"...I've had a sudden urge to do some union organizing."
Glad you took my comment with the humor with which it was intended.

"Welcome comrade."
and then there were posts from Russian websites this week.
Fred. Are you feeling OK?
I suddenly feel like I am in an episode of "I Was A Communist For The FBI".

Has anyone ever seen Zastihla mě noc (1986)? Was it ever shown outside of the Czech Republic? Or are we just supposed to take the filmmaker's word for it?
Secondly, if the scene is "lifted" from someone's else's film, then I would guess it is Steven Zallian that woulld have some explaining to do. It was his screenplay. (And if it is in the movie, it is in the script - regardless of what Mr. Herz says.)
Copyright matters such as these are nearly impossible to prove. But it happens on occasion - though I still don't understand how the song "My Seet Lord" is an infringement of "He's So Fine".

I respect your desire to be clear and concise. If I thought my "snipping" alterred the gist of your message, I wouldn't have done it. I dislike deliberate dishonesty in discussions. (I didn't mean to be that alliterate.)
You made yourself very clear in your post. I was only expressing my belief that there have always been "provocateurs' in our midst - regardless of what is playing on TCM and what "names" (new or not) are attached to the posts.

"Don't snip my quotes."
I only did it because it was superfluous to the point I wanted to make. I knew you weren't referring to Kim before - even withoout the disclaimer - and I am sure she would too. I certainly would tell her so.
And. for me, "punks" in the 1950s sense of the word has a James Baldwin definition that isn't very nice but I knew you didn't mean that either.

"This new wave of punks come around just about every time TCM airs a series of modern non-classic films, especially ones with cursing in them."
Fred, the "punks" - in one name or another - have always been with us. It isn't as cyclical a development as you think.

If you know what "Claire De Lune" sounds like, then I will bet you are right. I was thinking it might be "Claire De Lune" but it was a less than certain guess on my part.
And it was a very convoluted path I was taking to get to "Claire De Lune". After hearing it a second time, I was thinking I had heard Victor Borge play the piece in a television special. And I also thought I remembered Borge playing "Claire De Lune". But I couldn't definitively put the two together.
Thanks for your help!

"At least they'll show one! LOL."
But you can add The Hustler to the list too.
This lack of Fox "Essentials"seems to be due to 20th Century Fox's reluctance to lease their films to TCM for long periods of time (months). The Essentials usually requires a repeat showing four to five months after the original presentation. Very few Fox films are available to TCM that long - but there are some exceptions - notably The Longest Day, The Diary Of Anne Frank and The Hustler. But most Fox film presentations on TCM are quick "hit and run" events like the "Ford At Fox" event this past November. Other titles in that category include The King And I, The Seven-Year Itch and How To Marry A Millionaire.
I am sure everyone would like to see Laura or The Grapes Of Wrath as part of "The Essentials". That they haven't had that honor is likely not the fault of TCM.
But with All About Eve making the list this year should give one hope that there are more to come.

"The classic films shown in the early morning hours of the 21st and in the early afternoon – which were part of the MLK day salute – should have been shown more in prime time on that particular day..."
TCM has "Been there. Done That" many times before during past MLK Days or - in "pre-31 Days..." Februarys - when the channel would spotlight such films in Primetime every week for "Black History Month". Such predictable repetition becomes boring - like posters who feel threatened by anything new.

Sorry you are missing Body And Soul. Hopefully it is going into a more frequent rotation on TCM and shows up again soon.

Happy to know I found an image "new" to you. I think it is Swedish but unsure. Any idea what language would spell 'masterwork" as "masterwerk" with a little circle above the letter "a"?

"I'm so tired of the carping everytime TCM broadcasts something that doesn't fit somebody's particular brand. In fact I'm tired of the negativism expressed on this board." - Terry_W
I agree. The "CQ" (Curmudgeon Quotient) around here is getting way too high.

If you haven't already found it, the "Shorts" Genre Forum would be the best place for your question.
But TCM doesn't directly sell any films - or shorts. And I don't know of any compilations discs of James FitzPatricks "TravelTalks" but perhaps the folks in the Genre Forum know better. They are a pretty amazing group down there.
To find the "Shorts" Genre Forum is found below this one. Just keep scrolling down on the Main Forum Page.

OK. Disregard all those suggestions below.
I caught the Reynolds piece again this morning and the music used is none of the pieces I thought it was. It sounded so very familiar to me the other night when I first heard it that I thought the piece was on a certain disc I own. Each of the titles I suggested are on that disc. While each of those is similar, none are the exact piece used in the TCM promo.
Sorry for the error. But I believe the piece is from a composer of the same era. A different Debussy piece perhaps?

I can't remember any either. I think I would have been shocked if I had seen an '80s movie on TCM during the first 5 or 6 years. - FredCDobbs
