scsu1975 - You didn't do anythig to apologise for - from what I read. I was going to point out that certain post was directed to the wrong person myself but you beat me to it. "Programs! Get Your Programs. You Can't Tell The Play-ers Without A Program!" Kyle In Hollywood

"Popcorn! Peanuts! Cracker Jack!" Are you guys gonna keep this up all night? Just let me know 'cause this promises to be more entertaining than Maverick and I'd like to sell refreshments. "Get's your tootsy-frootsy Ice Cream". Kyle In Hollywood

"Eleanor Parker's transformative arc from a sweet kid to a hardened woman was amazing." - CineMaven Sounds a lot like "Eve Harrington" to me. Kyle In Hollywood

"We saw Joaquin Phoenix, Reese Witherspoon, all them." - virginia1995 That's so funny as just last year Reese Witherspoon and Peter Skarsgaard were in the restaurant where I work to shoot a scene for Rendition. I was there - and was paid - to troubleshoot any problems/questions about the restaurant and to clean up after they left. Didn't get close to either one of them - not that I really wanted to anyway. Last week the Coen Brothers sent someone to scout the restaurant for a possible location for a future film. I haven't heard if anythig definite has come of it though. Kyle In Hollywood

"...it was Anne Baxter who insisted on being in the Best Actress category instead of the Best Supp. Actress. Which, if true, is too bad because she likely would have won as Best Supporting." Well, does she really deserve to be "competing" against these roles? Hope Emerson - Caged Celeste Holm - All About Eve Josephine Hull - Harvey Nancy Olson - Sunset Boulevard Thelma Ritter - All About Eve And it looks like the potential problem of "vote-splitting" would be even worse in that category. "Wow, Ben-Hur, Lawrence of Arabia and Bridge Over The River Kwai. All, one right after the other." My gluteus needs to be more maximus to be able to sit through all three of those films back-to-back. Kyle In Hollywood

"Baxter's Oscar nomination insistence spoiled things." Well, she is the title character. It is her story. "Your thoughts?" I am and have been an unrepentant "Billie Dawn" advocate/apologist for a long time. And nothing will change that. (Though I have never seen Caged.) Kyle In Hollywood

I heard Ben Makiewicz gave a very heartfelt intro/outro on his uncle's film. Sorry I missed that. Wouldn't it be "fun" if TCM could show all four of the films from 1950 wth Best Actress nominees back-to-back one night? Anne Baxter - All About Eve Bette Davis - All About Eve Judy Holliday - Born Yesterday Eleanor Parker - Caged Gloria Swanson - Sunset Boulevard It probably won't settle the argument of "who wuz robbed' that night but at least we all would have the films fresh in our minds when discussing them. Maybe we could even find a (devil's) advocate for Eleanor Parker in here. Kyle In Hollywood

James Woods "Word of Mouth" on Bette Davis
hlywdkjk replied to lzcutter's topic in General Discussions
"Was I the only one who enjoyed it?" Not at all. So much more insightful (and surprising) to hear the views of a talented male actor than the views of Meryl Streep (yet still interesting) from her "Star Of The Month" piece. I believe the piece was extracted from the "Stardust" documentary that premiered on TCM in 2006. I know James Woods was all over that documentary. And "Stardust: The Bette Davis Story" will be shown again on April 5th during a 24-hour salute to Bette Davis (which I assume is the anniversary of her birth.) Definitely worth making time for. Kyle In Hollywood -
I am going to assume that the presentations of Raging Bull and Network this past month was "uncut" so obviously what was "TCM policy" in 1998 has evolved by 2008. I haven't seen Zabriske Point but it sounds like it's removal from the schedule isn't a language, nudity or violence issue - but a sexual content issue. Of course the mind boggles at just what level of explicitness - real or simulated - is in the movie. Kyle ("I am curious - though not yellow") In Hollywood

"Is it safe?" Marathon Man on TCM tonight!
hlywdkjk replied to lzcutter's topic in General Discussions
"The Day of the Jackal, Three Days of the Condor, and Marathon Man all in one evening!! How great was that!!" - SSOS About as good as it gets. Ain't TCM grand? Damn. Marathon Man is one fine movie. And there isn't one instace in the plot that strains credulity. Can't say that about most thrillers - or the like - nowadays. (See The Departed.) Kyle In Hollywood -
"Actually, SEVERAL films have been pulled, including Fritz the Cat and The Last House on the Left. Did those films actually make it to a published schedule? I never saw Fritz The Cat included in a Monthly listing. (Can't say for sure about The Last House On The Left.) I know MGMWBRKO (it was MGMWBRKO, wasn't it?) wrote about a slew of films considered for "TCM Underground" that were rejected but my understanding was they were just that - considered. But maybe I misunderstood. Kyle In Hollywood

KingoGondo - I wasn't intimating you were anything but honest. And I don't think anyone in these Forums was thinking you were lying about your statement. I was just curious because the situation you described occurs very rarely - to my knowledge. In fact, the only instance of "meddling" by S&P at TCM that I - or anyone here - would be aware of happened last June when members were told certain films needed to be moved past 9pm Pacific Time. Otherwise, none of us here ever heard mention of S&P at TCM before. If they choose to respond, I can't imagine that the Programming Dept wouldn't be forthright about the schedule change. From my understanding, S&P is part of a channel's Legal Department anyway - and not Programming - making them independent and "the last word" on such decisions. That's nothing for which the Programming Dept should be embarassed - or need to "spin" for public consumption. But I don't understand how pulling a film for content reasons somehow violates the "Uncut and Commercial-Free" dictum of TCM. Kyle In Hollywood

"You don't want me to mention certain boys and those German sherpards..." Kenneth, I think you are confusing Marathon Man and the film that comes after it. And just so you know, I have done the same many times myself. Kyle In Hollywood -
Ethical Question: Should Tracy let the lynchers hang?
hlywdkjk replied to FredCDobbs's topic in General Discussions
The mob didn't kill anyone so where is the capital offense that "requires" the state's taking of a life? Attempted murder certainly isn't a "death penalty" crime. If Spencer Tracy let his persecutors die for a crime they didn't commit he would be responsible for the deaths of men innocent of the crime with they were charged - there by making him their "executioner" Kyle In Hollywood. -
"Marihuana was also removed from the {May} schedule." That may be due to run-time/logistical issues for the planned "triple feature" of Reefer Madness, Marihuana and Cocaine Fiends[/b]. 'sweetsmellofsuccess' pointed that out yesterday in a different thread. Perhaps it wasn't possible to fit all three films into the alloted four-hour timeslot. But I can't believe it is a content issue. If Reefer Madness is OK, there shouldn't be a problem with Marihuana. Just guessing though as I haven't seen either movie. Kyle In Hollywood

As the end of "31 Days..." approaches I am already missing the Freshpaint Promo for this year's event. It isn't THE highlight of the month (The premires of Wings or All Aboout Eve are battling for that distinction.) but it is certainly a big part of what has been a very memorable month. I hope FreshPaint gets to work on the "Race In Hollywood: Asian-Americans Images on Film" event - or this year's "Summer Under The Stars" line-up. If not, there's always next year...
