*"Great poster. It looks so much taller than what others may be."* - movieman1975 You are really paying attention, Chris. It _is_ an odd size. It is definitely taller than a typical "Insert" poster (adjusted to scale) but not wide enough to be a scaled down version of what is called a 3_sheet poster. I tried to upload the image at the width that I use for most of these images (550 pixels) but it is so tall that 'flickr' had to resize it to a width under 400 pixels. 'flickr' has size limits of its own regarding height and width. And I admit that for the longest time, I kept thinking it must be intended to be displayed horizontally rather than vertically - the photos "make sense" that way - but then the text is on its side. So it must be a vertical poster. Glad you liked it. Kyle In Hollywood -

Sunday, June 15^th^ Happy Father's Day! -
Well, well, well. I see all is well in the Programming Challenge. I really hoped to participate but free time at got away from me at the end of May. No matter. Everyone who did get a schedule done did great work. Everyone should be proud. I like seeing 'Moviebuffer12' (and his daughter co-programmer) including "The Essentials, Jr." in their schedule - and their choice of *The African Queen* is perfect too. I watched that film many times as a youngster. I also smiled seeing the *New Faces Of 1937* and *The Producers* double feature in their schedule. And don't worry about being killed for programming *The Meaning Of Life*. I like it. (And I think it is *The Life Of Brian* that gets the rabble "roused") Speaking of rabble-rousing, *Carnal Knowledge* at 8am on a Saturday morning???? Followed by the Heroin Addiction in *Lady Sings The Blues*?????? Man the barricades because 'lzcutter' just declared war on the TCM faithful with those two choices at that time of day. (But I sooo want to see *The Parallax View* again so "You Go Girl".) I was going to chide 'lzcutter' for getting Kevin Brownlow to ghostwrite her schedule but knew he would never "frighten the horses" with those selections. And I promise not to tell "Bill Jr." about being dumped for a "Carey". Great schedule Lynn. And a great schedule 'filmlover'. Your abilities to create a full week around a single resource is amazing. You have followed up your prior WB week with one for Paramount that is equally inspired and exciting. Labeling W.C. Fields "The Ace Of Cads" is wonderful - and makes me want to see _that_ film too - along with the other Fields films. I'd look forward to seeing all the DeMille films and the Sternberg/Dietrich collaborations. Also happy to see you put *Day Of The Locust* on the TCM schedule. But I pick the schedule of *pancakes_barbara* as my favorite this time out. I really like the choices of spotlighting William Dieterle and Edward Buzzell. A hypothetical evening of Alfred Hitchcock as Guest Programmer is great fun (Fear of _Eggs_ ? Who knew?) and I really want to see Edward Arnold as "Nero Wolfe" to see if he was as good as Sidney Greenstreet was in the role on the radio. ( http://www.otr.net/?p=nero ) Plus choosing "Ben Movies" for the weekends proves she "gets it" as far as actually programming for the channel. Well done everyone. You all did the Tenth Anniversary Edition of the TCM Programming Challenge proud. Kyle In Hollywood

*"Well, well, well. What a very nice surprise this is. I was in need of a boost this morning, and you just provided me with a good one."* - FrankGrimes Down in the dumps on a Saturday morning? I recommend a little Laurel & Hardy starting within the hour. *"Thank you for Lang's "The Blue Gardenia". That's a very strong poster. A hand-full-o'-hair strong."* You're welcome. I know it is one of your least favorite Lang films so I didn't expect you to be so moved. Kyle In Hollywood -

