  1. Hi loveoldmovies - you should really take the time to read this entire thread - it's a great read and Larry is a very interesting person. :-)
  2. I've always wanted to see Charles Laughton's Award winning portrayal of King Henry VIII but in all my searches have never turned it up. Has it ever been played on TCM? Is it a FOX movie and played on FOX? Is it still available? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.
  3. Thanks ML. I actually taped that movie to watch but haven't done so yet - I'll get right on that. Sounds like great fun! :-)
  4. This is a great thread - I'm glad it hasn't started any wars. hehe It's really interesting to read these opinions some of which I agree and some I don't understand - but that's the name of the game right?! :-) I just discussed this on another thread but I'm reposting it where it should have been in the first place, I guess. Cabaret - without a doubt. What a disappointment! Anything by Tennessee Williams. I just plain don't get it! Do not understand the "greatness" here at all. His movies leave me wanting oxygen.
  5. I am so glad you posted that about One, Two, Three. I had that question come up in Trivial Pursuit (Movie edition) and didn't think it sounded very good - now I will definitely look out for it. Great tip. Thx. Also thanks for the heads up about Shake Hands with the Devil, another one I wasn't gonna bother with - but I taped it last night and will watch it today. I learn so much from these boards and really appreciate it.
  6. God I feel stupid - what ARE you guys on - err, talking about? What makes me laugh? Arsenic and Old Lace NEVER fails.
  7. Read Tolkien many years ago - and loved LOTR. Haven't seen the movies yet - I'm afraid they won't be as good as the books, I guess, even though I hear they are. I'm mighty glad that my kids have discovered Tolkien, however, as well as the Star Wars films. :-) Proves Mom ain't quite so stupid after all. lol
  8. I thought Margaret O'Brien was much more natural than Shirley Temple and I find her enjoyable to watch. I also like Freddie Bartholemew. I really don't like many kid actors to be honest but those 2 I like. Jackie Cooper was good, too. Someone mentioned about Jane Withers awful life - please elaborate on that ?? Didn't like her much as a kid - but I did enjoy her as Josephine the plumber - nuts, I know. lol
  9. Thanks Larry - I have been meaning to read Mongo's thread but want to have the time to read it all - so will try soon. I haven't been to the Japanese Gardens recently either - haven't even thought about it but an excellent idea. It is beautiful - and serene and tranquil. :-)
  10. Reading the first few days, I was ready to be upset at all the repeats and IMO not such a good schedule - ya I know, you can't please everyone - but upon further reading, there's some good stuff in there. Thanks programmer. Some stuff needs updated, IMO, like enough of Splendor in the Grass, for instance - even though I like the movie - some movies are getting way too much air time. Also, in showing Herman's Hermits, you might as well do what one writer is forever harping on and show the Osmonds - NOT! But enough of the bad and on with the good stuff - again IMO. I like all the horror shows in October, also nice to see some Hitchcock that hasn't been played in awhile (now all you have to do is give us a little rest from the ones that you show EVERY month), and really nice to see so much Peter Lorre. Now find more - hehe. A good time should be had by all - - er, most. :-)
  11. Actually, never mind my daughter - I think Cagney is sexy!
  12. However much it is, I'm sure it's too much.
  13. Without reading this whole thread again - I think I may have mentioned that my daughter thinks Edward G. is very sexy - whatcha think? hehehehe
  14. Thanks so much for the answers given here. First, it's nice - very nice - to know that the TCM programers really give a darn about what we have to say. Thanks for that. :-) Also some other good explanations - I've really wondered a lot about this myself - did get a good explanation of Fox movies - but didn't really understand the whole ball of wax until reading this. Yes, it would be Leave Her to Heaven, a great FOX movie that I just watched this weekend. :-) At least I sure can't think of another one starring all three of these actors. I don't know about other libraries - I'm in Canada - but our local library has a wonderful selection of classic movies. They concentrate on classics so as not to interfere with the video stores. Right now, I'm bringing home FOX movies that I can't find any other way and watching or videotaping them. Cheesy, I know, but it'll have to do until some of these are released in DVD or I can record them myself. :-) Watched a lot of Gene Tierney this weekend. hehe
  15. I missed it again! And I knew it was on but thought I'd be home in time to catch it. Darnit! For everyone who constantly complains about the repeats - let me say, I'm really glad they do repeat stuff on TCM - I agree it shouldn't be every month - but sometimes I'm really grateful!
  16. I am SO glad you wrote in about this - I hadn't yet decided whether or not to tape it to watch the next day. I so much appreciate the feed-back. Now I will tape it for sure.
  17. Hi Jasmine! Welcome! I am fairly new too, and so glad I found these boards - now they can't shut me up. lol It's so wonderful to be able to talk about my obsession - classic movies - cuz other than my mother, there is no one around here to talk to about them. :-) Interesting question about glasses - very interesting, IMO. Maybe the reason they never had anyone wearing glasses is cuz a lot of people are shallow - like me hehe. I have never in my life been 'attracted' to anyone wearing glasses. Not saying I never dated anyone who wore them - but I've never initially found anyone sexually appealing who wore glasses. And we all know that physical appeal is one thing that sells movies. Just my opinion.
  18. Yeah, I know this is really a stretch - but I noticed someone else asked about your favorite Bogart movie so if it can be done with Bogie - - - - lol I have been having a ball today - have waited for today since the schedule was posted for August! Love Cagney and everything he touched. Love all the "usuals" - Angels with Dirty Faces (always cry at the end), White Heat, Yankee Doodle Dandy etc. - and I always figure one of those "has to" be my favorite - but you know, every time I see Each Dawn I Die, I just know that it really IS my favorite. Could it be because I truly love George Raft as well? I think that has something to do with it - but isn't the entire reason. I also really love The Strawberry Blonde - one of the best movies ever, IMO.
  19. I wish y'all good luck in trying to get autographs. I would try to get a few, too, but I know that I am a very compulsive person and I'd be at E-Bay all the time buying items - so it's just easier not to start. lol I used to work for a country music magazine and have MANY autographs that mean a lot to me so I sure hope you get what you're after. :-) The only person whose autograph I'd love to get who is still alive and kicking - thank God - is Stephen King. That would mean the world to me. :-) Since this is a movie site I will say that I don't watch many of his movies - they are rarely as good as his books - but I read him ALL the time. :-)
  20. Gotta agree with hershon2000 who said Peter Lorre. I saddens me that we don't see much more of his work than we do. He had tons of movies.
  21. Thanks so much everyone for all the info. Yes, maybe I'd be better off renting or buying what I like and not getting the movie channel. :-)
  22. One of my favorites. Love 'The Strawberry Blonde' and sure wish they would play it soon. Rita, Olivia, Jack Carson and Cagney. Lots of fun.
  23. Fantastic idea! I think the programmers keep an eye on this message board so I wouldn't be surprised if you've already "proposed" it. :-)
  24. Some great ones already mentioned. One I would LOVE to see again is Lost Horizon.
