  1. *"You're evil! (A) messed up "Young and Innocent" poster?" - FrankGrimes Hey. Someone had to put this thread back on the tracks. It was all too "Rodney King" lately. Though I might have a pristine image around here if I look hard enough. But I have already posted *Suspicion* this month. And then there was that *Postman* poster over the weekend you seemed to enjoy so (too?) much. I just couldn't put up another of Frank's faves. As the original author of this thread, I do feel some sort of responsiblity to keeping it "on topic". And just so you know, if *Young And Innocent* appears in that other thread, it's there for 'tobitz'. On second thought, maybe I'll just email it to him. Kyle (wonder if 'tobitz' likes *Secret Beyond The Door* ?) In Hollywood Message was edited by: hlywdkjk
  2. *"Gracious! You can't say that here... or can you?"* - MissMusical That (along with "obnoxious and disliked") is a memorable quote from *1776* . I apologise if it was a bit indelicate. It was meant to elicit a smile from 'filmlover'. Kyle (being "illicit" too) In Hollywood
  3. *"As a matter of interest, what is your opinion of the TCM forum administrators rather laid-back approach to administration."* - Metry Road Do you mean in regards to this thread or the Forums in general? We both have seen much more outrageous behavior in these Forums than what has been written in this thread. There's no crude remarks, nasty name calling, threatening or intimidating statements or old-fashioned meanness. No one is being "followed" around the forums raising havoc in any thread another member may post in. All in all, I think this discussion has been more civil than not. Or have I not been reading closely? That two (or more) members are butting heads over "territory" and "style points" is rather innocuous. "Irritating behavior" doesn't seem to rise to the level of taking action by WebAdmin - and I have to say that I agree. Adults should be able to be tolerant of one another in a diverse public forum. And adults should be able to take criticism and advice from their peers without feeling attacked. I don't think WebAdmin ever agreed to babysit these Forums nor do I think they are planning on taking up that role anytime soon. This community should be strong enough - and secure enough - to not need such intervention. I think it is. So it surprised me to think that some folks thought action was lacking on the part of WebAdmin. But what would anyone expect them to do that members can't already do for themselves? There are tools available in these Forums to allow members to act as their own personal moderator - which is a passive method of handling irritating behavior. Or one can be an active self-moderator and use one's discretion to selectively avoid the black holes that bother some. Moderation can be performed by using the software here or your mental abilities there where you are. Or use a combination of the two. But no one person nor any one thing can demand members to be considerate of one another. One can only ask that of each of us. But I am embarassed that it would need to be stated at all. 4. *"I am afraid I am the John Adams of the board."* - filmlover You are not obnoxious and disliked. Kyle (off to find the **** and the drinking) In Hollywood
  5. cmvgor - I had the same thing happen to me early today also. But about five minutes after posting, the message was finally there and the thread was at the top of the thread list as normal. Don't know what is causing it. It was odd that the "last post" column showed the "correct" info but the thread wasn't at the top of the list and the message wasn't there after "posting". Hopefully it isn't sign of another "outage" ahead. Kyle In Hollywood
  6. *"Re: Another New 'Frontier?'"* - mrsl And here I thought this was going to be a Star Trek thread. For me, it was kinda backwards as I learned about some of the classic film stars from their stints on Sixties and Seventies television. I would see older actors and actresses on television series and later learn that they had big careers in film years before. People like - Joan Blondell Ms. Barbara Stanwyck Ann Sothern Burgess Meredith Eve Arden Spring Byington Yvonne deCarlo Otto Preminger Those are just some of the names that come quickly. But even before my time, there were "stars" that seemed to run to television when they had the chance. Bob Cummings. Jane Wyman. Robert Young. Even I heard about Loretta Young entering her show through a door in a remarkable gown each week. And Ann Blythe was selling Hostess cakes (I think). But I never did figure out who the heck Rula Lenska was and why she was selling (I think) cosmetics. Kyle In Hollywood
  7. *"How far back does the function works anyway?"* - hamradio Well, you could edit one of your first messages if you wanted. http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=8014925 I believe a member could edit any message they wrote - if they can find it. Searching the Forum for past threads and messages isn't easy. Kyle In Hollywood
  8. *"Sounds like the TCM Administrator is "cleaning house"."* No. That's not it. When WebAdmin deletes messages it has no affect on the thread in the thread list hierarchy. And the entire post disappears - not just the text in the message. There is / was a member who was scrubbing some of his/her comments from long dormant threads by replacing their posts with a "period". Kyle In Hollywood
  9. *"Like Mary Tyler Moore, women like spunk!"* - casablancalover "I hate spunk." - Lou (aka "Mister") Grant, News Director WJM Television (And I miss Donaldson's on the mall too.) Kyle In Hollywood

  11. Tuesday, July 15^th^ *Take A Letter, Darling* (Not on the TCM schedule but one of the few Rosalind Russell posters on my hard drive.)
