  1. It seems "the ghost" has taken up home in my "machine". Somehow he / she / it decided to mutilate some of my film poster files and cropped some of the images.

Strangely, they all seem to be "someone's" favorites. Boy, that is one vengeful "ghost".

Here's the ones I've found so far...

  2. *"Are you going to read over him Kyle?"*

You mean, am I a "read him and weep" kinda guy. Nah.

I'd make William Holden in *,,,River Kwai* look positively eloquent. And what can one say about a person's journey into the heart of darkness from which they couldn't escape?

I am still curious as to who pulled the trigger on FG. And if he really is "pushing daisies"or if he just got "clipped". If he's still around, I hope he doesn't try to finger me. I'm just the bag boy.

  3. The Charlton Heston Tribute has been announced. It will occur this Friday afternoon and evening.

    http://www.tcm.com/movienews/index/?cid=197976

Excerpted from the above link -

    ----------

In Tribute to actor Charlton Heston, who died Saturday, April 5th at age 84, TCM is changing its evening programming on Friday, April 11th to honor the actor with a six-film salute.

    _Friday, April 11th:_

    (all times EDT)

2:30 PM *Private Screenings: Charlton Heston*

    3:30 PM *The Buccaneer (’58)*

    5:30 PM *The Hawaiians*

8:00 PM *Private Screenings: Charlton Heston*

    9:00 PM *Ben-Hur*

    1:00 AM *Khartoum*

    3:30 AM *Major Dundee*

    ------------

This schedule change takes the place of a evening saluting Jose Ferrer and the films

    *Cyrano de Bergerac*

    *Moulin Rouge* and

    *Enter Laughing*

along with the preemption of that evening's TCM Underground selections -

    *Attack Of The Crab Monsters*

    *The Thing From Another World*

and a showing of the documentary *Watch The Skies!*

Mr. Heston passed away late Saturday night and it is still early Monday morning. Give TCM time to consider how they best can honor the death of "Moses" I wouldn't be surprised if we know what is planned by the end of the day.

  5. (And I don't mean our erudite Board Member 'WaldoLydecker'.)

With sincere apologies to 'TripleHHH' for "borrowing" this post format, I offer up this imaginary match-up of poison penmanship.

I can't choose a favorite between the two. I find the two characters equally fascinating. The kind of person grown only in New York City.

I wonder who would triumph in an maginary feud between the two. Now THERE"S a movie.

Of course, they would both be cut down to size by J.J. Hunsecker. I can't imagine either DeWitt or Lydecker being able to compete against that man. "Light me, Sidney" is one of the most intimidating and terrifying lines of dialogue ever uttered.

By chance, is your VCR clock off by an hour today? Many electronic devices with clocks that were/are capable of automatically updating for Daylight Savings Time moved ahead an hour overnight last night because, until this year, today was the first day to move the clocks forward.

This would explain why everything is "off" by an hour for you.

  7. *"Please, no more schedule changes!"*

Well, PrinceSaliano, life has a way of intruding on the plans of TCM. Such tributes have been a tradition on TCM since the earliest days of the channel. They don't treat these decisions lightly and are aware that changes to the schedule will disappoint some (many) people.

But films that are pre-empted due to such unexpected changes are rescheduled for a later date - if possible.

  8. Hi Fedya -

Yes. I, too, remember the precedent setting pre-emption of the final night of Robert Montgomery's "Star Of The Month" event to honor the passing of Shelly Winters - though I wasn't left with egg on my face over the incident as you were.

I could see TCM taking the daytime path in this instance. I think TCM has more than enough films in its "library" right now to easily fill those fourteen hours. A double feature of *Ben-Hur* and *The Greatest Show On Earth* could cover nearly half of those hours with just those two films. TCM is not lacking for material to use in its Heston tribute.

But as a matter of recognition, if you were TCM could you remember Heston during the daytime hours so soon after Richard Widmark was offered a tribute in primetime? And not feel "guilty" about it?

I suppose they could and explain it as needing the extra time the daytime hours offer to do the tribute right. But I am not so sure that it wouldn't appear that Heston wasn't being honored in the manner he deserved. As a true legendary figure in Hollywood, I think he has earned an evening tribute.

Heck. Now that I think of it, a full 24-hour tribute wouldn't be out of place at all either. It certainly would make it special. And because so many of Heston's best films are two-plus hours, stretching the tribute over a full day could still contain only about eight or nine films.

