  1. Helenbaby is right. AMC and TCM shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence. AMC long ago abandoned its "roots" and this EMMY win will certainly push the channel to focus even less on films and pursue additional series ideas. (Wonder how many EMMY voters actually watched the show on the channel and not just on DVD?) But for the Turner Networks, such programming endeavors will continue to be the focus of TNT and TBS while TCM will continue to be the channel for movie-lovers. And the loyalty of TCM viewers will still be the envy of the cable industry. (It was too bad "Role Model: Gene Wilder" wasn't nominated for an EMMY though.) Kyle (would have written in "Ken Burns' The War") In Hollywood ------------------ "Ooohh, I had a Belgian Rabbit and I named him "Little Flair". He was very introspective. What you'd call an ingrown hare." *F. McGee*
  2. What a bunch of shirkers of one's civic responsiblity. If "paid jury duty" is part of one's employee benefits, one has no "real" excuse for "getting out" of jury duty. And definitely no right to criticize the state of the judicial system. Just sayin' ... Kyle In Hollywood -------------------------- "Ooohh, I had a Belgian Rabbit and I named him "Little Flair". He was very introspective. What you'd call an ingrown hare." *F. McGee*
  3. Hello 'mavfan4life' - During TCM's annual salute to the Telluride Festival, they showcase films that have a relationship to _any_ past honorees or attendees at the Festival. Sometimes the relationship TCM highlights is unique like this year's showing of *Steamboat Bill, Jr.* to salute the "Alloy Orchestra" which provided a new score to that film and who have performed live accompaniament at Telluride. In the case of *The Wedding Night*, I think the purpose of showing the film on TCM was to acknowledge Telluride's past salute to the director King Vidor. Here's TCM's webarticle on this year's festival and the programming TCM presented on Labor Day - http://www.tcm.com/thismonth/article/?cid=143153 but it doesn't give a definitive answer to your question. Kyle In Hollywood -------------------------- "Ooohh, I had a Belgian Rabbit and I named him "Little Flair". He was very introspective. What you'd call an ingrown hare." *F. McGee*
  4. *"...but that poster is a real standout."* - FrankGrimes *"...this is amazing!"* - Minya I think Mlle. Minya can put it up in her kitchen. And Mr. Grimes should post it on his basement bedroom door. Kyle In Hollywood -------------------------- "Ooohh, I had a Belgian Rabbit and I named him "Little Flair". He was very introspective. What you'd call an ingrown hare." *F. McGee*
  5. Hello Aaron62 - You probably won't be able to find US Football on the Internet. The television channels pay alot of money to secure exclusive rights to broadcast the games on television. But you should be able to find many news programs online. The best place to look would be the websites of news or television organisations. (PBS / NBC / ABC / MSNBC / FOX, etc) and see which of their news programs are made available for viewing online. Start here and see what video you can access from the NewsHour on PBS - http://www.pbs.org/newshour/ You'll have to do the same for every network news organization. Also, if you have a "cable modem" for your computer from a cable television service provider, it is possible you could use your PC as your television. But it would have to be a PC specifically designed to act as a television. Or maybe there is a software program that will allow the PC to function in that manner. I don't know much about such applications but maybe some others here know more. Did you see *Topper* through the TCM Media Room? If so, that's great. I didn't know that the film was available in there in its entirety. But full-length films are a rarity in the TCM Media Room. But maybe someday soon that will change. Kyle In Hollywood -------------------------- "Ooohh, I had a Belgian Rabbit and I named him "Little Flair". He was very introspective. What you'd call an ingrown hare." *F. McGee*
  6. *"(As a sidenote: Tap, tap, tap, Kyle and Lynn.)"* - filmlover What? Are you auditioning to be the third Nicholas Brother? Or do you need a manicure? Kyle In Hollywood -------------------------- "Ooohh, I had a Belgian Rabbit and I named him "Little Flair". He was very introspective. What you'd call an ingrown hare." *F. McGee*
  7. *"Great poster. Is that Hungarian?"* - FilmFatale I unfortunately don't know. But typically, "slavic" posters of this type come from either Poland or the former Czechoslovakia. Kyle In Hollywood -------------------------- "Ooohh, I had a Belgian Rabbit and I named him "Little Flair". He was very introspective. What you'd call an ingrown hare." *F. McGee*
  8. Saturday, September 20^th^ *Witness For The Prosecution* One of The Essentials tonight on TCM
  9. *"Amazing Colors"* - joefilmone *"Very nice artwork!"* - visualfeast I agree - but I was torn between the "yellow" 1-Sheet and the "blue" window card. Source: IMPA (Cheer up Mlle Minya.)
