  1. *"When I was a kid most offesive linemen in the NFL probably didn't weigh more than about 250 or so."* - movieman1957 So true. Do the two on the right look anything like today's Offensive Linemen? (Paul Hornung / Jerry Kramer / Fuzzy Thurston) The one on the right is a Left Guard - and a friend of the family. (Hi Fuzzy!) Kyle In Hollywood Message was edited by: hlywdkjk
  2. *"A trashy dame said it best:* "Well, you already know how I feel about this one!" - FrankGrimes Hey! At least I picked the one that looks as if he is made-up to do *Some Like It Hot*. (It kinda creeps me out to look at it.) Kyle In Hollywood
  3. *"I can't remember the last time tcm showed his most poetic film, "East of Eden"."* - Stephen444 Neither can I - for sure anyway. But none of them have been around lately. *Giant* has been seen most recently - 2005 or 2006. I last remember *Rebel Without A Cause* during the Sydney Pollack "Essentials" years (or was it Rob Reiner?) But there is one citation for *Rebel...* in the Archives when TCM presented it and *Giant* along with a documentary on Dean - http://www.tcm.com/thismonth/article/?cid=17960 But *East Of Eden* has been AWOL for a longer time than either of Dean's other two films. 4. Your recollections, 'helenbaby' are spot on. Bill Maher didn't say anything controversial or disrespectful. I said it before and I'll say it again - The Guest Programmers come on TCM respectful of the opportunity they have been given and serious about the film choices they made. At least there is no evidence of discussions that depart from that atmosphere. If it happened, I am sure TCM could and would easily edit out those remarks. The "series" isn't a platform for advocacy and won't be used that way. Kyle In Hollywood
  5. *"I got this metal helmet I made - actually its a metal pot with tin foil attached..."* http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tin-foil_hat But, but, but Michael Chertoff _already knows_ what you're thinking about us. In fact, Michael Chertoff knows everything in your head before you do. Scary, huh? Hussein In Hollywood
  6. Sunday, June 30^th^ *Harvey*, showing tonight on TCM as part of the "Essentials, Jr."
  7. *"Oh I guess I must mention that I'm probably old enough to be your mother. Maybe I should just be your sugar mama instead."* - helenbaby Well, if you are, you are much better handling computers than my mother. There is no way she could learn to navigate something like these Message Boards. (Thank God for small miracles. Can't imagine what my life would be like if my Mother hung around here.) I guess I do still have an opening for a "Sugar Mama" - but SandyKaypax will always be my "Auntie Mame". (Hi Sandy!) Kyle In Hollywood
  8. *"I'm already thinking about editing my list! I didn't want to overload it with all the stuff I love..."* - Mlle Minya I thought "the stuff I love" was the point. I took the term "Favorites" in the original post literally and tried to choose only those films that I can watch multiple times (Or easily recommend to unsuspecting friends). So if you're going to edit your list, that's the one I'd like to see from Mlle. Kyle In Hollywood
  9. Helenbaby - I haven't seen the promo with Russell's offspring but will keep an eye out. But today I found Robert Osborne's take on Rosalind Russell and his appraisal on her being Star Of The Month. http://www.tcm.com/thismonth/article/?cid=204367 Kyle (people are asking where we're registered) In Hollywood
  10. Mlle. Minya - Wow. Only one swashbuckler. And not a "vampy" dame in sight either. (No letter "V" on the list either! Get back to work.) But I liked seeing *Kind Hearts And Coronets* and *Footlight Parade*. And as for a "Z", you can have my leftover - *Zebra In The Kitchen* if you want. (Don't tell me you've never seen that classic!) Kyle In Hollywood
