Here's a link to the webpage for the Los Angeles ABC affililate's program titled "Eye On L.A." http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?section=resources/eye_on_la&id=8048478 Tonight's edition featured "Los Angeles' Most Iconic Places" and included insider visits to Hollywood icons like Grauman's Chinese Theater, The Magic Castle and The Jim Henson Studios (formerly Chaplin Studios.) Each of these places are "foot-friendly" (walking distance) for any Classic Film Festival visitor. The program is a great intro to the neighborhood and other parts of L.A. that may be of interest to any attendees that find themselves with some extra time on their hands that weekend. (I am thinking any "Matinee Passholders", in particular.) A visit to the Magic Castle would be a wonderful way for a Matinee Passholder to spend a Friday or Saturday evening. There are separate video links for each of the Hollywood segments along with other "Icons" featured in the show - like Griffith Observatory, Capitol Records and Fred Segal on Melrose. Give it a look. Curious about wealth in Beverly Hills

Not that he couldn't have invested in real estate in Beverly Hills, but Bob Hope lived in the Toluca Lake area of the San Fernando Valley for most of his life. The family is still there. Kyle In Hollywood -

Hotel recommendations, pros & cons?
hlywdkjk replied to chicagovet's topic in Questions and Concerns
*"Kyle: Thanks for your help. They came up with three on Sunset: A Comfort Inn, Rodeway Inn, The Sunset Inn, and a Quality Inn on La Brea-please tell me it's not in the middle of those tar pits."* - wouldbestar Hi - Of all the suggestions you named, The Quality Inn on LaBrea is closest and likely to be equal in cost to all the others. I have walked by there often and it appears very nice. This is the website for the place - http://www.qualityinn.com/hotel-hollywood-california-CAB20 The place is no where near the Tar Pits. And it is only a block away from the Roosevelt - by way of the back exit/valet area of the Roosevelt. You can be in your room five minutes after leaving the Roosevelt. I am not familiar with any of the others you listed. But I believe they are all in the same area of Sunset Blvd. Not a far walk by any means. As to your thoughts about taking the Greyhound, I wouldn't try to talk you out of seeing your sister. BUt I am thinking a looooong bus ride cross country would be very tiring. And the last thinkg you should be when arriving at the Festival is tired. Just something to keep in mind. This is a useful map of the area - (Definitely Click Through To Access Larger, More Readable Versions. Choose "Actions" and then "View All Sizes". Go to the "Original" size.) The Roosevelt is on the left hand side area of the map. And the Quality Inn, while not listed on the map, would be just to the left of the "flag" pointing to The Roosevelt. (Hollywood Blvd. runs across the center of the map. The street (drawn unfinished) hinted to on the very far left is LaBrea. So that shows you just how close you would be. The hotels/Inns on Sunset would occupy the lower white area of the map on the left. At least, I know the Rodeway is in that area. And for future reference, The Music Box theater where the filmed interview with Peter O'Toole will take place is the last "tall" building on Hollywood Blvd. the far right side of the map. (It isn't designated on the map but the building is drawn there.) I hope this is somewhat helpful to you. If there is anything else you would like to know, please ask. I, or some others around here, may be able to offer more advice. Kyle In Hollywood -
*"It's official. Everybody gets to miss something they really, really wanted to see! All this and only four days."* - David In Seattle Is pessimism creeping in there David? Or is it just pragmatism? But I can see where you're coming from. If one takes in five films a day over four days, that is only (Only???) 20 screenings. And the total number of films being screened is much longer than that. It does appear that we have the "complete" list of films. The pdf file released today is tagged "FINAL" so I am guessing there isn't any more announcments of screenings to come. Whew! It is almost a relief to know that the Festival has reached capacity for screenings. I've counted 61 films being screened this year. I think that's about a 50% increase over last year. Plus, there is Robert Osborne's interview with Peter O'Toole which is being recorded for TCM and his Handprint/Footprint ceremony in the Forecourt of the Chinese Theater. There are panel discussions/presentations yet to be announced. Plus, while sitting across from Robert Osborne the other night, the Managing Director of the Festival referenced some exhibits planned for the Festival this year. And I thought last year was overloaded with too many events. Ha! Silly me! So now we wait. Hopefully the next few days will bring the release of "the grid" - the chronological listings of films/events divided up by theater when everyone can see what is showing opposite the rest of the screenings. Then the gnashing of teeth - and perhaps a bit of keening - will really begin. *Becket* or *Seven Brides...* ? The TCM Classic Film Festival became the CLASSIC Film Festival with today's announcement. Adding titles such as *Now, Voyager*, *The Mummy*, *A Night At The Opera* and *The Ghost And Mrs. Muir* really filled out the line-up in a way that stamps the Festival with TCM's imprint. And I do like the idea that one can create a mini-film series of Joseph Cotten films during the Festival. He appears in *Citizen Kane*, *Gaslight*, *The Third Man* and *Niagra*. That's kinda cool. And "Bravo" for adding *Manhattan* to the Gershwin line-up. It was the film that opened me to the Gershwin Songbook - even without any songs. *"They are a package with the plane that goes from my TIA to Bob Hope in Burbank. Am I on the right track? Any help would be appreciated."* - wouldbestar First, I am so glad you are attending the Film Festival this year. You're going to have a ball. As to your hotel options, it might help us if you post what places Priceline and/or the Airfair Package suggested. Then a few of us can give you some feedback on those options that will be most helpful to you. At this point, I will say - "the closer, the better." Try to be as close to the Roosevelt/Hollywood Blvd. as possible.
