street. Handsome, too. hehe) Anyway - I was telling my son that if I could choose someone; actor, director, etc. to have a conversation with, I would choose Bob - he has to have had the most interesting life going, and met so many terrific people. :-) Not in the same ball park, at all, but I did like Nick Clooney on AMC - didn't like anyone else there though. I had to mention that cuz someone trashed him earlier and I don't agree. I don't EVER turn on AMC anymore however - I am so angry about their commercials and kinda choked lately because as I go through the schedules, they've actually had some good movies lately. For instance, Jesse James is coming up soon. Oh well, if I keep watching TCM it will be back on eventually. :-) THANK YOU TCM PROGRAMMER for being alive and well out there - and keeping us posted of 'items' - especially, as you say, of continuing to let us know that TCM is NOT going the way of AMC. Thank God! :-) If I had a say in overall programming - what would I do? - Hmmmm, not much different than is being done actually, you're doing a helluva job IMO. Sometimes there are movies repeated too often - you know that, it's been said enough - but even so, there are some essential movies that I feel DESERVE to be shown a lot and I never get upset to see them on often - I mean stuff like The Maltese Falcon, Casablanca etc. These movies might have been missed by someone (like how? lol) but anyway, it's true and I'd love the whole world to get to see them so if they are repeated often, I watch something else or a DVD - or watch them again. hehehe Sometimes though a movie will get played ONCE and not repeated for a long, long, time - and even though I know the reason for that, belonging to other companies, Fox, etc. - I'd still like to see them played a couple of times before they disappear. I'm thinking specifically of D.O.A. with Edmund O'Brien that I missed a few months back and it hasn't been back on yet - and I know there's been many others. That's my main issue. If anything happens that I miss The Third Man with Orson Welles in Dec, for instance, and it isn't shown again, I'll be livid. Although that would take a blizzard of the most major degree. LOL I've been waiting literally months for that one! As far as foreign films and silent movies, I'm a wash-out. Although I know more about classic movies than anyone I know, I'm a novice compared to some who come to these boards. Except for a very few exceptions, I can't warm up to these. However, I would be fine with there being a bit more shown to accommodate those who enjoy them. My total LOVE for movies are the 30s and 40s - with "some" 50's, but already there were actors by then that I didn't care for - and the 60s and 70s, IMO were 99% terrible. Things started going a bit better in the 80's and 90's so I'm fine with some of the better quality of these being shown, as have been on TCM. KEEP ON KEEPING ON TCM. We love ya!!! Scarlett aka katyscarlett
  7. "that's why today many men and women don't respect the body because women don't respect it themselves" hence my extreme dislike of Sharon Stone.
  8. Thanks for the info about Sanders, I'll be ordering that one from the library for certain. I read Lana's and quite enjoyed it. Also, "Me" by Kate Hepburn. If you have time to waste and want to read a real comedy, read Eddy Fisher's book (forget the name right now). It is totaly obnoxious and self-centered - a real HOOT!!!
  9. I often say "what we have here is a failure to communicate" from Cool Hand Luke. As someone already mentioned, I also use "Insanity doesn't run in my family, it practically gallops. I am a long-term member of AA and I've also used it a lot as "Alcoholism doesn't run in my family, it gallops".
  10. Mongo, thanks so much for the info about Gig Young. How terrible and tragic.
  11. Mongo - or anyone - there is an internet site that tells you where a particular movie will be playing in the future. Say I typed in 'Back to the Future' - it would give me all the TV channels, date and time, that will be showing BTTF in the next month. It does old TV shows, too. I've been trying hard to remember this site and can't. Could someone please help me? Thanks.
  12. I do agree with you - I also love a good debate and am glad we have so many different opinions on this thread - makes life interesting. :-) I love art history and have taken many art classes in University. I, too, believe that the naked human body is beautiful. Which kind of makes my point even clearer - how do we teach our kids the beauty in nudity if uncaring people are using it unnecessarily in smutty movies? Or using it for no apparent reason except to sell tickets. If the nudity is necessary for the story line - GOOD story line, I might add - then by all means bring it on - TASTEFULLY.
