  1. Looking at the Daily and Monthly Schedule pages (using the links in the banner at the top of the page), it seems all the "problems" have been addressed and fixed. The pages display all the titles for every day, display (and retain) the correct time zone and include the one-line synopsis. Are there other schedule issues that remain? Or have the schedule problems finally been resolved? Kyle In Hollywood Edited by: hlywdkjk on May 14, 2011 6:57 AM for typos

  4. Ohhhh, I am beginning to feel really old around here. The first sign was seeing JeanSimmons as an upcoming "Star Of The Month". This is the first time in my history of watching TCM that a "SOTM" has been repeated. That made me feel like an old-timer. And now I seem to be the only one that remembers when TCM did have Viewer Request Nights. They were sporadically programmed about ten or twelve years ago. It was so long ago that viewers sent in their requests on postcards! I'm not kidding. (Still remember that Techwood Drive address.) The evenings were offered about two or three times a year. TCM also ran a "personalized" Memorial Day Weekend event that was created around requested films that were important to viewers who lived through WWII. I don't remember what year that was. A few years ago the subject of resurrecting "Viewers Request Night" came up in here with 'tcmprogrammr'. It was part of the discussion after the very first Message Board Programming Challenge which the programming department pays very close attention. At that time, 'tcmprogrammr' wrote that there was no plan to bring back those evenings as they already have a difficult time finding space in the schedule for the evenings of programming they are currently committed to presenting. But that was about five years ago now. It might be something that TCM would reconsider for the future as the channel seeks to have their viewers become more involved with the channel on a personal level. Besides, in 2011, they can do away with asking for postcard submissions. Kyle In Hollywood
  5. Scottman & JackFavell - You're both welcome. I'm glad I brought it to your attention and that The Jukebox excites you as much as it does me. I know I'll get lost in there for hours real soon. Kyle In Hollywood

  7. Because everyone in this thread should be made aware of this - if they aren't already. The National Jukebox at the Library Of Congress http://www.loc.gov/jukebox From the LATimes - "The Library of Congress is flipping a switch Tuesday that will open a large chunk of the national archive of more than 3 million music and spoken-word recordings for public online streaming as part of a new National Jukebox project, a joint venture between the library and Sony Music that will give free access to thousands of Sony-controlled recordings long out of circulation because of commercial or copyright issues." "Some of the 10,000 titles streamable at the new National Jukebox website have been unavailable for more than 100 years, a significant chunk of them because of complex laws controlling ownership of sound recordings, which did not become subject to federal copyright laws until 1972." "Among the highlights are vintage performances by celebrated classical musicians, including Enrico Caruso and Fritz Kreisler; the first blues recording, ?Livery Stable Blues,? made in 1917 by the Original Dixieland Jazz Band; a comedy skit by the Vaudeville team of Gallagher and Shean; speeches of President Teddy Roosevelt; piano performances by jazz-ragtime pioneer Eubie Blake; and music of the John Philip Sousa Band conducted by its namesake." http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/music_blog/2011/05/national-jukebox-library-congress-sony-music.html Here's one to start you off - *Ida! Sweet as Apple Cider* (1924) http://www.loc.gov/jukebox/recordings/detail/id/9908 Also checkout this page - http://www.loc.gov/jukebox/first-time-here I've read that there are even recordings of Gershwin numbers by the Paul Whiteman Orchestra available! But the site seems to be overwhelmed today. I couldn't get in earlier so be patient. Have fun! Kyle In Hollywood

  11. *"WOW, looks like Kyle is throwing one of his patented hissy fits."* - infinite1 Too funny. You've outdone yourself today. After claiming the TCM Staff were actually hired actors, picking fights over the idea of a library and accusing TCM of presenting gratuitous nudity, calling Lynn and I Klan Members is priceless. But keep it up. TCM thinks your hysteria is hysterical too. Kyle In Hollywood

