OK, did I doze off?
I swear that the scene of Dorothy seeing Auntie Em / The Wicked Witch in the large Crystal Ball in the Witch's Castle "disappeared" today. Did anyone happen to record /TIVO it so they could check?
All I remember seeing is Toto running out of the castle, appearing in the woods, our heroes over-powering the three guards and entering the castle where upon, Toto leads them to the door behind which Dorothy is captive.
Somewhere in the above, the Crystal Ball scene should have appeared, shouldn't it?

*"...it’s just a marketing tool like all the others, used as a way to change TCM toward more modern films."*
It's all about context. That's all. A celebration of Asian Images in Film that didn't include contemporary actors wouldn't be very inclusive or complete. If a film from 2001 helps elaborate that history, it is better to include it than exclude it.
The same was true of Denzel Washington and Spike Lee films that were part of the very first "Race In Hollywood" series two years ago. It would have been unforgiveable to end that series with Sidney Poitier films as if nothing important happened after *Lilies Of The Field*.
Jackie Chan and the *Rush Hour* films are some of the most successful of the past decade - and one of the few "studio produced" films with an Asian male lead. Extensive retrospectives such as the one upcoming in June need to be as inclusive as possible to be scholarly, successful and worthwhile.
There is a recent documentary on Asian-American Males in films titled *The Slanted Screen* that also looks at this history.
And here is an article / review from 2007 at The Washington Post about the film's presentation on PBS last year -
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/05/24/AR2007052402573_pf.html
This author even takes exception to the fact that an actor like Jackie Chan isn't even "Asian-American" because he was born in Hong Kong and, I believe is still a resident of there.
Personally, I'd rather watch a Jason Scott Lee film - but I wasn't asked.

*Hey Kyle, am I remembering that right?*
*I know they ran it with the album available on a separate second audio channel.*
Yes. I am trying to figure out exactly what year it might have been. I believe it was the second or third year of presenting *The Wizard Of Oz* on TCM during the Fourth Of July Weekend. I am guessing that would be about 2002 or 2003.

Yes it has.
And, yes there is - always has been. Just "untic" the little box (click on the checkmark) above the "editted" message line. (I editted this message to add these instructions.)
Not since the shooting of Liberty Valance has there been such a rewriting of history.

Did you see the Dietrich *Song Of Songs* posted to this thread a while back?
Also, see this thread from last year. It was my first dabbling at posting poster images. I think you will enjoy it. (See posts for March 25th.)

One of these days I'll get around to posting these same images in this thread.

You're gonna be holed up in your den alot this summer, aren't ya?
"C'mon, Honey. Lunch is ready"
"In a minute. Stanley is eating the wax fruit."
"Honey? Lunch!"
"Be right there. Oliver is about to fall into the rain barrel."
"Are coming or not?"
"Honeybunch, can I have lunch in the den today? *Saps At Sea* is starting"
I hope Mrs. Movieman doesn't put any alum in the grilled cheese.

I'm not so sure. The titles at 8pm/5pm each Sunday certainly seem "family-friendly".
*National Velvet* - June 1^st^
*20 Million Miles To Earth* - June 8^th^
*The Courtship Of Eddie's Father* - June 15^th^
*Mutiny On The Bounty* - June 22^nd^
*Harvey* - June 29^th^
Of those, only *Bounty* seems a "surprising" choice for presentation on "Funday Night" - but I could see it being included. I guess we'll find out as June approaches.

Hello 'marcco44' -
I am pleased you like the Dietrich poster and find it special.
Off the top of my head, I know for certain of two color Jean Harlow poster on my hard drive. One is a lesser quality "photograph" poster and the other is an "artwork" poster including a stylized portrait of Jean Harlow. Neither is as dramatic the Dietrich poster. I may have the chance to pop one up later in the week. OK?

Thank you for that detail. I was aware of that incident - but didn't see it first hand. It sounds as if I mis-spoke then in regard to the removal of the image. I claimed TCM took it down but it sounds like the OP took it down at your behest. (Nice job!) Not that it matters, didn't this occur before the creation of the "Fanatic" thread?
And would I be wrong to observe that said poster no longer seems to post here anymore?

*"If kids don't belong here, Time Warner or TCM should post a warning to that effect."*
I am sincerely curious (as are some others that I have had contact with) what has occured in the Forums that was _not_ "kid-friendly". There have been references to posts and messages but no specific citations. This vagueness leaves me scratching my head. And it is hindering my ability to understand your concern.
I'd also like to know what ages you have in mind when using the term "kid".

