  1. Wednesday, September 17^th^ Souce: IMPA To the best of my ability, this is what I've discerned the text beneath the photo to read - "In the memory of many, few events have shocked the world as those four days in November. Here with stories never presented before is a complete Motion Picture chronicle of that incredible time in Dallas. Here is the minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day story with every detail examined, every question answered." "American Politics In The Movies" - including *Four Days In November* - tonight on TCM.
  2. *"I love this one. It's Kyle's "One-A-Day Plus Iron"* - Gregory1965 Now _that_ made me laugh. kjk
  3. *"I programmed (Jean Arthur) as star of the month on my Programming Challenge Schedule because I thought she had never been used!!!!"* - ILRM Well, knock me over with a feather. I was all set to see a night devoted to "SOTM Ray Milland" on your schedule. Good for you for not being so predictable! And yes, the film definitely deserves an evening showing soon. Kyle In Hollywood -------------------------- "Ooohh, I had a little pony and his name was Chief. But now he's on the menu as barbecued beef." *F. McGee*
  4. *"Is there anybody else that likes this film?"* - ILRM I like the movie alot. And I am thrilled that a teen-ager in 2008 enjoys the film too. (Just don't be offering to practice the "umlaut" with strangers, ok?) I enjoy all the sly references to other films. etc. Lately, I've been thinking that I wouldn't put it past Wilder and and the screenwriter to have put the "cuckoo clock" into the film as a reference to *The Third Man*. And why do Russian Kommisars always travel in threes? (see also *Ninotchka* ) Kyle In Hollywood -------------------------- "Ooohh, I had a little pony and his name was Chief. But now he's on the menu as barbecued beef." *F. McGee*
  5. *"I just know that everyone is dying to hear what I have to say."* - sugarpuss Well, you certainly have some "splainin'" to do, missy. (And by "missy", I do mean you've been missed.) Kyle In Hollywood -------------------------- "Ooohh, I had a little pony and his name was Chief. But now he's on the menu as barbecued beef." *F. McGee*
  6. *"Tab Hunter/Farley Granger/Richard Chamberlain (um, grouped together for obvious reasons)"* - ChipHeartsMovies What, did they ALL live in Europe? I mean they didn't each play priests, did they? (But I guess you could say they do have "catholic" tastes.) Kyle In Hollywood -------------------------- "Ooohh, I had a little pony and his name was Chief. But now he's on the menu as barbecued beef." *F. McGee*
  7. After today, it is a shame that TCM didn't schedule the Frank Capra film *American Madness* to follow *Gabriel Over The White House* tomorrow. *American Madness* - "Nearly all of *American Madness,* directed by Frank Capra in 1932, occurs in a single location: the Union National Bank, run by president Tom Dixon (Walter Huston), who hasn't let Depression-era worries distract him from the kinder, gentler capitalism he believes in. His faith in the power of positive banking strikes his anxiety-prone board of directors as sheer insanity—after all, bankruptcy and insolvency are running roughshod over the United States economy. But there's no stopping Tom, who's "not interested in profits" and thinks of depositors as "friends" rather than customers. Where the directors see dollar signs, Tom sees decent citizens who could "pull this country out of the doldrums" if financial leaders would realize that "character" is the only thing they can really bank on." http://www.tcm.com/thismonth/article/?cid=150144 (The rest of the article at the link above.) Kyle In Hollywood -------------------------- "Ooohh, I had a little pony and his name was Chief. But now he's on the menu as barbecued beef." *F. McGee*
  8. *"Don't pay him any mind, Kyle. He's just trying to rile you up."* - Mlle. Minya I can't afford to pay FrankGrimes anything. Besides, I think he owes me for some past favoritism anyway. Either way, I was going to post *The King And I* tomorrow but I'll post something else instead - just to appease the "Prince of Pennsylvania". And I think you might like it too. Kyle (Gotta raise some cash to meet Al Franken next week) In Hollywood -------------------------- "Ooohh, I had a little pony and his name was Chief. But now he's on the menu as barbecued beef." *F. McGee*