  13. Larry, I thrive on your 'stories' and really believe you should write a book, too. I'd sure buy a few copies. Great new stories since I've last been here. Loved the stories about Marion Davies and Agnes Moorehead - they were both such fabulous actresses. Have you ever seen the classic episode of The Twilight Zone that Agnes Moorehead does totally solo? It's great as would be expected. I love TZ and have all the episodes on tape - am now recording them on DVD. I loved reading that you don't really watch a lot of movies. That is a hoot considering you keep us "fed" with your stories. hehe The Pola Negri special - will it air somewhere we can see it? Cannes is rather far - yes, my humor is quite droll. *grin* I would love to see it! Todd Fisher - I'll try to keep a civil tongue but it'll be hard - it would be hard for any son of Eddie Fisher's to turn out decently IMO. Have you read Eddy Fisher's book? You mentioned someone else in this thread, who I'm not familiar with, and how they allegedly slept with everyone in Hollywood - well according to Fisher, so did he. Admittedly, he was "kinda" cute (only kinda) but get realistic Eddie. The only reason I didn't throw the book down half way through was because I began to look upon it as a 'comedy' rather than a 'bio' - or the 'tragedy' it truly is. *smile* I often wonder how Todd and Carrie get along if he's such an **** and she seems to really be a nice person, unless I've missed something. One of my favorite TCM "bits" is Carrie Fisher discussing Debbie Reynolds, when she says, at the end, that her mother had horrible taste in men except for the crush she had on Jack Lemmon. I love it because I think Eddie Fisher is likely a total jerk. Have a wonderful vacation, Larry, my son just got back from Switzerland with a stop-over in LA (not on your usual route lol) and he went to Chinatown. Movies are TOTALLY lost on him - he knows zero about today's movies, never mind classics - but I did have him take some 'footprint' photos. He didn't get the one I wanted the most through, which was Claude Rains. It's nice to know you - who knew so many - will be planting your feet among the stars. :-)
  14. Joel McCrea and I do like him but his voice irrates me something awful. (Yes, I do think I spelt that word wrong but the spellchecker won't give me any options lol)
  15. I know, I know this is the classics - but - - - Richard Gere. His whole face lights up when he smiles - it's what makes him so handsome. Assuming you think he's handsome - and I do.
  16. I just wanted to comment that as much as I love Pacino, I was really disappointed in City of Angels. Not at all what I expected. However, you may really like it - it just didn't do anything for me. :-)
  17. You could be talking about Sue Lyon in "Lolita". :-)
  18. This game is way too advanced for me so no guess - but I just wanted to say that y'all are VERY good at this! It's enjoyable to read these questions.
  19. I'm looking forward to Constance Bennett's day as well - I'm anxious to know her work better. Some of the days my TV was turned off - they didn't have the best Glenn Ford movies on his day, for instance. I noticed that some of you don't care for Glenn Ford, I quite like him but I don't think he starred in that many good movies. Give him a good role, ie: Ransom, Gilda and he's a good actor - but he didn't have that many really good movies IMO. It's Sophia Loren's day that I'm not looking forward to. I don't care for her AT ALL. Thank God it's only one day is the silver lining I find in that cloud. LOL
  20. Thanks bunches Mongo, I knew you'd know. :-) A lot of those movies aren't shown too often - but I have Dragon Seed, just haven't watched it yet. I really like The Boston Strangler and wish they would show it on TCM - it seems to me that they used to show it occasionally on AMC. And I've been waiting for years to see Joan of Arc, with Ingrid Bergman. The last time I saw that was about 25 years ago on a Canadian TV channel. I sure wish SOMEONE would show it, it is a really good movie. I guess I'll just have to been more attentive in looking for Hurd Hatfield - it's nice to know he was in more than Dorian Gray.
  21. Mongo, whatcha got on Hurd Hatfield? Did he ever play in anything besides 'The Picture of Dorian Gray'? I thought he was a pretty good actor in that. Thanks.
  22. Bggalazy - You said: "To Kat: I know your words were not intended as being a slur in your original post." Really?! Then what exactly is all the flaming on this thread about if you knew I didn't intend my remark as a slur? Was it just so every self-righteous, holier-than-though person who posts here could take a poke at me? Or is it because as one writer put it "Suppose it's a cheap way of getting attention & not having to pay for thearapy." You asked in your 'educational' post "is this a joke to you? Is that the you think?" Well, it is now! And I doubt if I'm the only one reading this thread that thinks it's a joke. I think it's HYSTERICALLY FUNNY! Oh, definitely not that I used a word that is racist and was informed of it - I'll never use that word again because I'm not at all racist. It's the way in which it was done that I find humorous. All the ranting and raving and name calling I've put up with - compared to one word that I used in ignorance, I've endured many names and insults from many people that were intended, but THAT is ok with everyone - and you knew all along that what I did was an unintended mistake. I find that VERY humorous indeed. I am NEVER coming back to this thread so you and your friends can go ahead and tear me to shreads for all I care - have fun - I've even given some pretty good directions to where I live, in case the hit men are sent out. LOL
  23. OK, Katy, let's stick our neck out again on another controversial topic, shall we? I thought Monty Clift was gay?? Was he not? This is the first I've ever heard about him being involved with a woman.
  24. Trout, thanks for the info about "Gabriel", now that I know enough to watch it I'll be looking for it to come on again. To the best of my knowledge "D.O.A." was only shown once this year - and I missed it, darn! I wish they would show it again SOON!
  25. Vallo, I agree that it's a good thing that Bogie got some of the roles Raft turned down - as much as I like Raft. I can't see anyone but Bogie in Casablanca for instance. I didn't know about Lancaster turning down Don Corleone (sp?) and I know many people will disagree with me but I sure wish he'd have taken it! He'd have been great IMO.
