  2. *"My brother and I did play the game on Friday night. It's mostly a "gathering clues and interrogation" game, thus far. The suspects sometimes take off and you have to chase them down."* - FrankGrimes Gee. Your trigger finger must be getting awfully itchy. Love that "Roy Earle" is referenced in the game. You'll have to let us know of any other homages that show up and if recognising them helps with solving the mystery. Kyle In Hollywood

  5. *gorgeous!* - JackFavell *Beautiful!* - CineramaRick I agree. And to think I almost passed it over because I thought I had already posted it to the Gallery. I find I am second-guessing myself in that way quite often lately. I've been looking at the images on my computer for so long that I think I've used them in here already. Glad I thought differently today. Glad you appreciated the one for today. Kyle In Hollywood
  6. *...my sister-in-law just got my brother the game for an early Father's Day gift, so we're actually getting together tonight to play it."* - FG How Cool Is That?!? I am sure you'll have fun, Inspector Grimes. Keep your rod at the ready, OK? Try not to let the Chief Of Detectives hassle you too much. And am I mistaken or is this the sedan from The Postman Always Rings Twice? Sure looks like it - only a bit "messier". Kyle In Hollywood
  7. *"Also, I am absolutely appalled by the endless SELL SELL SELL mentality which now exists on this supposed "commercial free" network. If trying to sell a DVD at the end of EVERY FILM and the non stop badgering to "Buy Film Festival Tickets, Buy Cruise Tickets, Buy the Movies Unlimited Video Catalogue, Buy Now Playing, Buy DVDs, etc. etc. etc. do not constitute commercials, I don't know what does."* - lydecker Well, get over it. They are here to stay. Plus, there are so few during the full day that it isn't really worth griping about. Most cable channels offer over 10 minutes of ads during one hour of programming. It's these internal pitches for TCM-related merchandise and other offers which are keeping sponsored-ad time off the channel. *"Why are we letting these people print schedules when, if we make them impossible to find and print, we can SELL more "Now Playing" guides?? Why, that would mean more $$$$ in our pockets."* I accept that cynicism isall the rage these days. But if TCM wanted to sell more subscriptions to Now Playing, it would take the printable schedule down altogether. Even if it that was the case, selling an additional 10,000 subscriptions to Now Playing wouldn't amount to a truly large sum of additional revenue. It is definitely not worth the ill-will that would be created from taking down the printable monthly schedule from the website. That said, one should really consider becoming a subscriber if only to support TCM and its "commercial-free" mission. Plus the magazine is worth the $12.95 many times over. It is not difficult to find the monthly printable schedule. It is in the banner at the top of the page like it was before. And using my browser's "Print Preview" option, it shows that the full schedule for May will print on 29 pages. If I adjusted the top and bottom margins, I could probably save an additional page or two. If you are needing 60 pages to print the month's schedule, then you need to research how to adjust your set-up. There is definitely a problem on your end and not with the printable page. 8. *"Then I see this coming Saturday The Essential movie is "Cat People" a B movie and while I have a certain place in my heart for "B" movies. To say this movie is one of the Essentials and obviously "the great movie "Fountainhead" is not."* - BuccaneerMoe Comparing two specific movies is like comparing a Rembrandt to a Van Gogh and asking which is best. Can't be done. But to learn what TCM thinks is Essential about *Cat People* you can go here - http://www.tcm.com/this-month/article/355267%7C363101/Cat-People.html?mview=exp Kyle In Hollywood
  9. Friday, May 20th *The Spirit Of St. Louis* (1957) Denmark
  10. Took a drive around my metropolis the other day. I lost track of time and found myself downtown after dark. A place I don't usually go. I came across a crime scene in an alley. Poor thing. I wondered what had happened but I didn't hang around to find out. I decided to get a beer instead. But I've been wondering every day what was the story about the young lady and her ignoble demise. So I thought I'd ask Inspector Grimes. What happened in the alley the other night and, better yet, how did _you_ end up in LA the other "Noire"? In 1947 yet? Kyle (Gotta Your Copy Yet?) In Hollywood
  11. *"Kyle, I'm curious about the movie titles accompanying the photos. For instance, the Judy Garland shot reads "Girl Crazy", but the photo looks a few years previous to that movie. Ginger's picture looks circa 1940, rather than 1933 or 1937. Are these just some movies for which they signed the wet cement, but not necessarily the actual photo of the named event?"* I feared that might be confusing. The titles accompanying the cement photos are of films that were being shown at the Film Festival this year and not of the premiere when they were having their hand and foot prints put into the cement. The Judy Garland ceremony took place during the premiere of *Babes In Arms*. Ginger Rogers was for *Kitty Foyle* (I think). The ceremony with Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell was for *Gentlemen Prefer Blondes*. Sorry it was confusing. Kyle In Hollywood

