  1. *"And, "Kyle in Hollywood" -- I'm truly sorry that you don't "get it"..."*

I get "disappointment" that the advance schedules are not available right now. What I DON'T get is multiple threads on the subject and calls for boycotting/cancelling subscriptions over the currrent state of those schedules.

Somewhere, in one of the many threads addressing this situation, I posed the idea that the "missing advance schedules" might only be a temporary problem from the minor changes made last week and they may be reinstated soon.

Well, "Soon" is coming. Just be patient about the schedules and other Message Board issues that are still outstanding. The text Reply" and "Edit" links have returned. "Request A Movie" is promised to return. The "Preview" function has returned with the new composition window(s). I am sure the "Quote" function for the composition window will be back too. But in a company as big as Turner Networks, the number of persons devoted to the TCM website is probably small when compared with Cartoon Network or CNN. TCM probably shares its small staff with those larger outlets. And priorities will always have to be decided about who and what comes first.

TCM isn't trying to drive anyone crazy or drive anyone away. But with so much huffing and puffing around here about this, many folks seem to be doing a good job at driving themselves crazy.

  2. *"Folks who subscribe, should cancel ASAP..."*

Uhmmm. Folks who subscribe to "Now Playing" are likely the very last persons who are put out over not having the printable schedules accessible three months in advance. Next to last are those that can afford to attend the TCM Classic Film Cruise or Classic Film Festival.

  3. *"It amazes me that they would care this much about this stupid little guide..."* - overeasy

As a source of revenue for a commercial-free channel, "Now Playing" is definitely more than just a "stupid little guide." There is too much work put into it by some very talented people for one to talk about it so dismissively.

It is also an integral part of TCM's identity and brand. It is almost as important to the brand as keeping commercials off the channel. And subscriptions to "Now Playing" help ensure that won't have to happen.

  4. *"Oh, give me a break. It's called customer service. People enjoy printing these schedules

ahead and planning what movies they are going to watch/tape."* - lydecker

While people may enjoy perusing schedules 2-4 months in advance, the same people also can raise quite the ruckus when TCM makes changes to these preliminary line-ups not understanding that, when posted so far in advance, they are "works-in-progress" and subject to change. (Yes. People ARE that clueless.)

By linking to them through the website, it conveyed the idea of the schedules being finalized and ready to print "for posterity" when that wasn't the case. If TCM is getting too much grief for posting these early, _preliminary_ schedule pages, the smartest way to put an end to it is to take them off-line.

Why the pages that float around the Forums to see upcoming schedules are no longer complete is unknown to me. But at least one person has posted that the pages do display the full listings when using an alternative browser rather than Internet Explorer. Perhaps this is just a tweak that needs to be executed like restoring the text links for "Edit" and "Reply".

Still, maybe they won't be accessible any longer in the printable format. One can always read the schedule two months out using the daily listings. It's not as if TCM doesn't want its viewers to know what is coming up. It just doesn't want persons printing those schedules early if they are not finalized.

  5. *"Yeah, and it took a team of programmers to get those two words back. Cheeta could have done it in 2 minutes."* - FCD

Maybe. Or perhaps it just needed to be brought to someone's attention - as many have done in various threads throughout the Forums since last Thursday.

  6. *"I can only reply to thread, and not a particular poster."* - scsu1975

The text links to "Edit" and "Reply" have been reinstated.

And actually, even though the "Reply Icon" (cartoon bubble with the green arrow) was labelled "Reply To Thread", when used from a previous member's post, that icon did reply to what that member had posted and not to the thread / OP.

  7. Thanks to everyone that has posted so far.

It seems as if the "Hal Roach Spotlight" will be a highlight for many - and for a long time.

There are a few events that I am surprised no one has added yet. And that no one has given any love to any of the single-evening Guest Programmers. Chris Isaak was a fun guest last week. He was really into his selections.

Anyway, keep adding more Favorite Fives everyone.

  8. *"I think at least 25% of these films have been shown on TCM."* - helenbaby

Thanks for posting that. I was thinking the same thing. Glad to know I am not mistaken.

The same was true of the long list of Fox titles posted awhile ago. A great number of them had been shown on TCM in the past. Fox, Paramount and Universal films shown on TCM often are only "one-offs" and not repeated. I'd love the chance to see *Easy Living* from the beginning just once.

Anyone know if Academy Membership is a lifetime privilege? I shudder to think of Russell Brand still being there fifty years from now.

  11. mongo -

I figured out that to use the codes I've used all along, one needs to use the "Plain Text" option.

At the top of the composition window, you should see three tabs -

    "Rich Text"

    "Plain Text"

    "Preview"

When the window first opens and fully loads, click on the "Plain Text" tab and you will see the "old" composition window. Write (or paste) your text that worked before into the compostition area and then hit preview. If you see your image display in "preview", then it will display in the thread.

Hope that is helpful, my friend.

  13. Arturo -

It isn't you. The link provided a few weeks ago isn't working today.

To see the any of the August line-ups, you'll have to use the daily schedule pages. Go here -

    http://www.tcm.com/schedule/index.html

When the page fully loads, in the box that lists today's date, click on the down-pointing triangle. It should load a "calendar" for June. At the top where you see "June" there is an arrow on the right to "page forward" one month at a time. Click over until you see August and then click on August 1st on the displayed calendar page. You should see the line-up for Marlon Brando Day.

At the bottom of the listings there is a link for the "Next Day". You can move forward through the month using that link.

    http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/la-et-debbie-reynolds-20110614,0,4614079.story

"I am really sick and tired of it. I feel that I must call it a day now," said the 79-year-old Reynolds, the star of such classic films as 1952's "Singing' in the Rain. " "Over the years, I have literally spent millions of dollars protecting it and taking care of it. If you were me, wouldn't you give up after 35 years?"

The auction is being held this Saturday at the Paley Center in Beverly Hills (Formerly The Museum Of Broadcasting) which has many of the items on display. The auction "preview" is open to the public Wednesday and Thursday.
