Hi ChicagoVet - Your eyes are not mistaken. That is what I also see listed for Friday. ("Navarone" - Out. "Godfather" - In.) But the Peck family was always going to participate in the screening of *To Kill A Mockingbird*. Adding *The Godfather* to the schedule is quite a coup. On the 28th, the Peck Family will be in Beverly Hills participating in the "First Day Of Issue" ceremony for the release of Gregory Peck's "Legends Of Hollywood" postage stamp. This event takes place at the Motion Picture Academy of Arts and Sciences building on Wilshire Blvd. and you can read more about it here - http://www.altfg.com/blog/movie/gregory-peck-legends-of-hollywood-commemorative-stamp/ *"I wonder if there will be other changes before the festival starts. I don't know---I'm new here."* It is possible. Last year there were tweaks to the schedule throughout the month leading up to Opening Night. A few films fell off the line-up while others were added. Keep checking the website for additional information and any other updates. Kyle In Hollywood

Saturday, April 9th ----------------------- *Sea Of Grass* (1947) France -
*Ok those lucky ones of you who got to go to the film festival last year....answer please. Let us learn from you!!* It's a pleasure. Hopefully it will be useful to you and others attending for the first time. *What is one thing that you did that you wouldn't do again?* I went home and took a nap in the middle of the day on Saturday. (I live walking distance from the Festival hub.) My day had started early with *Playtime* in the Egyptian (9am) and was going to end there too watching the "Out Of Circulation" cartoons (10pm). I doubted I would make it through the day without a little rest in between. But I wish I had toughed it out and attended a few other events that afternoon - like "A Conversation with Norman Lloyd". *What one thing did you NOT do that you would do this time?* Introduce myself and say "Hello" to Ben Mankiewicz. As another wrote in a previous post/thread, getting to Robert Osborne was often as difficult as getting close to Mickey Mouse at Disneyland. But I saw Ben in the lobby of the Roosevelt a few times and I never approached him. And he was often alone. Granted, he was usually poring over notes or other papers and was probably prepping for an interview, introduction or other Festival Duty. And I didn't want to interrupt or be a distraction. This year I hope the chance arises again. I am over my fear of being a distraction. And Ben never gets enough "love" from the fans. *ONE thing (not including movies) you must see? (can be hollywood landmark or a special presentation done by TCM)* Seeing Classic Films on the Big Screen is a definite draw for most attendees. But there is so much more going on that is truly extraordinary. So make a point of attending ONE event that is unique and special to the Classic Film Festival and which you will never have the opportunity to experience ever again. Last year, such events included Mel Brooks "Walk Of Fame" ceremony, a Water Ballet performance poolside at the Roosevelt and a presentation of Joan Crawford's "Home Movies". *Top Hat* is a great movie - BUT... in the long run, it is still a movie that you can see quite easily at home. But when will you ever again get the chance to attend an aqautic tribute to Esther Williams - with her present. Find a "one-of-a-kind" event in this year's line-up and make a point to go. But if it is all about the movies, then see a silent with live accompaniament or a really rare screening of a film/films which will likely never be seen somewhere else or on TV. *Metropolis* was one of those experiences last year. (Off the chart thrills.) And so were the "Fragments" screening, the "Out Of Circulation" cartoons and *The Story Of Temple Drake*. This year you can see *The Cameraman* or *The Merry Widow* with live accompaniament, be one of the few in decades to see *The Constant Nymph* or *Night Flight* or take in the midnight screening of *The Tingler* which sounds positively electric. *Would you spend all day in the theater or take breaks and not see a segment of movies?* Took a break. (See above.) But it also gives one the opportunity to remember details from the day's activities. So take notes. By Sunday evening, what happened, what was said and who you met on Thursday will already begin to fade from the short term memory. Once a day take the time to record your thoughts and memories. Because your friends will be sooo impressed when you quote Nancy Olson or Richard Rush or Angelica Huston at your next dinner party. *And Finally....One piece of advice to all the newbies...* Do attend the "Meet the Network" event on Thursday afternoon if possible. But if that isn't in the cards, here's the next best thing. (Or maye even better.) We've just finished a month of TCM Staffers introducing films across from Robert Osborne. Last year some of these same people were also enlisted to do a preliminary introduction at most screenings. (They read a prepared script of acknowledgements and admonitions to the audiences and then introduced the "host" of the screening.) I fully expect many of these people to have such duties again this year. Hopefully you will see one or more of these folks during your travails up and down the Boulevard or while entering the Roosevelt or while in Club TCM. If by chance you spy one of them and the chance arises, make a point of saying "Hello" and letting them know what you think of the Classic Film Festival and of TCM itself. I found that "Hi! By chance, are you out here from Atlanta?" is a perfect way to broach the subject. TCM is one of the few television networks that is completely devoted to its viewers. It is not in the ad-selling business like commercial channels. It operates only to entertain and enlighten you. At the Classic Film Festival you've got the chance to let them know if they are succeeding in that mission. Praise them. Prod them. Probe them. Speak up because connecting with each other is wonderful benefit of attending the Film Festival. So don't be shy. They are looking forward to meeting you too. *"We received the schedule today...so excited!* *Are there additional events/programs for Spotlight Pass holders? If so, where would they be posted? Also, any advice on what to wear to the Vanity Fair party? Is it formal attire?"* - RhondaNY Hello "Rhonda" - Have you received your "passes" in the mail yet? If so, I think the schedule of special events for Spotlight Passholders would be included with those materials. If not, then I think there is a registration at the Roosevelt on Thursday (There was last year) and you likely will be given a "Spotlight" itinerary then. I know Spotlight Passholders get all that great Swag! Be sure and pick yours up! I think there are many extra events just for passholders like yourself. As to dress, be as "glamorous" as you want that night. But I wouldn't necessarily think of the dress as being "formal". TCM describes it as "Cocktail Attire" - or what you would wear if going to a really fun (and trendy) party. But I will also tell you that last year there were men in Tuxedo coats and women in their best gowns for the Opening Night Gala and After-Party. So it is up to you to define "glamorous". Hope this is helpful. Kyle In Hollywood

