I'm not surprised AMC is doing an Oscar-fest - Many channels do the same thing in February - so that isn't really a "rip-off" in my mind.
But The Sundance Channel did program some event a few years back and called it "31 Days of..." (I don't remember what the subject was though. It could have been "31 Days Of Documentaries" or "31 Days of Sundance Festival FIlms". I really don't remember.) And _that_ struck me as a rip-off of TCM's title and concept.
And does no one here have any "love" for AMC's former host Nick Clooney? I was surprised no one here even brought up his recent appearance on the new Piers Morgan Show when he appeared along side his son George. I was hoping someone would watch it and offer up a report on the conversation.

What he is getting at is not alternative versions of TCM but a separate East Coast and West Coast satellite feed of TCM from Atlanta.
About five years ago, TCM began the process to provide a West Coast feed so that "Prime TIme" programming was shown at the same hour as the East Coast feeds. (i.e. - all Robert Osborne introduced films would also start at 8pm on the West Coast.) But the plan was shelved shortly before it was to be implemented. No explanation for was given for abandoning the change.
But "mirrored" satellite feeds (same programming at 8pm) are really only important for commercial channels that are selling ads on their programming. With no advertisers able to buy time on specific TCM programs, the need for two feeds of TCM is negligible. And the additional cost of providing a second feed (a second server with the programming, a second satellite dish to beam the signal and space on a satelite circling the globe) brings no financial benefit to the channel. The money could be better spent in other areas - especially when TCM had to begin leasing _all_ the films for the channel.

*"I believe the film you are referring to is the Richard Quine directed drama, "Full of Life." It was a nice little film about a couple dealing with childbirth. Judy costarred with Ricahrd Conte as her husband and a fine supporting performance by Salvatore Baccaloni as the father-in-law."* - MovieProfessor
"Yes, that's it. Hopefully they'll bring it up from the salt mines for an airing some year soon..." - JohnnyGeetar
*Full Of Life* is showing on TCM Friday, March 11th.

*"How would you know this?"*
Simple deduction leads me to believe it is so.
There was an offensive message posted yesterday. I replied to it. ValentineXavier replied to it. Helenbaby replied to it. There may be others that replied also.
What is missing today? The offending post and all those replies. That's what I have observed. And this is why I posted to others that seemed upset that their messages were missing even though none of the replies were offending or in vioaltion of any conduct - that I could see.
I have observed this pattern for a long time.

To those curious about deleted posts over night -
I've seen this happen before.
It appears that a particular post was removed. Undertaking that act of "clean-up" also included removing all posts that were in reply to the offending message or posts that quoted parts of the offending message. The missing replies were not necessarily objectionable- they were only "collateral damage." And the posters whose posts went missing are likely not in any jeopardy of being reprimanded.

Well, they are young. Younger than Robert Osborne, that is.

'lzcutter' is right. TCM had the rights to the Disney Live-Action films from the 50s-70s for the past three or four years. TCM featured them quite often during that time. But I think the lease finally ran out last month. (Hence, the marathon TCM presented just after Christmas. A "last hurrah" of sorts, if you will.)
I believe the television rights now belong to the Hallmark Channel. Tonight the Hallmark Channel is showing *Swiss Family Robinson* and *The Parent Trap* (Haley Mills version.)

*"People, if we don't start fighting this now, these new programing execs at TCM with their "fresh" ideas and their need to express themselves are going to keep slipping more and more of these "new classics" into the TCM schedule, until all we're left with is another Cinemax, or Hallmark channel or some such."*
Psst. Haven't you heard? Revolutions start on Facebook or Twitter nowadays and not on coporate Message Boards.

That's OK. The women in the department will be happy to sit in for them.

*"I am trying to determine if the content of 31 Days of Oscar is a departure from what TCM allows to be shown during the rest of the year."* - voranis
I don't know 'voranis.' If TCM had a legitimate reason to show *The Lord Of The Rings* this September, I am sure they could do it. But, typically, they don't show such popular, contemporary films save for Oscar Month.
Your interest goes beyond what I am capable of answering for you or comfortable with discussing. I've given you my educated guesses on how TCM approaches its programming gleaned from observing the traditions apparent to this long-time viewer and as one with past access to persons at TCM. All I could say beyond what I have said already would only be unfounded hypotheses.

*"In other words, does TCM consider itself to be showing some non-classics during 31 Days of Oscar, or does it consider Lord of the Rings: Return of the King a classic?"*
*"Liz, I am particularly interested in your answer, as well as Kyle's, since you seem to have a lot of inside info about the network."* - voranis
I don't think TCM gives much thought to the definition of term "classic" in determining the films that the network shows.
But as it relates to *The Lord Of The Rings*, the only reason it is on the network this month is because it is "31 Days Of Oscar." I don't think it will be shown again during the year. (The same situation applied to *Gladiator*, *Titanic*, *Kundun* and *Seven* --during-- from past "31 Days..." events.) But I believe that TCM considers any film nominated for an Oscar worthy of the term "classic."
Kyle In Hollywood
(And I wish TCM would show *Kundun* once again.)

Johnny Depp rides into the unknown as Tonto in remake of The Lone Ranger

I can't believe someone wants to "try again" with the character. I mean, look what it did for Klinton Pilsbury. (Of course, the lawsuit against Clayton Moore by the film producers didn't help the film any either.)
I think teenage "fanboys" have better chance of knowing who/what The Lone Ranger is than who/what Don Quixote is. And that is why the film is being made rather than a new version of Cervantes. (I weep for this nation's future.)
One day, I hope TCM will get their hands on G. W. Pabst's *Don Quixote*. I've seen an extended clip was quite impressed. It looks amazing.