  9. *"If there isn't, Kyle, there ought to be."* - nightwalker

I was scanning the schedule late last night to see what evening might be the best choice for

pre-empting the previously scheduled films in order to add an evening of Charlton Heston films - including, I assume, a showing of *Ben-Hur* - and be the least "disruptive".

And because that film is so long, certain evenings wouldn't be logical chices or appropriate. A Sunday night won't work because it would bump "Silent Sunday Nights and "TCM Imports". And a Friday evening has "TCM Underground" on the schedule which would allow only one other film (or maybe two) to be shown along with *Ben-Hur*.

Most of the scheduled evenings remaining in the month have some pretty special programming planned. The "Star Of The Month" and "TCM Spotlight - Ridin' The Rails" aren't likely to be

pre-empted. There is the "Guest Programmer" evening with Alex Trebek yet to come. There is a night of light comedies that includes the "premiere" of *Easy Living* which should remain on the schedule. There is also the premiere showing of "Idols: Gene Wilder" on Tuesday April 15^th^ that won't be changed.

This Tuesday already has Charlton Heston's *Major Dundee* on the schedule - but I think that day is too soon to change and to effectively promote as a Tribute event. But April 29^th^ has Heston's *Khartoum* already on the schedule. I could see that evening being turned into a Charlton Heston tribute evening quite easily. (Though it would mean pre-empting two premieres I was anticipating seeing - *Zulu* and *Glory*.)

Of course, TCM could go the daytime route and pre-empt an entire 14 hour daytime line-up to remember Charlton Heston. They have done that in the past. But I don't know if that would be the most honorific tribute to this Oscar winner.

Some films I would like to see included -

    *Ben-Hur*

    *Touch Of Evil*

    *Soylent Green*

    *The Agony And The Ecstacy*

Just my musings on the subject. I am sure we'll learn what TCM has planned in the next day or so.

  10. The TCM "Private Screenings" episode with Charlton Heston is scheduled for this Monday morning, April 7^th^ followed by a showing of *The Wreck Of The Mary Deare*. This was already on the schedule.

But I would bet that an evening will be set aside to remember Charlton Heston before the end of the month also.

  11. *"I just pulled my tape of it and looked at it to see if I can discern the date. I couldn't. It has the TCM opening of the orchestra playing and no Robert Osborne introduction."* - molo14

Funny to learn it has been around the TCM vaults so long. Thanks for looking at your recording and trying to place a date to the showing.

I guess it is just an added "extra" to the "On Demand" line-up for the month - like the films *Facts Of Life* and *Alias Jesse James* which are also available. (or are those part of the regular TCM schedule? Has there been a Bob Hope night lately?)

  12. *"I receive TCM on satellite dish. Some pay-per-view is available. Is TCM on Demand available and if so, could you tell me where to look? I appreciate it."* - tobitz

I don't know much of anything about satellite service but others here who use satellite for TCM (DishNetwork or DirectTV) have said that the "On Demand" service isn't available to them.

    Sorry.

  13. *"I'm cursed with dial-up, so I presume TCM on Demand is out of the question."* - tobitz

    Hi 'tobitz' -

"TCM On Demand" is a service for digital cable subscribers - not internet users - that is similar to "pay-per-view" except that it is all free. If you can receive digital cable, you should check and see if you can also get the "On Demand" service.

  14. *"...I saw kriegerg69 had a post pointing out that shorts are now listed on the monthly schedules. The Gay Parisian is not scheduled with the June showing of An American in Paris, and is not currently scheduled at all."* - tobitz

Don't fret yet, 'tobitz'. The persons responsible for scheduling the shorts and promos, etc. that appear between films work on a much shorter time frame than the film programmers.

The short films only get added to the listings about a week to ten days before their appearance on the channel. If you look at the April listings you'll see that the last half of the month has had no short films added to the line-up yet. But they'll show up in the listings around the Fifteenth.

So, check the June schedule near the beginning of the month to see what shorts might bookend *An American In Paris*. It is possible "The Gay Parisienne* could be shown again. TCM does have "favorite" shorts to accompany certain films. For a long time, showings of *On The Town* were often accompanied with a James FitzPatrick "TravelTalk" on "Mighty Manhattan".

What? You're a fan of *Dig That Uranium!* too? Atta boy!

Sorry I took the wind out of your sails. I thought leaving out casinos would have made it really difficult to find titles.

From now on I promise not to be a title hog.
