A Tradition Is Born - The Footprints in the Chinese Theater Forecourt "In 1926, Sid Grauman commenced work on his greatest theater to date--the Chinese Theatre. As concrete was being poured to create the sidewalk of the building, he accidentally stepped into it. Accompanied by his friends Mary Pickford and her husband Douglas Fairbanks, Sr., Grauman also encouraged them to place their feet into the cement. Later, the three recreated this fortuitous event and enshrined their footprints and signatures in concrete for the very first official "Footprints" ceremony where they remain today in the Grauman's Chinese courtyard." Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford "These original sidewalk slabs were removed in 1958 for another historic occasion--the installation of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. After being stored away from the public eye for nearly two decades, TCM is proud to present a display of three concrete slabs that are a part of the birth of this tradition." To learn more about the "discovery"of these original footprint slabs, go here - http://mimlay.com/blog1/2011/02/19/lost-and-found-original-1927-graumans-chinese-theatre-footprints/ -------------------------------- At the 2011 TCM Classic Film Festival, Peter O'Toole will be the latest honoree of having his handprints/footprints enshrined in the Forecourt of the Chinese Theater. Gunga Din: What's all the fuss about?
hlywdkjk replied to misswonderly3's topic in General Discussions
*"The last thing I want to do is open a can of worms but i doubt that I am the only woman who likes Gunga Din and understands all the sub-text going on."* - lzcutter Oops. I wasn't trying to be misogynistic. I should have written "some women". And I will also say that Men don't get alot about Women and their friendships either. Kyle In Hollywood -
Gunga Din: What's all the fuss about?
hlywdkjk replied to misswonderly3's topic in General Discussions
*"I dislike the way the three soldiers - well, two of them anyway - regard women and marriage."* - misswonderly I guessed it would come down to that. Women can't understand male friendships and are loathe to admit that they can't replace (eradicate?) the pleasures that men derive from their male friendships. Choosing a life of domesticity over the life of adventure found in the British Army? For some men, it is an easy decision to make. Fighting for the Queen is much more exciting than coming home to the wife every night - even if she is Joan Fontaine. Kyle In Hollywood -

*"...and except for a handful of dedicated Royalists, we're fairly indifferent to the Royal Family."* - misswonderly I'm sure that goes double for the Quebec-ers. Kyle (Take Friday off anyway.) In Hollywood -

Gunga Din: What's all the fuss about?
hlywdkjk replied to misswonderly3's topic in General Discussions
*"I do agree with kyle, who said the performance of the actor playing the leader of the "Tugees" was quite chilling. He was very good, one of the best things in the film."* - MissWonderly Actually, that was RayFaiola who wrote that. But I also, like you, agree with what he wrote. And my question about a holiday had nothing to do with Easter, Memorial Day or Elections. I was wondering if Canadians (Canadiens?) were getting Friday off in honor of "The Wedding" like their English counterparts. The Monarchy is still a presence in Canada, right? Kyle In Hollywood -

I don't know. I really like it. Maybe someone is still working through some latent guilt about the British Empire? Kyle (Is this coming Friday a holiday in Canada too?) In Hollywood -

My turn for a question about Friday night's performance at The Music Box. Does the performance start at 9pm or do the doors open at 9pm? If the performance starts at 9pm, what time do the doors open? Kyle In Hollywood -

*"Anyways I am having issues seeing the July schedule. Can anyone tell me who is the Star of the Month? Thanks."* kinokima - Try this link - http://www.tcm.com/schedule/monthly.html?tz=pst&sdate=2011-07-01 And I believe there is no single "Star Of The Month". TCM is saluting B-Movie Cowboy stars. (Or as I call it, Poverty Row Westerns Month.) Nights are turned over to Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, Dick Foran, Ken Maynard, etc. Kyle In Hollywood

Last July, TCM devoted one evening to films without a music score. (No original dramatic score.) The line-up was - *Yesterdays' Enemy* (1959) premiere *Fail Safe* (1964) *Network* (1976) *Executive Suite* (1954) *Interiors* (1978) Kyle In Hollywood