  12. *"It can't all be about Mr. Grimes, despite the thread name. His head is way too big already."* - Mlle. Minya In that case, like the title says, let's resort to a little more torture. To think I almost posted the full version of this instead of The Marx Brothers. Kyle In Hollywood
  13. *"Are you appearing in any comedy clubs this weekend?"* - ydobon I have been approached to fill-in for Michael Richards. And Bernie Mac. But I think I'll just hang around here instead. Kyle In Hollywood
  14. *"And the ensuing discussion was just as memorable at the time."* - movielover1957 Yes it was...in the way that one's first root canal is memorable. Kyle In Hollywood
  15. OK. I am going to put this here because *North By Northwest* is one of my five favorite Hitchcock films. Does anyone have any thoughts on why this film starts with the MGM logo/opening over a _green_ background instead of the typical black? I know that it kinda dissolves into the "animation" that then becomes the Madison Avenue building but that could have easily been done from the black background. I think it it is stylistically interesting - but, being Hitchcock, that's usually not the only reason for his choices. Am I supposed to have some sort of psychological experience from the green screen? I've often wondered. Kyle In Hollywood
  16. *"I just have this eerie feeling that TCM peruses Texas obituaries looking for my name so that Big City can make its return."* - ydobon Well, if that's the case it just may take an act of God 'cause I don't think one will ever see the headline - h4. Nobody Died In Texas Yesterday Kyle In Hollywood
  17. *"Well, I'm not anyone, I'm nobody..."* - ydobon You couldn't have picked "luftap", could ya. Kyle In Hollywood
  18. What is the point of removing messages posted 8 to 12 months ago from threads no one would bother reading anyway? Anyone? Kyle In Hollywood
  19. > {quote:title=rainingviolets21 wrote:}{quote} > And when they show The Dentist, I wonder if they will show > the scene where the female patient wraps her legs around > Fields when he is pulling her tooth... They sure did. And it was hysterical. Kyle In Hollywood
  20. *"I think the Alfred Hitchcock interview is coming up later this week."* The Dick Cavett / Alfred Hitchcock was shown on July 4^th^ but the Richard Schickel "Alfred Hitchcock is showing *tonight / overnight* after *Young And Innocent* . 21. As far as true "endings" go, I am kinda partial to - "Hello everybody. This is Mrs. Norman Maine." But the climax _near_ the end of *One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest* is pretty moving. (Haven't seen it in years. I would love TCM to get their hands on that.) Kyle In Hollywood
  22. lzcutter wrote - *"My name is......"* Uhh. Claude Rains? No that's not it. Hmm. Terrence Hill? Oh shoot. Gimme a minute. I'll get it. Kyle (Mr. Tibbs????) In Hollywood
  23. *"I'm usually content if they show just one different O'Brien flick per month "* - ydobon Pshaw. Inner peace will only come with one film - which shall remain nameless for fear of jinxing it. Or maybe that is part of your former life too and you no longer hold out hope of seeing "that movie" before the "end of days"? *"Are you participating this time?"* It all depends on the terms laid down by 'filmlover'. Anything I think is unnecessarily complicated and I may once again take a pass. *"Just hold a mirror by your screen."* Oh! Like "Evian". Or "Serutan". Now I get it. Ya see, neither of those items are in my shopping cart each week so I am a little slow - but not in the Serutan way. Kyle In Hollywood
  24. *"...but I don't see how this is in any way related to Bastille Day."* - Mlle. Minya Believe me. I searched my hard drive high and low looking for anything appropriate to an uprising of French peasants. But the well was dry. Kyle In Hollywood
