  1. *"Is it my imagination or does "users" sound drug related? Can't it be 18 " forum member(s)"?"*

I get where you're coming from.

"Users" refers to the number of registered members logged-in at that current moment. "Guests" are members who haven't logged-in or have "logged off" or were "forced off" for prolonged inactivity but who may still be "around" the Forums..

I think the number of "Guests" will revert back to "zero" or close to it at midnight.

Now I gotta go get my works...

  2. 7:00am Sunday

I just checked the monthly schedule page and the links to the various other timezones worked and displayed the schedule with the appropriate times. (But I know they were inoperable before.)

Plus, the link to the monthly Canadian version of the page worked also.

But I don't understand the "font size" issue. Is this a problem on the "Monthly Schedule" page or on the "Daily Schedule" pages?

  3. jorjenzo -

You need to find an admin contact at games com. It is usually found at a "Contact Us" link somewhere on the site's homepage.

No one here at the TCM/Turner website can help you with the error message you are seeing. TCM/Turner has no affiliation with gamescom.

  4. I branched off one post from one of the Race In Hollywood threads and then moved it to Mod Review. It was just one big, messy blow-up waiting to happen.

    Member name - TerryEllsworth

He/She put Obama, Islam, Terrorism and Police Tactics all into one post. That was quiite the feat.

This one has been rather combative and intentionally provocative for awhile now.

Also, I see a new member has registered with the handle -

    Not-Liberal-a-gaga

    ID - 133714

Something tells me that this will be one to keep an eye on.

  5. *"According to some sources, Shaheen is a native of Pittsburgh, and his parents are from Lebanon."* - c.bogle

I am getting old but I could swear that on Tuesday night I heard him say he was a Christian of Egyptian heritage. In fact, he spoke of how surprised some are when they learn that he, who has written so extensively about Arab/Moslem stereotypes, is a Christian.

Of course, his Egyptian parents could certainly have lived in Lebanon at some point too.

But I don't think he implied that he was born overseas.

  6. *"I knew Lebanese and Syrian Arab immigrants decades ago and they didn't complain about anything. (...) I married one of their daughters."* - FCD

Gosh Fred. You married a belly dancer? How lucky for you. Oh. She didn't/couldn't belly dance? But that's not what I learned from the movies. In the movies all Middle Eastern women can belly dance. I guess it was just a prevalent stereotype, huh?

And Professor Shaheen pointing out such stereotypes in 2011 is far from "complaining".

But I love the story of your one-man State Department "Good Neighbor" policy. Perhaps you could restart that program - beginning in Ciudad Juarez.

  7. *"You can find Powell without his moustache in "Love Crazy" where he tries to pass himself off as his sister."* - movieman1957

    Thanks!

Just curious. Does the moustache "miraculously" reappear the next time he is seen in male attire in the movie? While seeing Powell moustache-free when in drag would be necessary for the illusion, it would be jarring to see him without it when he's wearing a suit.

  8. *" How would they handle having the introduction and exit from a movie which they could not rent?"* - SansFin

TCM plans film rentals/acquisitions far in advance to ensure there are no issues like the one you mention. And Guest Programmer evenings can likely be re-arranged during the year if potential conflicts might exist. If TCM can present *Touch Of Evil* in June but not in May, then Chris Isaak's evening as Guest Programmer will be that month rather than the other.

Plus, as a few of the members here can attest, Guest Programmers are asked to provide a list of numerous potential titles that they would like to present and TCM will narrow it down to the four titles for presentation during their evening. This helps ensure that TCM will have access to those titles for a particular month.

  9. *"After reading all the post I like to point out something, not everyone in the Middle East is Arab."* - hamradio

You're correct. And I bet Professor Shaheen, as a Christian of Egyptian heritage, would be the first to agree with you too. But it is not a distinction that was made by the film studios so, when looking at the images the studios produced, you almost have to use their "definition" of the term.

TCM looked at Asian Images a few years ago - but completely avoided images from the vast majority of that continent - especially India - while including "Pacific Islanders" (among others) in the line-up.

I think the use of "Arab" for all these nationalities is just some expedient shorthand on TCM's part. And even for Professor Shaheen.

  10. *"I believe I remember reading somewhere that all of the introductions, Essentials and the Guest Programmer are all taped during two days."* - SansFin

Things have gotten a bit jumbled up in your description.

All the intros for a full season of "The Essentials" are taped over two days, typically in the fall.

"Guest Programmer Nights" can be taped in NYC or LA along with being in done in Atlanta. A few years ago RO recorded about a half a dozen upcoming guest programmers the week before the Oscars when he was in LA for the awards ceremony. I think a half day may be set aside to record these special evenings and they can be done many months in advance.

Otherwise RO typically spends two days a month in Atlanta recording the intros/outros for the standard, monthly TCM line-ups. But the addition of "Now Playing: The Show" to his schedule each month may have added an extra day to his time in Atlanta.

But it wouldn't surprise me if some commentaries get jettisoned from his recording schedule if things are running long.