  10. *"Unemployed actors I get, but lawyers?? You're ummm, not into anything shady are you?"* - Mlle. Minya No. I'm not a client of any of them. But it seems the lawyers in the neighborhood find me a popular person to join for lunch. (And they are some pretty good lawyers too. Very powerful. Like national news powerful.) *"Are you a Los Angeles native? (this is unrelated to the previous question)"* And again, No. But I've been here nearly 20 years. kjk
  11. *"I found out today that the red dress is in fact NOT forthcoming."* - Mlle Minya I'm _truly_ sorry to hear that. I wish I knew some fashion folks in LA that could make you an original. But all I know are lawyers - and unemployed actors. If it helps any, I will tell you that tomorrow is "fire-pit" Friday. Kyle In Hollywood -------------------------- "Ooohh, I had a little pony and his name was Chief. But now he's on the menu as barbecued beef." *F. McGee*
  12. MattHelm - God, how I've missed you. Boris Karloff "with King-Fu Grip" "Monogrammed Junglewear" "It's Up To Your Knees Out There!" Just wonderful! I like your choosing to highlight Gershwin's Birthday and Peter Finch's as well. And thanks for the salute to F. Scott Fitzgerald. (During the Republican Convention in St. Paul, there were many television shots of a statue in a park near City Hall and I've often wondered if viewers knew who it was.) And how old can one be to "get in free"? 'Cause I definitely want to be a kid again. Well done, MattHelm. You've been away too long but you definitely haven't lost your touch. Kyle In Hollywood -------------------------- "Ooohh, I had a little pony and his name was Chief. But now he's on the menu as barbecued beef." *F. McGee*
  13. > {quote:title=skimpole wrote:}{quote} > If TCM can only play movies that it has the rights to broadcast, why is it that "The Great Escape" is always on both TCM and AMC? Ever since AMC added commercials, in the world of "television rights" TCM and AMC are two different types of channels. AMC is now is just like any other _commercial_ channel - like TNT or TBS. And that is a different "market" than non-commercial channels. Because TCM does not show commercials (or have commercial interruptions), it "competes" with channels such as the Encore Group, HBO and Sundance. Right now, *To Kill A Mockingbird* is being shown on an Encore channel. I don't believe that TCM could obtain the rights to show that film while Encore is showing the film. (Same was true of the Hitchcock films a year ago. They weren't available to TCM while they were being shown on the Encore channels.) So, because AMC shows commercials and TCM doesn't, a film can be leased to both channels during the same week/month/year. Kyle In Hollywood ------------------------- "Ooohh, I had a little pony and his name was Chief. But now he's on the menu as barbecued beef." *F. McGee*
  14. How's my favorite posi-rocker? I can't tell ya how happy it makes me to see you in here today. *King Of The Underworld* is a Bogart film you haven't seen? I didn't think there were such things as a Bogart film KPR hasn't seen. I am glad to hear your father is going to record it for you. In the meantime, I can offer you this - (Click Through for Larger Image) And did I tell ya - thanks to you - I did get "the box"? I love it. (I needed a coffee table anyway.) I'll look for you soon. Kyle In Hollywood -------------------------- "Ooohh, I had a little pony and his name was Chief. But now he's on the menu as barbecued beef." *F. McGee*
  15. Favorite part of that front page - h5. Stocks Skid, Dow down 12 Ah, for the "good old days". Kyle In Hollywood -------------------------- "Ooohh, I had a little pony and his name was Chief. But now he's on the menu as barbecued beef." *F. McGee*
  16. *"I have seen on docu/commentaries about "The Dick Van Dyke Show" (my absolute favorite show in the universe!) and he is great! Just really fun to watch and listen too."* - ILRM In a Challenge Schedule many editions ago, I had "Robert Petrie, Head Writer of The Alan Brady Show" as a Guest Programmer. I scheduled four films that are referenced on episodes of "The Dick Van Dyke Show". If you're interested, see "Page 3" here - http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/message.jspa?messageID=7847611#7847611 Kyle In Hollywood -------------------------- "Ooohh, I had a little pony and his name was Chief. But now he's on the menu as barbecued beef." *F. McGee*