I hope you are well and happy and having a ball yourself - tonight and every night. So, why aren't you (and Mother) coming to the Classic Film Festival? There better be a good reason. OK all us Left-Coasters! The TCM Classic Film Festival "Road To Hollywood " series of FREE screenings is getting ever closer to Hollywood, Passes for the FREE screening of *Elmer Gantry* in San Francisco are still available (as of Wednesday Night, April 6th). The screening is Wednesday, April 20th at the historic Castro Theater and will be hosted by Ben Mankiewicz with Special Guest Shirley Jones in attendance. And on Thursday morning (April 7th), passes to the FREE screening of *From Here To Eternity* become available for download. This screening at the Egyptian Theater will also be hosted by Ben Mankiewicz with Special Guest Ernest Borgnine in attendance. The passes can be found here - http://www.tcm.com/2011/roadtohollywood/index.html Don't say I didn't warn ya. Kyle In Hollywood -
*"Kyle, where would poor little lost movie fan with a Classic Pass find such a .pdf file?"* - JackBurley (Haven't written that name in a LONG time.) You can find a screening list pdf here - http://news.turner.com/press_kits_detail.cfm?presskit_id=235&press_section_id=2586 And then click on the "download pdf" at the top of the column. It is a very thorough listing of screenings and some special events. But not everything announced or published so far has made it into this pdf file. Some Special Guests, in particular, are not included. (No mention of Chris Isaak or Mary Ann Mobley, for instance.) But it does state that Peter O'Toole's Hand & Foot Print ceremony will take place on Saturday. Still, this pdf may become "outdated" again soon. I've heard a rumor there are more "surprises" yet to come. Brace yourself. Kyle (Looking Forward to Seeing You!) In Hollywood