  9. *"These Challenges are one of the main reasons I returned."* - ydobon I thought it was due to my sterling personality. Harumph! And I was waiting for the Joan McCracken day on your schedule. Wha-happened? Seriously, another schedule down and it's another great one. Like everyone before me has said, the "predatory pronouns" is real winner. As is "Wally & Marge" day. I think *Mary Poppins* on a Sunday night is great programming. (It's too bad TCM couldn't get their hands on that one for the December Disney Fest.) And once again, just like after 'movieman1957' posted his schedule, I am facing the prospect of tearing up yet another idea for my schedule because it is found in your week. I am holding off for now in case inspiration doesn't hit me between now and the end of the month. But this is getting ridiculous! Well done, my friend. And, about the lack of an "article" for *100 Men and a Girl* in 2006. Not all films previously shown on TCM necessarily have a corresponding "article" in the Website Archives. For the Deanna Durbin film, it premiered during "31 Days Of Oscar" of 2006. And "31 Days..." is one of those occasions that get a completely separate website devoted to the event. The info for such sites doesn't become automatically become part of the regular website archives. (Same for this year's "SUTS" and the special website created for that event.) But I just did a website search for "Deanna Durbin" and the first article listed in the results is for *One Hundred Men and a Girl*. http://www.tcm.com/thismonth/article?cid=115788 Kyle In Hollywood -------------------------- "Ooohh, I had a little pony and his name was Chief. But now he's on the menu as barbecued beef." *F. McGee*
  10. Hello 'Notorious78' - One of the best ways to share your idea is to do just what you did and make your suggestion in these Forums. The persons responsible for the programming (both of films and of original productions) read these Forums. So your thread will catch their eye. If you wish to take a more direct route, you can write to TCM through a link found at the TCM Support page - http://support.tcm.com/ And I think both of your suggestions for Private Screenings episodes are fantastic. Kyle In Hollywood -------------------------- "Ooohh, I had a little pony and his name was Chief. But now he's on the menu as barbecued beef." *F. McGee*
  11. 'pancakes_barbara' - Congratulations on finishing another Programming Challenge schedule. You've done well, yet again. I like all the birthday salutes but am partial to the grouping of "So This Is..." and "One Hour With You". (Took me awhile to figure that one out.) I like that kind of thinking. And you selected a great one for your "Essential." (Did you catch Charles Busch during his stint as Guest Programmer last November?) You've got the knack for this. Nice job all around. Kyle In Hollywood -------------------------- "Ooohh, I had a little pony and his name was Chief. But now he's on the menu as barbecued beef." *F. McGee*
  12. 'ChipHeartsMovies' - What a great surprise that you popped in with a Challenge Schedule. Your absence lately has been sadly noted among many of us. I hope the working world continues to have a loose grip on you so you can continue to pop in. But your time away hasn't lessened your ability to put up a great schedule in a Programming Challenge. I think the spotlighting of the "twilight years" of classic stars is wonderful. (I saw *A Matter Of Time* years ago and remember liking it. Would like to see it again to see if I still feel that way.) Any reason to show *Rebecca* and *The Heiress* back-to-back is fine with me. And let me concur that putting all those "Apes" - the "Cornelius" kind and the "Curly" kind - was a great solution to the Time Travel requirement. Well Done. Kyle In Hollywood -------------------------- "Ooohh, I had a little pony and his name was Chief. But now he's on the menu as barbecued beef." *F. McGee* Message was edited by: hlywdkjk because I "pooped" when I meant to "pop"
