  1. KingoGondo - Just curious. How do you know it was a S & P decision and not a print availablity issue? Kyle In Hollywood
  2. "...now how about one of my suggestions? The Bitter Tea of General Yen!" - Jezebel38 "Keep an eye out for June." - tcmprogrammr (in reply to the above.) We've barely started discussing the May listings and 'tcmprogrammr' drops that hint (bombshell?) about what lies ahead for June. It sounds like The Bitter Tea Of General Yen will be featured during June's "Race In Hollywood: Asian Americans in Hollywood" event. I am intrigued. A Frank Capra film starring Barbara Stanwyck that I have never seen certainly sounds interesting. (Where's JackBurley - who saw this in a theater a year ago - to fill us in with a review?) Kyle In Hollywood
  3. "It is not permanent..." - tcmprogrammr Whew! Thanks for the reassurance. kjk
  4. May 2008 - The Good - The Matchmaker returns on May 4th (I missed it last month) Hobson's Choice on May 19th "Rudolph Valentino Morning" on May 6th Reefer Madness, Marihuana and Cocaine Fiends on May 9th The Merry Widow (Ernst Lubitsch) on May 12th The Toy Wife (Louise Rainer) on May 13th "John Payne" Morning on May 21st (Garden Of The Moon!) My Sister Eileen (Betty Garrett version) on May 21st A full Memorial Day Weekend of military films (ignore the Sinatra break on Sunday) (and The Progamming Challenger in me loves the "Here and There" line-up on the 19th.) May 2008 - The Bad - Wings returns on May 26th in the middle of the night. A Hole In The Head is shown in the middle of the night May 2008 -The Ugly - "Silent Sunday Nights" and "TCM Imports" on hiatus and FrankGrimes and The CooperGals inevitably "dooking it out" over Cooper day and the obscure Hitchcock films. Kyle (girding my loins over "TV Shows" on TCM yet again) In Hollywood
  5. "Silent Sunday's seems to be gone along with TCM Import - I hope this isn't permanent." - Terry_W. I hope so too. I am hoping it is only to incorporate the unique Frank Sinatra specials into the schedule with an interesting timeslot. (The Frank Sinatra Event corresponds to the realease of what must be a Frank Sinatra "mega-boxset" that month.) Kyle In Hollywood
  6. Because there is no info included with the listing - and because some folks may be unfamiliar with the film - here's the lowdown on my "Oh my Gawd!" listing for May. Monday May 19th Hobson's Choice (1954) Henry Hobson runs a successful bootmaker's shop in nineteenth-century Salford. A widower with a weakness for the pub opposite, he tries forcefully to rule the lives of his three unruly daughters. When he decrees 'no marriages' to avoid the expensive matter of settlements, eldest daughter Maggie rebels and sets her sights on Will Mossop, Hobson's star bootmaker. Maggie and Will leave to start up in competition, and she then turns her mind to helping her sisters marry their chosen partners. Cast: Charles Laughton, John Mills, Brenda De Banzie Director: David Lean Kyle In Hollywood
  7. "For some reason, however, I don't think we'll be seeing Wonder Bar on DVD any time soon...." - Fedya I can see where you're coming from - but it The Jazz Singer and Babes In Arms can make it to DVD... And I should have included Wonder Bar on my list of titles below to be "boxed" Kyle In Hollywood
  8. Don't know if I have ever had the honor of being the first to post this announcement. The May 2008 Listings Are Up. Eastern Daylight Time - http://www.tcm.com/schedule/month/?cid=&timezone=EST&oid=5/1/2008 Central Daylight Time - http://www.tcm.com/schedule/month/?cid=&timezone=CST&oid=5/1/2008 Mountain Daylight Time - http://www.tcm.com/schedule/month/?cid=&timezone=MST&oid=5/1/2008 Pacific Daylight Time - http://www.tcm.com/schedule/month/?cid=&timezone=PST&oid=5/1/2008 Now I am going to read them! (I was gonna watch a Buster Keaton but not now.) Kyle In Hollywood
  9. ". I tend to overwrite." - sugarpuss I hadn't noticed. Ilove curling up with a good 'sugarpuss' post. One can read "Les Miserables" only so many times. But at least the quality of a 'sugarpuss' post never suffers from the quantity of the post. And I like knowing all that "book-learning" has been put to good use. You're the only person I know who has found a Clifton Webb biography - let alone read it. Kyle In Hollywood
  10. "{W}as "Dames" the movie where all the clothes start dancing around by themselves on the clothesline? Or was it one of the "Gold Diggers" movies. I haven't seen any of those movies in awhile. I know I watched them all when Harry Warren had that month long tribute, but after awhile everything starts blurring together. - sugarpuss Yes. "The Girl At The Ironing Board" is from Dames. But I had to look it up to make sure. Even I (the one with the Harry Warren suggestion) gets them confused. I would like TCM / WB put out a second box-set of WB Musicals with the titles like Go Into Your Dance, Garden Of The Moon, Hollywood Hotel and Twenty Million Sweethearts. "The Girlfriend Of The Whirling Dervish" deserves to immortalized on DVD. Kyle In Hollywood
  11. "I can put up with a Cooper poster that features Grace." - FrankGrimes OK. Let me see if I understand. Grace = Good. Jean Arthur / Helen Hayes = Bad. "Hitch" = Good. "Pappy" = Bad. David O. = Desperate. Gawd. I'll be happy when "31 Days..." is done so I can go back to being impulsive. (Actually, I have most of March already planned out.) But if this keeps up, it might go off without a "Hitch" or a "Fritz" or a "Mini-Cooper". "12 Days for 'movieman1957' " sounds really appealing about now. Kyle In Hollywood
  12. "But the best of the bunch is Jodie Foster in "The Birds". She's absolutely stunning there!" - sugarpuss I don't know. That one scared me. And I kinda wish she had been placed in a Rebecca recreation. The personal subtext would have been so appropriate. Kyle In Hollywood
  13. "I thought other posters would like to have the link, just in case they want to read the whole thing." Thank You 'cascabel' - for multiple reasons. Kyle In Hollywood
  14. Well, if it is old news I'll step back out quietly. Kyle In Hollywood
  15. I know I am being lazy by not looking for myself - But have the Vanity Fair "stills" been posted in here? Javier Bardem & Scarlett Johansson Kyle In Hollywood
  16. phelps - Use the edit button and go in and look at your OP to see if you have lines of text with a "space" at the beginning of the line.- or some other errant character. "Spaces" at the beginning of a line will cause the text that follows to "disappear". So your thoughts may still be around - just not displayed. Otherwise, your OP looks exactly like it did last night when I first read it I see no evidence of "post-editting". Kyle In Hollywood
  17. Victor - Ignore that poster. He/She is very familiar arond here - even though they has only been "registered" for three days. And my sincere condolences. Kyle In Hollywood
  18. I didn't watch it the other night - and I saw the play MANY years ago - but isn't the sexual gratification really not much different than that of a woman and a bicylcle. We're not talking about an act of ****, for goodness sakes. Kyle In Hollywood Message was edited by: hlywdkjk because he forgot an important "not".