*"When abusive language and posts are allowed against minors and impressionable children, I draw the line "*
*"We need a SWAT Team Here..."*
Yesterday I asked what was going on around here of which I may not be aware. I got reply about someone's "dissing" of a region of the country. That was it. But it certainly was made to sound much worse.
I was expecting anarchy, chaos or, even worse, *Dogs And Cats Living Together* ! Horrors!
Everything that has happened in here is "nickle and dime" stuff. I am "seasoned campaigner" when it comes to the Forum Wars. And compared to *"Hanoi Jane Fonda"* , *"Screened Out"* , *"Fire Tom Karsch"* or even *"Rob Zombie"* , the past seven days have been _kid stuff_ (pun intended.)
And worse, according to some, it was all TCM's fault. Well, isn't that something. Somehow TCM has been negligent in how they administer their Forums. That's choice. Because, from simple observation, I know that not to be the case.
In the past weeks, I think four (or more?) members have gotten the boot for inappropriate posting behavior. I know truly outrageous messages have been taken down - including images of nudity. Just today a "food fight" was removed from another thread in these Forums. And I know that TCM stepped in to accomodate an invalid poster who was subjected to unfounded harrassment. That doesn't sound like TCM is being irresponsible or negligent to this community.
I have not seen or read anything that should have offended anyone over the age of 12. For one, these Forums have a language filter that replaces offensive language with asterisks. I hope no one here is offended by asterisks. (Personally, I prefer the marks used in the funny papers. So much more fun.)
I also don't believe that a wry or dismissive remark is the same as an insult. Yet it sounds as if some members are asking to be protected from _sarcasm_. for goodness sake. If that level of discourse is verboten, then these Forums weill be as interesting and sanitary as those for The Disney Channel.
12 year olds may not have developed sophisticated defense mechanisms to cope with disagreements or challenges to their thinking - but if they have access to a computer, they should know how to use the "Ignore Button". I also fully expect adults to have developed methods to deal with such situations. They should be capable to implement those mechanisms for themselves and not expect an ever-present God-figure from TCM to protect them from discourse that upsets them.
All this hub-bub seems to have been a reaction to a single thread begun last Friday about a member of this community. Was it offensive to many people? Yes. And with good reason - especially to the person about which it was posted. I was the first person to reply to the Original Poster. As a friend of the injured party, I wasn't going to let the comment go unanswered. As a member in good standing of this community, that was _my_ responsiblity. And many others found it their responsiblity to answer also. It had been a long time that this community reacted as one in the defense and friendship of one of our own. It was long overdue and an experience of which all those that acted similarly should be proud.
But I didn't believe that the _topic_ was so egregious or unacceptable that it should be removed or censored. The subject of the Original Post is a member of this community and deserved to be defended but this member also happens to be, albeit in a small way, a "TCM Personality". And as such, this person and the promo are a legitimate topic for discussion. As much as Robert Osborne or Ben Mankiewicz are legitimate topics, Tom Karsch or 'tcmprogrammr', or Rose McGowan, Carrie Fisher and Molly Haskell are also. And each of them have had some pretty shocking things said about themselves in here. They are "gay", a "lush", a unqualified "legacy" choice, a "hunchback", a know-nothing, "dressed like a hooker"... Well, you get the idea. I don't know any of the other personalities on TCM but the one I do know I defended and supported to the best of my ability in the face of a very impolite rant of a thread.
That's the real problem I have with this movement to have everything in these Forums "screened". This situation was confined to one thread on a Message Board with Multiple Forums (How many Genre Forums are there?) and unlimited threads for discussion. (The unlimitedness of these Message Boards is what makes them attractive to me and many others. If one doesn't like a topic, there are dozens of others to read. And if that isn't interesting, one can start their own thread. What a luxury.) A flame war in a single thread has somehow been characterized as an all-encompassing conflagration that is supposedly reflective of this entire community - and of TCM! And it is a bad reflection at that.
From what I can see, that is not the case. This community deserves more credit and respect than that. Civil discussion is the norm and not the exception. Most members enjoy the company of (most of) the others they meet here. Or at the very least they tolerate the presence of the others with whom they often disagree. Yet sometimes it is like a family get-together at the Holidays. "It's not the Holidays until a fight breaks out." And fights will break out. Members get on one another's nerves. But they are not that common, they seldomly involve more than two people and they are typically isolated and do not spread across the entire Message Board System.
This is not a completely dysfunctional community that needs imposed moderation or an intervention from Corporate Headquarters. That is one gross exaggeration and over-reaction to what is a fairly common occurence in an online gathering place. It is a very poor representaion of what goes on here and one that unfairly targets the persons of TCM that are our hosts. In fact, I find the whole situation utterly dishonest.
I just wanted to express my honest thoughts before the opportunity is taken away from me.

Ahh... Is that like being in the rough? Or should you be in the Cross-Dressers thread?
Personally, as long as you are going to be up half the night, why not watch *Battleship Potemkin* ? There's nothing too interesting going on in here tonight.
And, well, *Harvey* is a fine film but... it isn't the seminal film that *Battleship Potemkin* is. And no one will call you a poser for not having seen *Harvey* . Even the "Coop Girls" would have to give you that.

*The Remains Of The Day* . Wonderful film. (The scene with Emma Thompson, Hopkins and his book is unforgettable.

That's the only one I am familiar with - but, then again, I used to own an "insert poster" (14" x 36") of that image. It was really effective in that long and thin format. (And much more appealing than the artwork that was used on the cover of the soundtrack album.)
Oh, and most importantly, "You're Welcome".