  13. I am only putting up --one name and title for 2012.-- three titles. *Deliverance* with Burt Reynolds in attendance. *The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming* (take your pick of cast members.) And Carl Reiner speaking about *Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid* might be interesting. Kyle In Hollywood Edited by: hlywdkjk on May 17, 2011 9:35 PM
  14. *"You need not worry about this particular printing problem (in fact, about most of these schedule-related problems) for much longer. Rest assured that I am going to hold some feet to the fire to make sure that this matter is taken care of. There will be no more false promises of "fixit" and then run and hide without any public accountability, right here in this forum! We have put up with this unaccountable nonsense for far too long! So hang on (to what would be your hat in the olden days) for what promises to be a rough ride for somebody."* - --O_IS_D-- O__IS_D I read this as a threat to act in a nefarious (or worse?) manner in these Forums. You may wish to take it down. Kyle In Hollywood
  15. *" Before the site changes, the links were under "Full TCM Schedule," up at the top, with options to print a full month - this month, next month, month after that. Can you please ask them to reinstall links for those upcoming months? Thanks!"* - VX Hi VX. OK. So I was mistaken. You remember such links to the full-month pages being there in the past. I am sure that returning them will be an easy addition. Kyle In Hollywood
  16. "3 MONTH SCHEDULE - Available by month through the dropdown menu (calendar) on the Schedule" *"Is anyone able to find this fix?"* - MovieMadness MM - Before the "upgrade", was one able to access the full-month page of listings for upcoming months through the daily schedule page? I don't remember as I never accessed them through that area. I do remember tabs for upcoming months' _daily_ schedules that displayed daily listings for the coming months - but not for the full-month page. I've always accessed upcoming full-month listings through an adapted webpage address. Otherwise, the three-month schedule _is_ available - by day only - through the drop-down calendar menu. This is just as it was before. If you are looking for a link to the full-month page for June or July, it isn't there. And I am not sure it was there on the schedule page before the recent site changes. Let me know if I am mistaken. Kyle In Hollywood

  20. TCM has always removed past month's schedules from the site. I don't know why. I know there are other sites on the internet that archive the TCM schedules so maybe a Google search will find that one missing month for you. Or perhaps someone else here knows one of the sites that does have it. Kyle In Hollywood
  21. *" But to repeat, where are the June and July one-month schedules? If not by clicking on the "month schedule", is there a link which leads to these non-May schedules? If so, it is not at all obvious. But perhaps I am just too old to see it."* - O_Is_D There is no link on the Schedule pages to the full month schedules for future months that I can see. But here are links you can use... June Schedule - http://www.tcm.com/schedule/monthly.html?tz=pst&sdate=2011-06-01# July Schedule - http://www.tcm.com/schedule/monthly.html?tz=pst&sdate=2011-07-01# *"Then there is the matter that so many have been concerned with, which is the fact that a new day starts at midnight! Why do you suppose this blatant error continues to exist? It is still a problem and it has not been fixed."* I wouldn't call that an error. The TCM schedules (like all programming schedules for television stations) use the 6:00am EST as the start of a new day. And the online TCM schedules have always used this formatting. It was that way before the "upgrade" and it shouldn't be a surprise to see it continue afterwards. *"Then there is still a tiny little complaint that, at the top right of the first page of the month, it lists ET (can't seem to get rid of this thing) as the time zone (none of the other time zone designations are shown), even though my time zone is the Pacific zone, which is certainly not abbreviated as ET. Is it, Kyle? Still a problem."* Are you referring to the daily schedule page or the monthly schedule page? To change the time zone on the daily page, use the drop down list where one sees the EST in the box. (Click on the carat pointing "down".) If you are referring to the monthly schedule, then the problem lies with your browser. I have all four time zones listed in the upper right hand corner and can choose the one I want to display (if it doesn't automatically go to the Pacific Time Zone). Try going to the daily schedule page and choose PT from the drop down list. Then go to the monthly page. Often the page will remember your choice of time zone. Otherwise, you might want to open the Monthly Schedule page, let it load and then hit "refresh" to see if it brings up the page with those multiple Time Zone links available. If that doesn't fix it, then there may be a problem with compatability with your browser and the IT Dept. will have to figure out why that is. But you wrote earlier " When I click on the "month schedule", up comes the May schedule in four different time zones." so maybe it is the daily schedule you are talking about. I just went to the Daily page for June 1st and it displayed the listings in PST without my having to choose that time zone. I will question why the calendar grid that shows up when changing the daily schedule runs with Monday on the left and Sunday on the right. I've never before seen a "calendar grid" that has Monday on the far left as the first day of the week. But that's "no biggie". Kyle In Hollywood
  22. ANdyM108 - You searched everywhere but the one place you would find it - by searching the Message Boards themselves. The "TCM Programming Challenge" is a creative endeavor among many of the members of this community. It began in 2006 and has been a reccuring event here ever since. It is organized by the community and is not sanctioned by TCM - though TCM does take an interest in the results of the community's programming ideas. Many themes and premieres that were part of previous Challenge Schedules have found their way into the TCM Schedule. For a sample of what's come before, use these links so to familiarize yourself with how the Challenge operates. *IN THE BEGINNING...* _Original Programming Challenge_ http://forums.tcm.com/thread.jspa?threadID=77842&tstart=0&messageID=7781430#7781430 _Programming Challenge #2_ http://forums.tcm.com/thread.jspa?threadID=80124&tstart=0&messageID=7794350#7794350 _Programming Challenge #3_ http://forums.tcm.com/thread.jspa?threadID=86582&tstart=0&messageID=7827881#7827881 Additional Programming Challenges - _Programming Challenge #8_ http://forums.tcm.com/thread.jspa?threadID=116883&tstart=0&messageID=8013984#8013984 _Programming Challenge #12_ http://forums.tcm.com/thread.jspa?threadID=139071&tstart=0&messageID=8195957#8195957 _Programming Challenge #14_ http://forums.tcm.com/thread.jspa?threadID=148117&tstart=0&messageID=8303570#8303570 Browsing these various Challenge Threads you will see the genesis of the exercise and follow its evolution over the past five years.