  13. TCM already has the outfits. At The Vince Giordano Concert Friday Night ph: Edward M. Pio Roda TCM I am lobbying for TCM to get the "In-N-Out" Food Truck to park on the Blvd. for the entire weekend. Kyle In Hollywood Edited by: hlywdkjk on May 8, 2011 8:22 AM
  14. *"We see some things in TCM's current schedules that have raised our red flags."* And the Boogeyman in under your bed. And there is a Monster in the closet. And this is as infantile as being afraid of your own shadow - because your "concerns" are in response to phantoms of your own creation. You've been raising a ruckus about this for months and it is getting rather tiresome. If you believe it is going to happen because of corporate greed, you should be intelligent enough to know that you and no one else won't be able to stop it. In the meantime, you're just displaying the traits of a classic internet nuisance. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=concern+troll http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_(Internet) Kyle In Hollywood
  15. *"My question is why some movies - for eg: "South Pacific" when shown on TCM-USA is not shown on TCM-CANADA?? It must be some 'legal' issue, but I would hope that it's something that TCM could address. I'm sure TCM monitors this board so maybe they could explain"* - libradoll You're correct. It is a "legal issue" that keeps TCM from showing certain films in Canada when they are shown in the USA. For certain films, the discrepancy is due to other Canadian television channels having the rights to show the films at the time the film is shown in the USA. For other films it is because no one knows who holds the rights for showing the films in Canada. This is particularly true of some older films and film libraries - the most "notorious" being the films from the Hal Roach Library. No one knows who holds the Canadian rights to most of those titles. TCM has invested a lot of time into trying to discover who might be the licensee for the Roach library but to no avail. It is really a conundrum. TCM has a section in the FAQ area devoted to questions about TCM-Canada. Use the "Help" link at the bottom of this page, choose FAQ's and then "Knowledge Base." You should see a separate area about "TCM in Canada". Kyle In Hollywood
  16. Hi 'audreyforever' - Are any "WWII" films fair game? Or are you looking primarily for a combat film? If anything goes, I might suggest *Bridge On The River Kwai* or *The Great Escape*. Perhaps you might think of a "Secret Mission" film in honor of the recent events with the Navy Seals in Pakistan and show *The Guns Of Navarone* or *The Dirty Dozen*. (All are nearly three hours long though.) As to combat films, most of the "best" ones are in B&W. Of those, *Battleground* is my favorite. Kyle In Hollywood Edited by: hlywdkjk on May 7, 2011 8:14 AM

  18. *"Hi Kyle, do you think it is possible that they would create the TCM Remembers montages and bank them? I have always thought this was something that was done last minute."* - LoveFilmNoir While the TCM On-Air group that produce "TCM Remembers" promos are wizards at what they do, I don't know if even they could put together a new piece in less than 12 hours - which was the case with the Jackie Cooper spot which premiered last evening. It just seemed too fast not to have been prepared earlier for broadcast when the day arrived. But I could be wrong. Kyle In Hollywood
  19. *"When you are invited on a regular basis to TCM's board meetings and can report with certainty on anything having to do with programming, I'll bury my RED FLAGS. (U)ntil then I'll keep them at arms length when I see something that warrants waving them."* - infinite1 *"Naivety (sic) if there ever was!"* - incredibull The two of you are free to believe anything you want regarding the channel, the website or the staff of TCM. You can also ignore or try to discredit anything I write in response to the opinions you express. All I want to accomplish is making sure that a reasonable alternative to your thoughts/beliefs is provided in the Forums. I've said it often and will continue to do so - TCM is commited to their mission to showing films uncut and commercial-free from the world's film libraries. Nothing TCM has programmed recently or for the foreseeable future contradicts that commitment or demonstrates a change in operations is forthcoming. That is especially true when Time-Warner's cable outlets - including Turner Entertainment Networks - are once again among the most profitable divisions in the company. Kyle In Hollywood

  21. *"Don't tell the lady how to post. Everyone will see that these aren't spams."* - FCD Silly Fred. You give the mods too much credit. They've deleted threads just like these. And you are jumping on Lynn without cause. There really is no need for a dozen separate threads each linking back to one member's blog. An original thread that is updated as each blog-post is completed works just as well - if not better. All the member has to do is reply to her own original post. Kyle In Hollywood
  22. I saw it too. TCM must have made it a while ago and banked it. I was surprised it was ready tonight. And it is quite nice. For other photos at the above link, keep scrolling left on the "newer" link. Kyle In Hollywood
  23. I know of three Board Members that were featured in intros or outros shown on the channel over the weekend - though I don't know if their being part of this community was discussed with Robert Osborne. Kyle In Hollywood