  11. Saturday, Jume 28^th^ *The Spiral Staircase* is one of "The Essentials" tonight on TCM.
  12. *"I think EVERYONE picked "Vertigo" for "V" (I am also guilty) ....excepting a few ( the people who didn't pick it all picked a horror movie instead."* - ILoveRayMilland with 2 L's Ahem...not me. Didn't even occur to me to include that film. And I almost chose *Valmont* instead of the one I did pick. Kyle In Hollywood
  13. Capuchin - Regarding Miyazaki, TCM has beaten you to it - back in 2006. And they showed both the dubbed versions of the films and the Original versions with subtitles. http://www.tcm.com/thismonth/article/?cid=114160 Kyle In Hollywood
  14. pamala397 - I don't know how "serious" you are about your research but you might want to contact The Museum Of Broadcasting in NYC or Beverly Hills to see if they have copies of The Dick Cavett Show for viewing. Of course, you'd have to travel there to see it. But it might be possible that there is a "transcript" of the interview available for reading that could be sent to you in place of viewing it on site. Good Luck. Kyle In Hollywood
  15. I nominate two Gary Ross films - *Pleasantville* and *Seabiscuit*. I think Gary Ross is one director who definitely has a "Best Picture" Oscar in his future. I always look forward to seeing what he wants to do next. I would have also added *84 Charing Cross Road* but TCM is showing that in August. (Woo Hoo!) Kyle In Hollywood
  16. Hi 'susanb' - If you are wondering about "comparables" (comparing items of similar type and provenance), go to the Antiques Roadshow website (pbs.org) . Something tells me that more than once the program has appraised High School Yearbooks that included Hollywood Celebrities. But that same "something" also tells me that the yearbooks included "high school era" signatures of the famous student found in the book and those signatures added (a lot) to the value of the item. I don't know how easily one can search the program's archives but give it a shot. Kyle In Hollywood
  17. Friday, June 27^th^ In remembrance of Cyd Charisse... and a repost from March 22^nd^
  18. *"At first glance I thought I read Inchon..."* - lzcutter Wow. You really thought I meant the "Moonie" movie? Thank goodness you read it again. (And I need to watch *Indochine* again soon.) Kyle In Hollywood
  19. Not that it is really that important but I've decided to swap out my selection for the letter "I" - Out goes "I - Informer, The" (sorry MissG.) In its place I choose "I - Indochine". I decided that *Indochine* is more of a "favorite" than the McLaglen film - which is more of a "film I admire" than truly a "favorite". (And if you like epic, historical love stories, then you should definitely seek out *Indochine*.) Kyle In Hollywood
  20. Thursday, June 26^th^ Though it isn't part of the "Race In Hollywood: Asian Images In Film" event which concludes tonight, here's one final image featuring Anna May Wong. And for those expecting an image from tonight's line-up - Click through image to see larger size. Did this thread just "jump the shark"?
  21. *"That's telling him, Kylie! (although I'm unsure what "parochial" means)"* - MissGodess *parochial* : "narrowly restricted in outlook or scope". *"And I think your list showed EXCELLENT taste."* Don't know it that refers to the entire list or just the few titles highlighted by FG - but I'll take the compliment just the same. Thank You. Kyle In Hollywood
  22. *"Hey! I was asked to name my favorite films. I'm a Hitch fan, a Lang fan, a Grace fan, and a film noir fan."* - FrankGrimes "Hey!" to you too. I wasn't passing commentary on your list of favorite films. (Predictable as it was.) I was expressing surprise that you had seen _five_ of the films on _my_ list - which had no Hitchcock/Lang/GraceKelly. Or Pabst. Or Gloria Grahame. Or Preminger. Or Clouzot. I actually tried to avoid listing anything that would get the FrankGrimes "UL" (utterly lazy) seal of approval. Watching movies shouldn't be only about seeing what you already know you love. So 5 of 26. That's not bad, I guess - though it sounds alot like a Pirates Win/Loss record and you have to be positive about that too. Kyle In Hollywood
  23. *"Very good, SoKyle! I've only seen five on your list."* - FrankGrimes Well, on a list with no Hitchcock, no Lang and no Grace Kelly I am surprised you have even seen five of them. You've really got to stop being so parochial in your movie habits. Kyle In Hollywood
