  1. "It's driving me crazy because I know I know that guy's voice from somewhere, but I can't figure out from where." Fear not. A lot of people have been driven to distraction trying to place that disembodied voice. Obviously, you're trying to place the male narrator (Joan Cusack narrates female "What A Character" spots.). James Cromwell is the male narrator. And if that still doesn't "ring a bell", think Farmer Hoggett in Babe. Kyle In Hollywood
  2. "Mary Astor is hilarious in a supporting role." Yes she is. And I just watched a doc on "The Rockefellers" and found it amusing how much of that "family" became integrated into the "Hackensacker" family. (The notebook of expenditures, for example.) If Mary Astor has never been Star Of The Month, she cerainly should be. Are there enough starring roles to make it work? kjk
  3. I was all set to throw my lot in with Key Largo and then read the nomination of The Palm Beach Story. OOoohh. That's a tough choice. And then I remembered that The Yearling also takes place in Florida. I can't pick just one from those three. Each of them deserves to be included. Kyle In Hollywood
  4. Thanks 'molo14'. So, I guess we hit a dead end with Delaware - unless we count Washington's crossing of the Delaware River between Pensylvania and New Jersey. Kyle In Hollywood
  5. "Is everyone stumped by Delaware? I sure am." Well, I think I have a confessional error to admit to. A few "Programming Challenges" back, I saluted Independence Day with a day long set of films with each film set in what were the original 13 Colonies or signatories to the Declaration Of Independence. For the theme I used the silent film Janice Meredith which is a Revolutionary War story. I think the film came up on a keyword search at IMDB. But looking at the synopsis here at the tcmdatabase, the "Delaware" keyword actually refers to the "Delaware River" - which I don't think is actually in Delaware. I think the setting for the film is actually Massachusettes. Maybe someone else can confirm it. It just ocurred to me - Senator Joe Biden of Delaware hosted a favorite film on TCM in 2000 - or 2004 - and I believe he chose Dead Poet's Society because of its Delaware setting. I am off to work so maybe someone can confirm if that is the case. Kyle In Hollywood
  6. "Ok, I would say the best movie that takes place in Colorado would be "The Shining." Any other nominees?" I'd like to submit The Unsinkable Molly Brown. "All right then. Next up Connecticut." And I'd like to offer for your consideration two pieces / three films from Eugene O'Neill - Ah, Wilderness! (1935) and it's musical version Summer Holiday (1948) or Long Day's Journey Into Night (1962) Kyle In Hollywood
  7. "All right then. Next up Connecticut." Hey! I wanted to put a word in for San Francisco which is probably a better representation of historical California than any other. (The Missions of California in Vertigo notwithstanding. Kyle In Hollywood
  8. "What the hell was the man who made Last Picture Show, Paper Moon and What's Up, Doc thinking?" I bet he wasn't thinking. And neither was Woody Allen when he made Everyone Says I Love You. Or Kenneth Branagh's "musical Shakespeare" movie (Love's Labor's Lost?). All equally deplorable. Kyle In Hollywood
  9. OK, you all are on notice. Anyone dissing the glorious '70s is gonna have to answer to me. 'cause You don't tug on Superman's cape. You don't take candy from a child You don't pull the mask off the ol' Lone Ranger and you don't mess around with Kyle. Kyle ( puttin' on my-my-my-my-my Boogie Shoes ) In Hollywood ps - How can you not like a film with a line like "So, you wanna peel the tomato?" Message was edited by: hlywdkjk
  10. Re: Arkansas Is it Gentlemen Prefer Blondes that has the iconic song "A Girl From Little Rock"? That's about the only reference I can come up with. That is, unless parts of Primary Colors (not a bad movie either) are set in Arkansas. Kyle In Hollywood
  11. whistlingypsy - In all my online activity, I have never come across a "quality" poster for a Fatty Arbuckle film. I don't think I ever saw a mediocre poster either. So, sadly, "No". I don't have one to share. I wasn't even sure if "Snub" Pollard & Max Davidson were comedians at first. I snaggd them just because it said "Hal Roach" in big letters. The "comedians" is continuing in here for the rest of the week. I think everyone will find a few surprises among those yet to come. And I hope you will enjoy them as much as you have enjoyed the ones posted so far. Kyle In Hollywood
  12. Sounds like the premise of a Neil Simon comedy - "Can a TCM Fanatic share a life with an AMC Viewer without driving each other crazy". Kyle In Hollywood
  13. Thanks Minya. I hope you had the chance to watch The Kid last evening. Kyle In Hollywood
  14. Love the inclusion of the "clavicle"and the "love birds" Well done Gregory1965 and mr6666. (And I don't know what to think of FrankGrimes' selection. The Ford pixies must have got to him.) Gotta add "The Cane" of Charlie Chaplin "The Silver Dollar" of George Raft (in whatever movie he flips/tosses a Silver Dollar) "The Glass Of Milk" in Suspicion (it glows!) "The Earrings of Ma Joad" in The Grapes Of Wrath "The Grapefruit" in The Public Enemy "The Chess Piece" in Stalag 17 "The Lock Of Hair" in The Westerner and "stealing" from a different thread "The Needlpoint" from The Heiress Kyle In Hollywood
  15. skimpole - Fun Idea - and one I have thought about before. Just so I understand, you want everyone to brainstorm on a single state before moving on to the next one? Is that right? 'Cause when you get to the States formed from the Original 13 Colonies, I got a few you can use from the second programming challenge I did. Kyle In Hollywood
  16. "Please send some of that beautiful snow here to L.A.!" - CSJr Speak for yourself. I am planning on getting out in today's 80^o^ and sunny weather here in Hollywood. I look a bit pasty after the wet winter. Kyle In Hollywood
  17. Fun Topic! "The Hourglass" in The Wizard Of Oz "The Key" in Notorious "The Snowglobe" in Citizen Kane "ZuZu's Petals" in It's A Wonderful Life "The Falcon" in The Maltese Falcon Kyle In Hollywood
  18. "I've liked your comedic poster turn of late, Kyle." - FrankGrimes Awww. You're just saying that. But what you really mean is "Thank God I haven't had to look at Gary Cooper again lately." Am I right? And don't worry. There won't be any Fords anytime soon either. I haven't finished with the comedians just yet. Kyle In Hollywood
  19. "Why was that article notorious?" - KPR No ill-will intended in that statement or in the rest of my post. Just acknowledging that that article has generated a lot of discussion in these parts - some of it quite "lively". I was only posting some readily available info for readers that may be more interested in learning more about the staff of TCM And I could be very wrong about the writers at Movie Morlocks. It comes from an assumption that most "blogs" for corporate sites are manned by staffers or other personalities that work for the company. I know that isn't true for ALL the writers there (Hi Mark and Moira!) but I thought it applied to one or two of them. So, I'm not angry about anything, my friend. I was just trying to be helpful. I am kinda beat tonight - so much so that I'd say I was too tired to even give off a "vibe". Kyle In Hollywood