  17. Hi 'dianabat' - Have a gander at this TCM article from March 2005. http://www.tcm.com/thismonth/article?cid=90482 Kyle In Hollywood -------------------------- "Ooohh, I had a little pony and his name was Chief. But now he's on the menu as barbecued beef." *F. McGee*
  18. *"we're working on it."* - 'tcmprogrammr' Have we told you lately that you're amazing? Thanks for making the time to acknowledge this inquiry. Kyle In Hollywood -------------------------- "Ooohh, I had a little pony and his name was Chief. But now he's on the menu as barbecued beef." *F. McGee*
  19. *"I loathe and despise most of the presidential portrayals of the past two decades, from Kevin Kline to James (ugh) Cromwell. Oh, yeah, and Michael Douglas too. Phooey Phonies."* - CRS Though this is a portrayal of an actual President, I think the nadir of the contemporary "Commanders In Chief" is Jon Voight in *Pearl Harbor*. _That_ makes the others palatable in comparison. I don't know if any "fictional" Presidents ever made an impression on me. Fonda in *Young Mr. Lincoln* ( I know, he was only running for Congress at the end) is probably _my_ favorite. Kyle In Hollywood -------------------------- "Ooohh, I had a little pony and his name was Chief. But now he's on the menu as barbecued beef." *F. McGee*
  20. There's nothing that I look forward to more than reading a sugarpuss "Challenge Schedule" - especially when I wasn't expecting to see one. I knew I was in for a treat. I heartily approve your Television Anthology Night with both *Marty* and *Requiem...* - two films I admire and whose "originals" I've always been curious to see. (But I don't think I'll like Steiger or Palance better than Borgnine or Quinn.) I'm kicking myself for not thinking of *Time Bandits* for my still-to-be-seen Time Travel evening. What a great selection. Though I am wondering about this dichotomy towards "little people". *Time Bandits* = good. *Under The Rainbow* = bad. (And *Under The Rainbow* is defintely "bad".) And big cheer for digging out some Henry Morgan films. He was always the best part of "I've Got A Secret" - and the only guy on the show without a creepy "butch" crew cut. (Childhood trauma of my own.) Plus I think he was completely exhasperated by Betsy Palmer - as was I. I'd like to have a night of Carl Reiner films on TCM co-hosted with Mr. Reiner. Maybe with him and his son. (Now _there's_ an idea for a TCM series. Carl & Rob Reiner. Garry and Penny Marshall. Gena Rowlands and Nick Cassavettes. So Mr. Brown, if additional "Under The Influence" episodes don't work out...) Thanks for taking part again. And thanks for coming around again. I've missed Miss O'Shea. I should probably quote Richard "ill" but won't be that sappy. Kyle In Hollywood -------------------------- "Ooohh, I had a little pony and his name was Chief. But now he's on the menu as barbecued beef." *F. McGee*
  21. ILRM - As I wrote in a different thread, I am stunned you chose someone other than Ray Milland as your "SOTM". I was really looking forward to seeing what I expected to be your favorite Milland movies. So your choice of Jean Arthur was an unexpected and very pleasant surprise. You've put together a wonderful week of TCM Programming and included some great films too. Bravo for scheduling *Letter From An Unknown Woman* as your Essentials selection. What an inspired choice. I completely understand your desire for a "new" little brother - who we all had the "pleasure" to meet in here a few weeks ago. Plus, between your "Guest Programmer" selections and the films lying around your living room, I think alot of people would enjoy hanging out at your house and watching a movie with you. You've done good, ILRM. And that you don't even have TCM on your television makes even more spectacular. Kyle In Hollywood -------------------------- "Ooohh, I had a little pony and his name was Chief. But now he's on the menu as barbecued beef." *F. McGee*
