*"BOTTOM LINE: The dude takes money away from acquiring new films and preserving films-"* - JG
Apples and Oranges. There is no evidence that one has any relation with the other.
Conjecture on how and where TCM spends its revenue is foolish as no one here has the slightest idea of how TCM allocates its budget or the costs involved with any investment the channel makes.

Re: the OP -
I wouldn't even know where to begin. So I'll just leave it at "Thanks for sharing."
But I would be interested to learn which "members" you think are Ben's "aliases on this board."

*"I love the Chip of the Flying U poster!"* - JackFavell
Good! It is one of the most unique posters I've ever seen. I guess the book must have been popular for it to have been featured in such a prominent manner.
But I do think Hoot Gibson is one of the most "odd" looking men I have ever seen.

*"Wowsa.. I just came across these (have not taken the chance to pop in here for a few days..) and now I am on the edge of my seat!"* - rohanaka
Yea! It is always nice to know that my choices can create some excitement. Thanks.
*"What a gorgeous start you are off to, sir. Many thanks."*
You're welcome.
The first postings have featured "portrait" images of the "Stars" who will be prominent in most of the subsequent postings. Most are well known but some aren't. At least they weren't known to me. But they certainly were treated beautifully in their posters.
*"I Iove some of the titles on some of these early ones.. "Boots... of.... Destiny!!!!!!!!!!!!"*
I agree whole-heartedly - though I am partial to the taglines that are included.
"A gun-totin', broncho-bustin', gal-tamin' buckaroo!"
Gotta love it.

*"aren't you gonna give us any for SUTS?"* - mr6666
Not this year.
"SUTS" is difficult to celebrate _if_ I am unable to find interesting and "new-to-the-Gallery" images featuring the month's honorees. While I have posters that fit that criteria for about half of the featured Stars for 2011, that still left over a dozen for whom I couldn't do "justice". So I went in a different direction again this year.
Last year I turned over the Gallery to the extraordinary portrait artwork prevalent in the Silent Era. It turned out to be a very popular series of posters. This year I've chosen to continue that emphisis on stand-out artwork with a look at the posters created for some of the most famous movie cowboys. These images cover the the 1910s to the 1940s.
What is most interesting about these posters is that they primarily came from Poverty Row studios. The films represented were seldom exceptional. But the artwork is stunning. The movies may have looked cheap but you can't say that about the posters.
I hope you will enjoy this special series. It took a lot of time and effort to gather and arrange these postings for the Gallery. With the likelihood that the TCM schedule would never offer the opportunity to showcase these posters, I decided "SUTS" month would be a perfect time to focus on these "Western Stars" and the incredible posters made for their films.

Thanks!
Believe me. No one will go wanting before the end of the month. There are lots.

*"Nice artwork, sir,"* - smileys
Thank you, pal.
*"...and incredibly beautiful posters, too. Almost makes me want to actually watch a western."* - smileys
Whoa! The heat must be getting to you.
You should be watching *The Rainmaker* once a day "for the duration."
I hope my Gallery selections for the month continue to please and impress.

*"Of course, it might have been the other way around, and the term "K&A" originated through the Mix movie. I dunno."* - VP19
I didn't know about the "K & A" and Philadelphia connection. Thanks.
As there seems to have never been a "K & A Railway" (I googled.), maybe the writer was from Philadelphia and chose that name as an "inside joke".

*"These are really gorgeous, Kyle - I love the shadows that make the faces look like they were carved out of rock."* - JackFavell
Very "statue-esque". There's no doubt that these men were heroes and these posters contribute to that idea.

Well, I didn't expect to see Ben in "his loft" tonight. What a great surprise. Kudos to TCM for making that choice.

*"I watched this today On Demand. It was...interesting. It's almost 3 hours and quite avant-garde. It's not at all like the Bud Greenspan films."* - helenbaby
Lucky you. Time-Waner cable in LA isn't offering *Tokyo Olympiad*. The selection of TCM films available "On Demand" has been very poor for about a year now. It is often just six or seven "sad" titles - though the listing does include *Sitting Pretty right now. That's notable.

*" but I've seen a lot of Shaheen's films, and have seen ZERO "righteous indignation."* - VX
Me either.
I am lost as to "who" some people think they saw on TCM in July. It's like some folks saw a man that was equal parts Andrea Dworkin, Louis Farrakhan and Pat Robertson.
And "Happy Ramadan" to those of the Islamic faith. The month-long observance began last evening/today.

*"He films his weekend intro/outros in Atlanta so I'm assuming he will do this month's intros/outros in Atlanta as well."* - helenbaby
The BIG question is "Will Ben be on "Robert's Set" or on "Ben's Set"?"
I am guessing he will be on the traditional evening set - fireplace and all. But it might have been cool to see "Ben's Loft" re-lit to give the effect of it being night instead of the bright, daytime look that his set always has.
And I fully expect some of Ben's humor about being there on that set to occassionally creep into his intros all month. At least I hope TCM lets Ben be Ben even in such an unexpected situation and his new surroundings.

Glad to know 'classicstarletsfan' is still on top of posting the direct link to the upcoming schedule when it becomes available. One can also use this link -
http://www.tcm.com/schedule/october2011.html
which includes a special message from the TCM website staff.
Lots of the "good stuff" for the month has already been discussed in other threads but the big "Whoa!" moment for me - the animated *Heavy Metal* (1981) in a "TCM Underground" slot. Now that's interesting. And I guess I'll have to give "Italian Neo-realism" films another try.

*"These are great, Kyle!!"* - Minya
Thanks ladies!
Yes, I have been stricken with my personal form of OCD - Obsessive Creative Disorder - and made the special promo "posters" for the Gallery SUTS project. I have one more to post. Then the really "good stuff" begins.
I am so glad you let me know you like them.

Why is TCM allowing Ben Mankiewicz to ruin the channel?

Well, that's one of the ugliest comments that I've ever read here. But you weren't _trying_ to be "hateful". Obviously it comes easy to you.