  13. Kubrickbuff - Congratulations on getting another schedule completed. You did a wonderful job. You keep getting better and better with every one of these in which you participate. (I hope it keeps getting easier too.) The "Welcome To Hollywood" line-up is great - as are the mornings devoted to "Blackmail" and "Deception". And thanks for debuting (albeit only a fantasy debut) *Empire Of The Sun*. You should be very proud. I would be. Kyle In Hollywood -------------------------- "Ooohh, I had a little pony and his name was Chief. But now he's on the menu as barbecued beef." *F. McGee*
  14. Just took a look around the trivia Forums and the problem seems to have resolved itself. Am I right or are there still issues? Kyle In Hollywood -------------------------- "Ooohh, I had a little pony and his name was Chief. But now he's on the menu as barbecued beef." *F. McGee*
  15. Good Morning 'Katesbiggestfan' - Welcome to TCM City. Happy that you have made way here. You'll find many folks around these Forums that share your enthusiasm for Katharine Hepburn - and for Classic Movies. Plus, there are a number of members who are around your age and are all very friendly. Have fun! Kyle In Hollywood -------------------------- "Oohh, I bought a goat and his name was Jack. But he got homesick so I had to give him ba-a-a-ack" *F. McGee*
  16. *"Uh-oh. The Christmas queens are gonna get their panties in a twist just like last year!"* - PrinceSaliano Why? Because there aren't "enough" Holiday Movies? Or because certain titles are missing? Personally, I found it amusing that TCM is going to "celebrate" Hanukkah this year. Kyle In Hollywood -------------------------- "Ooohh, I had a little pony and his name was Chief. But now he's on the menu as barbecued beef." *F. McGee*
  17. *"But I'm a kind gentleman. Or is it a kind of gentleman?"* - FrankGrimes I'd just say "You're A Man" and leave it at that. Kyle In Hollywood -------------------------- "Oohh, I bought a goat and his name was Jack. But he got homesick so I had to give him ba-a-a-ack" *F. McGee*
  18. *"I'm also glad you don't have to take a commuter train to get to where you live."* - Mlle. Minya Very true tonight. I _do_ ride "the train" - but it is the subway. There's no chance of a head-on crash with a freight train. With 20 dead, I am surprised the accident hasn't pushed the "rainstorm" off the cable news shows - at least for a few minutes. Kyle In Hollywood -------------------------- "Oohh, I bought a goat and his name was Jack. But he got homesick so I had to give him ba-a-a-ack" *F.McGee.*
  19. *"Ahhh, how you spoil me!"* - Mlle. Minya Well, not all men like are FrankGrimes. Some of us actually _are_ gentlemen. Kyle In Hollywood -------------------------- "Oohh, I bought a goat and his name was Jack. But he got homesick so I had to give him ba-a-a-ack" *F.McGee.*
  20. Hey there, 'movieman1957' - Nicely done, my friend. You've done yourself proud once again. And your choices of theme titles is getting quite --punny-- funny too. "El Sid" made me smile - as did "Just Deserts" But your Saturday Afternoon has put me back in the hole by a whole day. I just ripped up this - _"...But What I Really Want To Do Is Direct"_ (Actors Pulling Director's Duties) *Charlie Bubbles* - Albert Finney Dir *The Buccaneer* - Anthony Quinn Dir *The Happy Road* - Gene Kelly Dir *A Man Alone* - Ray Milland Dir *Dr. Faustus* - Richard Burton Dir *The Alamo* - John Wayne Dir (which you used somewhere else!) Congratulations on doing such a great job. Kyle In Hollywood -------------------------- "Oohh, I bought a goat and his name was Jack. But he got homesick so I had to give him ba-a-a-ack" *F.McGee.*
  21. *"Arg! I wanted to be first!"* - ydobon Huh????? Alright, who is this "person" writing? You're definitely not the man I once knew. A new "nick" and everything changes. It used to be like pulling teeth to motivate you to finish one of these. Kyle In Hollywood -------------------------- "Oohh, I bought a goat and his name was Jack. But he got homesick so I had to give him ba-a-a-ack" *F.McGee.*
