*"It's just like the guest programmers? Haven't these people seen any other movies?"*
Well, ya can't say Evander Holyfoeld didn't bring some "new" titles to the mix.

Have to say, I was pleased to see Douglas Fairbanks and *The Thief Of Baghdad* included in tonight's show.

Ooops!
Silly me confusing George Murphy and Jack Carson. They both occupy the same "terra filma" in my head. One is a great "second banana" and the other is a .... great "second banana". Mind ya, that's in my mind.
Sorry for the scare, molo14.

Hi 'Prim' -
That sorta describes *Sorry, Wrong Number* w/ Barbara Stanwyck - who overhears on her telephone a plot to murder a woman.

Found it.
John McCain hosted a presentaion of Stanley Kubrick's *Paths Of Glory* in Septemeber 2004. (Senator Orrin Hatch presented *To Kill A Mockingbird* that month also.)
One can read more about it here -

And the John McCain intor & outro can viewed in the TCM Media room. Or try this link

*"Well, that sums it up for his thought and maybe yours Kyle... People who believe in God are sheep.."*
I mis-typed there and apoligise for it. What I fully intended but somehow got wrong was to write "Sheeple" - people who display no ability to think for themselves.
And just so you know, John McCain hosted afilm presentaition on TCM in 2004, as did Orrin Hatch (I believe). But I can't for the life of me remember what film he chose to present. I'll see if I can look it up in the archives.

*"You could not pay me to watch this!"* - gagman66
You're sentiments are shared by a large number of folks. But they do take their methodology seriously when preparing these specials.
As for me, you couldn't pay me to watch *Tea House Of The August Moon* again (not enough Paul Ford) - but I'll try to catch the intro.

Bill Maher is a self-described Libertarian who has a very low tolerence for hypocrisy and "sheeple".
What I'd like to know is if he _did_ compare film musicals to porn in his discussion of *My Fair Lady*.
Now _that's_ the Bill Maher I love.

Well, things are perfectly timed for me tonight as I can catch *Bad Day At Black Rock* and then catch the newest AFI special.
Does anyone know what the Ten Genres the AFI is going to include in this special? I assume there will be "Musical", "Romance", "Adventure" and "Comedy". And I think I saw "Animation" in a promo for the special this weekend. All worthy topics. Just curious what the others might be.
And consider this a thread for Discussion of the special too.

Hello 'SeniorMoment' -
You can go back and scan the film and shorts titles for the end of May here -
http://www.tcm.com/schedule/month/?cid=&timezone=PST&oid=5/1/2008
I can't tell you what film or short has the caveman sequence you saw through bleary eyes. But about the only "unseen by me" musical during that time period is *After The Dance* w/ Jack Carson which was shown early on Tuesday May 27th.

I learned of this on my walk home from the subway station tonight.
Stan Winston has a Star on the "Walk Of Fame" and the Hollywood Chamber Of Commerce had already placed a wreath display on his star.

*"Great poster. It looks so much taller than what others may be."* - movieman1975
You are really paying attention, Chris. It _is_ an odd size. It is definitely taller than a typical "Insert" poster (adjusted to scale) but not wide enough to be a scaled down version of what is called a 3_sheet poster.
I tried to upload the image at the width that I use for most of these images (550 pixels) but it is so tall that 'flickr' had to resize it to a width under 400 pixels. 'flickr' has size limits of its own regarding height and width.
And I admit that for the longest time, I kept thinking it must be intended to be displayed horizontally rather than vertically - the photos "make sense" that way - but then the text is on its side. So it must be a vertical poster.
Glad you liked it.

I wanted to mention all the members that have participated because there was really no single winner in any of the Challenges. Everyone who has taken part has done amazing work. Though *patful* does get extra credit in my book.
On another note -
Congratulations 'filmlover'. Well done. I was confident you'd get the chance to moderate again one of these days.

Well, well, well. I see all is well in the Programming Challenge.
I really hoped to participate but free time at got away from me at the end of May. No matter. Everyone who did get a schedule done did great work. Everyone should be proud.
I like seeing 'Moviebuffer12' (and his daughter co-programmer) including "The Essentials, Jr." in their schedule - and their choice of *The African Queen* is perfect too. I watched that film many times as a youngster. I also smiled seeing the *New Faces Of 1937* and *The Producers* double feature in their schedule. And don't worry about being killed for programming *The Meaning Of Life*. I like it. (And I think it is *The Life Of Brian* that gets the rabble "roused")
Speaking of rabble-rousing, *Carnal Knowledge* at 8am on a Saturday morning???? Followed by the Heroin Addiction in *Lady Sings The Blues*?????? Man the barricades because 'lzcutter' just declared war on the TCM faithful with those two choices at that time of day. (But I sooo want to see *The Parallax View* again so "You Go Girl".) I was going to chide 'lzcutter' for getting Kevin Brownlow to ghostwrite her schedule but knew he would never "frighten the horses" with those selections. And I promise not to tell "Bill Jr." about being dumped for a "Carey". Great schedule Lynn.
And a great schedule 'filmlover'. Your abilities to create a full week around a single resource is amazing. You have followed up your prior WB week with one for Paramount that is equally inspired and exciting. Labeling W.C. Fields "The Ace Of Cads" is wonderful - and makes me want to see _that_ film too - along with the other Fields films. I'd look forward to seeing all the DeMille films and the Sternberg/Dietrich collaborations. Also happy to see you put *Day Of The Locust* on the TCM schedule.
But I pick the schedule of *pancakes_barbara* as my favorite this time out. I really like the choices of spotlighting William Dieterle and Edward Buzzell. A hypothetical evening of Alfred Hitchcock as Guest Programmer is great fun (Fear of _Eggs_ ? Who knew?) and I really want to see Edward Arnold as "Nero Wolfe" to see if he was as good as Sidney Greenstreet was in the role on the radio. ( http://www.otr.net/?p=nero ) Plus choosing "Ben Movies" for the weekends proves she "gets it" as far as actually programming for the channel.
Well done everyone. You all did the Tenth Anniversary Edition of the TCM Programming Challenge proud.

*"Well, well, well. What a very nice surprise this is. I was in need of a boost this morning, and you just provided me with a good one."* - FrankGrimes
Down in the dumps on a Saturday morning? I recommend a little Laurel & Hardy starting within the hour.
*"Thank you for Lang's "The Blue Gardenia". That's a very strong poster. A hand-full-o'-hair strong."*
You're welcome. I know it is one of your least favorite Lang films so I didn't expect you to be so moved.

*"No, it's in #13, which is still a good size screen."*
Too bad. It's a shame that the Dome isn't put to better use as the unique movie palace that it is.

Hey Peter -
Back in the 90s, when the Cinerama Dome was still a single screen theater complex, I saw a 70mm presentation of *West Side Story* on the fabled curved screen - in six-track stereo. It was heaven.
Do the Arclight/AFI screenings on Wednesdays use the big theater? While it might be nice to see *West Side Story* in a theater again, it wouldn't be the same if it isn't in the Dome.

Watching "Bad Day At Black Rock "

Yes. You got the name of the movie right. And I doubt that you will ever forget it.
Tonight I suddenly wanted TCM to select Wlater Brennan for a "Star Of The Month" salute. I do so admire him - though I am partial to _all_ the Brennan/Cooper films.
I think *State Of The Union* is a very good film also - thanks to the script, Tracy & Hepburn, Frank Capra and Angela Lansbury doing her Manchurain Candidate evilness a few years before she gets to kiss her son.
I also recommend *The Last Hurrah* as a decent Spencer Tracy political film.