Hey Peter - Back in the 90s, when the Cinerama Dome was still a single screen theater complex, I saw a 70mm presentation of *West Side Story* on the fabled curved screen - in six-track stereo. It was heaven. Do the Arclight/AFI screenings on Wednesdays use the big theater? While it might be nice to see *West Side Story* in a theater again, it wouldn't be the same if it isn't in the Dome. Well, at least one household has sat down and watched the films together. (Thanks for sharing that 'rohanaka'.) I hope more families are making the time to watch these films together. Lord knows, there is a "vast wasteland" of family-friendly programming on television these days. I think it is great that TCM makes an effort to fill that void. And it is kinda of heartening to learn that young boys and girls haven't changed all that much - if, as 'tobitz' writes, youngsters are still fascinated with some of the same things that intrigued me as a child. Whether or not the hosts are all that familiar with the films isn't that relevant to this series. It is all about finding a hook to get the young audience to tune in. Being "blank slates", the younger viewers are only going to look upon the hosts as a familiar face who can tell them about the plot of the movie they are going to see. The wee ones don't care who the director was, what year it came out or what Oscars the film might have won. They only want to be reassured the film is going to entertain them. And to the younger set, hearing Abigail Breslin say "This Is A Good Movie." probably is all that it takes. Kyle In Hollywood
-
*"This is only a shameless plug for Abigail Breslin's new film "Kit Kittredge: An American Girl"!!"* I wouldn't rule that aspect out but I also believe that this is a way for TCM to promote the series with the star of a new movie franchise. Did ya ever think that TCM might have been "using" her (and Chris O'Donnell) to suit _their_ purposes? In all liklihood, it was a "win-win" for both sides - though I think TCM got the better end of the deal. Kyle In Hollywood

Wednesday June 11^th^ *The Key* w/ Star Of The Month Sophia Loren tonight on TCM -
Well, it is two weeks into the summer series and I am wondering if anyone around here has watched the offerings with the intended audience - youngsters - and how they reacted to the films they saw? I am just wondering if young girls can still get excited about owning a horse or young boys can be excited about doing battle with Ray Harryhausen movie monsters. (I know we adults can be so excited.) Kyle In Hollywood

How about weighing in on the new oversized TCM logo....??
hlywdkjk replied to ccmiller1492's topic in General Discussions
Hello 'ccmiller1492' - A lot of regular members have posted on this topic in threads here - "TCM's New Logo "Bug" " http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/thread.jspa?threadID=114901&start=15&tstart=0&messageID=8000773#8000773 and here - "Oh No, A New Station Bug" http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/thread.jspa?threadID=114295&start=45&tstart=0&messageID=7996693#7996693 In the above threads, you'll learn you are not alone in your feelings about the "TCM.com" ID. Your sentiments have been expressed by others in these Forums. But there have been explanations and justifications expressed also - including posts from the head of programming for TCM. Though I don't believe it is found in either of the above threads, "tcmprogrammr' has written in these Forums that some film distributors - in an effort to combat piracy - would prefer that the logo stay up during the _entire_ presentation of certain feature films. TCM has fought that request. Is the "bug" an attempt to drive viewers to the website? Definitely. For TCM to remain commercial -free, it is looking to increase revenues through commercial activity on this website. The long-term health of TCM as a channel without advertising may be dependent on the shopping and banner ads found here. (I gotta start clicking on those banner ads.) In the minds of many viewers (and some members here) if that is the purpose of the new "bug" it is a reasonable price to pay to keep TCM programming "uncut and commercial-free". Kyle In Hollywood -

Mlle. Minya - Are you in the office already? You should set the recorder just to see June Allyson sing "Treat Me Rough". Kyle In Hollywood -
*"I hope TCM plays this almost forgotten little gem again."* - kaleman I do too - even though I did watch it Saturday Night. Months back when a few of us were suggesting films for this year's "31 Days Of Oscar", this film was on my list. It was a title with which I wasn't familiar and was intrigued by seeing Leslie Caron in an Oscar-nomnated dramatic role. Now, British urban dramas of the 60s aren't usually "my thing" ( *Saturday Night, Sunday Morning* ? No Thank You.) but this one exceeded my expectations. I particularly liked Brock Peters. Saturday's showing was a TCM premiere (Thanks, TCM!) and I hope a second or third showing is possible. I'd like to spend another evening with these characters. Kyle In Hollywood
