*"The Texan" has a sort of "Brokeback Mountain" vibe."* - joefilmone
Now that you mention it....

*"Kyle, your Western Stars series is simply superlative."* - CineramaRick
Thanks. And the series has just begun.
*"They're all so beautiful with Ride 'Em High being a real standout. Wow, the incredible detail and color. It's just stunning."*
Glad you think highly of it too. Even though no one seems to know Buddy Roosevelt, there was just no way I was leaving that image out of the series.
*"I've had a real stressful, hideous day and I can't tell you what a pleasure and release it is to come home and see your gorgeous images."*
I guess there is some theraputic value to these, huh? In that case, here's a link to last August's special SUTS Gallery -
http://forums.tcm.com/message.jspa?messageID=8431268#8431268
where you'll find a lot more eye-candy and some interesting discussions too. I hope it helps you recover from your bad day.
Your continued praise is most thoughtful. I appreciate it greatly.

*"I find the artwork on almost all these cowboy posters so evocative and nostalgic for a past we never lived through."* - Bronxgirl48
For that era of the west or that era of filmmaking?
I am just amazed at the level of artistic talent that created these "disposable" items. And I am very happy that some people held on to them all these years later.
*"Oh, heaven help me, lol, but I can't tell which one is Tom in THE TEXAN poster!"*
*The Texan* was, I think, Tom Mix's film debut. And he is standing alone on the right side of the poster. Mix looks different from one poster to the next. And often it is not a very good likeness. Just a big, round, smiling face.

*"It made me a tad homesick. How's that song go: "makin' the San Fernando Valley my home!"* - lzcutter
Oh. And here I thought the sight of what appears to be a Busby Berkeley-esque musical number with large California Oranges would make you smile.
Isn't time for Mr. Cutter's visit?

No Fair! I was already composing my message when you posted but I was delayed with gettting the links I included.

Here's the full schedule for the month -

where you can look for the "good stuff".
And if you want to peruse the schedule in a more entertaining way, go here -
The SUTS microsite is a lot of fun.

*"Some of these names are unfamiliar to me -- Buddy Roosevelt, Bob Custer..."* - Bronxgirl48
Me too.
Bob Custer (in a different poster) did make it into last August's series on "Silent Faces". But I have never come across another poster for Buddy Roosevelt. And I looked at alot of them over the past few weeks.
I do think the artwork in *Ride "Em High* is beautiful. I really like that impressionist style. Plus the "drama" contained in the image is really neat too.

I made an edit / change to tonight's posting when I saw that *Prairie Trails* was a sequel to *The Texan*. (I didn't read too closely.)
I had origninally planned to post the poster for *The Texan* later in the month but thought it best to post the two images together.
Sorry if these edits created any confusion.

I will.
But being (somewhat) responsible for all this swooning is a heavy burden.

Yep. You're right.

*"Oh Chief!!!! George O'Brien and Harry Carey and all this beautiful artwork! A million and one thanks!!!!"* - lzcutter
You're welcome. I understand the love for O'Brien and Carey - but I really thought you'd take to the poster for *San Fernando Valley* too.

*"OMG! Those are gorgeous ! George O'Brien AND Tom Tyler..."* - JackFavell
I didn't know those two cowboys had a "fan club" around here.
I think you and "Bronxie" better start that "aspirin regimen" I hear about. The two of you might have multiple heart attacks this August.

*"...you're just another one that can't stand to hear/read something you don't agree with, and will try with all your might to shut somebody up for saying something you don't like. Again, political correctness rears its ugly head."* - jr#####
No one is trying to shut you up or imposing a "PC" mentality on you or on these Forums. If your impression is that Ben Mankiewicz is a "Hollywood Party Monster", so be it.
In the past, others have written comments about Ben Mankiewicz that included terms like "smug", "smarmy", "condescending" and "arrogant". Many viewers just didn't like Ben's "ironic" attitude. People here disagreed with that "impression" but didn't dispute that reaction as Ben could come across that way on occasion.
I was one that had a hard time with his some of his comments as they sometimes seemed to "mock" the material he was presenting. To hear it on a channel devoted to celebrating "classic film", it came across as being dismissive of the film and disrespectful to those that had just watched it. Sarcasm is seldom gentle and often misunderstood.
While some folks haven't forgotten "the ironic (or sarcastic) Ben Mankiewicz", he really has moved on from that persona. I don't remember the last time I heard a sarcastic remark come from his mouth. Or maybe I am no longer sensitive to it. Either way, labelling Ben "smug" wouldn't generate much of a response in here and few would dispute those "impressions" as we have all seen the "sarcastic Ben.".
But your post went far beyond that description in terms that no one here believes are remotely reasonable. Nor are they appropriate to make about a public figure whom one has never met. Choose your words more carefully the next time.
Having had the intelligence to abandon the TMZ television program in the first weeks of its existence tells me that Ben's head is screwed on straight. And I firmly stand by that impression.

*"Ben is hardly a boy--he's in his 40's..."* - helenbaby
You're right. I didn't mean to deman him with the term. I was only hoping to invoke all those traits that are found in that phrase. I could have called him a mensch but that didn't seem accurate.

*"It's odd to find a cowboy who has no chin."* - JackFavell
So THAT'S why it is odd looking. Now I see it - or rather, don't see it.
I think the Wm S. Hart image is a beautiful example of silkscreening. I wonder what the movie was about.

*"Kyle, those Western posters are so gorgeous! Tom Mix is looking particularly attractive."* - Bronxgirl48
I am so glad you are enjoying them. And you will see a lot of Tom Mix during the month.
*"Who's the cowboy on the horse (with the girl) in the blue Summer Under The Lights poster? He's very cute."*
That's Richard Arlen. And that poster will appear in an unadulterated form as the climax to this month's postings.

*"hlywdkjk, i never said that Ben IS that way,i said that's how he strikes me,that's the IMPRESSION i have always gotten from him."* - jr#####
Oh, I understand. But the specificity of traits you listed are difficult - if not impossible - to ascertain from watching the man on television. So what could possibly give you that "impression"? And in such detail too?
You could have just said that your impression of him was of that of a Hollywood Party-boy. That covers the same ground without attributing the outrageous behaviors to him - even in your indirect way. Including them in the manner you did appears to me to be a sideways attempt at character assassination.
Personally, my impression of Ben Mankiewicz is that "he's a nice Jewish boy."

*"I'm convinced there's a blog or website or something out there in the netverse that is driving all this hateful traffic."* - helenbaby
It's possible.
If memory serves, the OP was in the middle of the "manufactured outrage" a while back over Ben's commentary for *A Face In The Crowd* which was part of TCM's "Now Playing: The Show" program. Of course, it appeared that none of the irate ones had actually seen (or read) what Ben said. They were only parroting an agenda-driven blogger's misguided reaction to Ben's comments.
If it is being driven by a fringe group, it is difficult to determine the source. In the age of Twitter, Text Messaging and Private Facebook walls, a lot of communicating can be done "off the web". I tried to find an online source for some of the traffic that arrived last month but couldn't come up with one.
Hopefully they'll take their games elsewhere. Soon.

*"Have you found any posters of John Wayne and Duke, another movie horse more famous than his human star (at the time)?"* - JackFavell
Are you sure that isn't "Duke" in the image posted along with the Gene Autry poster today? (I guess that really doesn't look like Wayne so it might not really be "Duke" either.)
"Duke" just might make an appearance yet this month. In the meantime, here's a link to a set of John Wayne posters that were added to the Gallery in May, 2010.