How Early DoTheater Doors Typically Open?
hlywdkjk replied to hulaskater's topic in Questions and Concerns
Well, you know. "Popular" is a really subjective term. But believe me. You will have more than enough "popular" events to choose from at any given time of the day. For example, all these events were happening concurrently on Friday afternoon last year - *Sweet Smell Of Success* w/ Tony Curtis *Carmen Jones* hosted by Dandridge biographer Donald Bogle *The Big Trail* (1930) (restored early John Wayne film) and one of the few westerns shown last year. "Moguls And Movie Stars" Documentary Sneak Preview "Peter Bogdanovich and Leonard Maltin - a Conversation" in Club TCM or these events on Saturday Morning - *Treasure Of The Sierra Madre* with Angelica & Danny Huston *Leave Her To Heaven* (restored Technicolor Print) with Dwayne Hickman "Festival Shorts" (Selected Short Subjects) curated by Leonard Maltin *Pillow Talk* "Joan Crawford's Home Movies" hosted by her grandson Casey LaLonde in Club TCM or these on Saturday Afternoon - *North By Northwest* with Eva Marie Saint *Crimes And Misdemeanors* with Angelica Huston *A Woman's Face* with Casey Lalonde and Illeana Douglas *Safety Last* with accompaniament by the Robert Israel Orchestra "A Conversation with Norman Lloyd" in Club TCM Each of those events were "popular". And I don't think any passholder was turned away from any of them. I am sure the selection of events this year will be equally varied and equally interesting to the passholders so that they spread themselves out among all the events each day. It is the individual ticket buyers that will likely have a difficult time seeing things this year. There may not be alot of empty seats to sell individually. Have you chosen a few "must-see" events for yourself from those that have been announced so far? At the top of my list is *The Cameraman* followed by "Reds", the Peter O'Toole interview and *West Side Story*. For "fun", I could easily attend *Now, Voyager*, *One, Two, Three* or *Citizen Kane* and be happy. Or *Gold Diggers of 1933*, *The Ghost And Mrs. Muir* or *Gaslight*. I think a lot of us from the Forums are looking forward to the screening of *The Cameraman*. If it interests you, you should plan on joining us. Kyle In Hollywood -

*"just curious .. does anyone have any idea how many passes were available at the different levels? I couldn't begin to guess and was just wondering what sorts of numbers we're talking about. Any clue how many attended last year's festival?"* - Wolfie I haven't a clue how many passes were available at each level this year. And I don't know how many were set aside at each level last year. But "Spotlight" and "Essentials" passes are limited to the number of available seats in the Chinese Theater after setting aside seating for all Special Guests of the Film Festival, other specially invited guests or other "friends" of TCM. I know that there were many Turner Network Executives at the screening of *A Star Is Born* last year along with other local industry folks. And many of the Special Guests of the Film Festival were in the audience watching that first night too. "VDOVault" "bonded" with Eli Wallach and "SueSue" was seated next to/near Juanita Moore. "Unofficially", attendance last year included 2000 passholders and 3000 individual ticket purchasers which combined for an approximate total of twenty thousand "admissions" to all of the screenings. (That includes admittance by passholders and individual purchasers. One passholder attending four screenings a day over four days would total 16 "admissions".) With last year's passholder total being 2000, I am guessing that this year that number will be exceeded by about 500 more persons. The near immediate "sell out" of the Roosevelt and the cessation of sales of the top three pass levels leads me to believe that. But not to worry. TCM has (likely) capped the total number of all passes available to be the number of all available seats at all screenings/events at any given hour in the day. There will be something for every one holding a pass to see or attend at all times. Needless to say, there will be a lot of Classic Film Fans in Hollywood this month. The Boulevard will never be the same again. Kyle In Hollywood -

*"What is the numerical order system you mentioned? Do people get assigned a number when they get in line?"* - Wolfie Yes. That is exactly what it is. But it was "hit and miss" last year as some theaters/screenings used the number system for those waiting in line while others did not. Kyle In Hollywood -
How Early DoTheater Doors Typically Open?
hlywdkjk replied to hulaskater's topic in Questions and Concerns
*"How long before the start of each film are spotlight pass holders typically allowed to enter the theater?"* - hulaskater Spotlight Passholders can skip to the front of any line that has formed outside a theater. They will be the first ones to enter any screening. They may have a window of about ten minutes when only they can enter, but I am not sure. I do think, once any Spotlight Pass holders waiting for the doors to open (or in that ten minute window) have been allowed in, then the other passholders are allowed to enter - albeit slowly and maybe only by numerical order, (if the number system is enacted again this year.) And during this time, any Spotlight Passholders who arrive while there are still seats available will still be allowed to go directly to the front of any line that is still waiting to enter. *"How about non-spotlight holders?"* See above. But allow yourself additional time to line-up outside the smallest of the Chinese6 Theaters to guarantee yourself a seat to a screening you really want to attend. Arriving "only" 30 minutes before the start of a screening may not be enough time to get a seat in those small theaters. And with so many more passholders attending the Festival this year, that may also hold true for screenings at the larger theaters. We'll have to wait and see. (And if anyone has a better insight to the question, please speak up.) Kyle In Hollywood -
