The Longer Road To Hollywood - 2011

*"I have my hot little tickets in my grubby little hands. Can't wait."* - Gregory165 Yea! And don't worry, April 2nd will be here sooner than you think. *"Who else from these boards will be at the Manchurian screening in NYC? It might be nice to put some faces with message-board names at the screening."* Hopefully a few others will chime in and announce their planned attendance at the screening. But you might want to checkout the Rambles thread too. I know a few of those ladies live in New York and are likely to be going. At least, they should be going. -------------- Did anyone go to the Tampa Screening of *Smokey And The Bandit* hosted by Ben Mankiewicz and Burt Reynolds? Would REALLY love to hear about that event. Also curious how Reynolds is doing after his surgery. I hope he isn't frail as I couldn't get my head to accept that image. And I am still anticipating a Cleveland report! *"I've loved Peter since I was a young girl, first seing him in his iconic role as LOA, so beautifully handsome in those white cotton Damascus robes, keffiyeh and agal. Can you imagine the effect he and the classic film had on a girl of Syrian descent? And through the yrs. and all of his great performances afterward, I never waivered. I don't think he'll ever know the effect he's had on my life; so many wonderful memories, including my parents & family. I know; I'm rambling."* - kathan12 What a wonderful remembrance you posted today. Thank you for sharing it. Sorry you won't be in Hollywood this Spring but take comfort that Robert's conversation with Peter O'Toole will be seen on TCM in the coming months. Kyle In Hollywood

*"One of my favorite films. William Cameron Menzies production design is exquisite. Thank you for the poster."* - CineramaRick You're very welcome! Thanks for letting me know. So, did you ever get through all 300+ pages of this thread? And did you find some "favorites" in the group? Kyle In Hollywood -

Hey, Missouri Bird (And TCM) Watchers! On Monday Morning (21st), TCM viewers in St. Louis can download passes to attend a screening of *The Birds* hosted by Ben Mankiewicz and Tippi Hedren happening on Monday, April 4th. To get yours, go here - http://www.tcm.com/2011/roadtohollywood/index.html and click on "St. Louis". Kyle In Hollywood -
After last year, I learned making a list at this point is like filling in an NCAA bracket. It is going into the "circular filing cabinet" every time the latest information gets announced. But the few "must-sees" I would use as "tent poles" which I would plan around - *The Cameraman* with the Vince Giordano Orchestra *Reds* with Warren Beatty & Alec Baldwin discussion *West Side Story* 50th Anniversary Screening Peter O'Toole's interview with Robert Osborne at The Music Box In a perfect world, each of those events are on separate days so I know they won't conflict with one another. And there are many screenings I can fill-in around those starting points. We'll see. Soon. Kyle In Hollywood

mijoux - Yea! Glad to hear you're going to the NYC screening. It really sounds like a wonderful evening. I look forward to hearing your thoughts afterward. Kyle In Hollywood

You're in luck. Can't post it in this Forum - but click on the link below. When there, select "Actions" and then "View All Sizes" to access larger versions. And just so you know, the cover version has been cropped down quite a bit. Kyle In Hollywood

*"I am unable to post any photos in General Discussions so I am posting them here. Just need to post something or will go crazy!"* - gagman66 I think you really should create a personal thread as your own creative outlet and for which your are the sole "archivist". That is what "Candids" is for Mongo, "1939 - As It Happens" is for filmlover and the "Censored Poster Gallery" is for me. I wouldn't add to Mongo's Gallery - but I've emailed him photos for him to add at his discretion. I felt that was the most courteous way to go about it. I understand the work and effort that goes into gathering all there rare images that he finds. He obviously has a vision that guides him in his postings. And while a single addition of a photo by another member (often in response to an image posted by Mongo) may not be intrusive, multiple postings such as these tonight is a disruption. You know how to start a thread so why not begin one dedicated to displaying your creativity? "Your Favorites" is a perfect place for it. Kyle In Hollywood

Hey New Yawkers! If you forget to post reminders to yourself around the house this week, I'm here to tell you that the passes to the screening of *The Manchurian Candidate* on April 2nd are available for download - _NOW_. http://www.tcm.com/2011/roadtohollywood/newyork/onsale.html Robert Osborne and Angela Lansbury want to see you there. (And "Hey Sandy! I'm still waiting to hear about Cleveland.) Kyle In Hollywood -
At what time do they release the "Road" tickets, please?
hlywdkjk replied to kikilee's topic in Questions and Concerns
kikilee - The passes/tickets are available to download right now (Saturday Morning). - http://www.tcm.com/2011/roadtohollywood/newyork/onsale.html Click on "Click Here To Download Your Free Ticket" right below the image of Angela Lansbury. Jump to it! And have a great time! Kyle In Hollywood -
*"I haven't been able to follow filmlover's thread since the board changes. It seems longer threads like his and Kyle's over there, I try to go to the most recent page, and it just comes up with a blank page. I've tried several days now, will keep on trying, I know they're working on those things."* - markbeckuaf Mark, You can't "see" the most _recent_ page? Have you set the pages to display in Ascending or Descending order? Ascending = Original (Very first) post of thread on Page 1. Descending = Most Recent (today's image) post to thread on Page 1. If one click's solely on the title of the thread, http://forums.tcm.com/thread.jspa?threadID=116507&tstart=0 what did you see before the upgrade (today's added image?) and what do you see today (absolutely nothing)? Let me know so we can work out a solution. It all seems rather odd. Kyle In Hollywood Edited by: hlywdkjk on Mar 19, 2011 8:05 AM

*"From the sounds of the press release, it sounds like the interview with Peter O'Toole will take place at the Music Box."* - lzcutter I think so too. I would expect the screening of *Becket* to take place in one of the film theaters. I was going to post photos of the interior but the Classic Film Festival site has them posted already. Click on "Venues" and choose "The Music Box." It is quite impressive looking. http://www.tcm.com/festival/index.html#/venues/musicbox But I noticed that the listed capacity of The Music Box for tapings is only 450 people. Seems small and likely to fill to capacity early. Kyle In Hollywood

Kinokima - I can't thank you enough for taking the time to make that transcription of the intro. I REALLY appreciate it. What an insightful comment to make about Dassin being blacklisted in Hollywood and how that "silencing" is manifested in the films' story or exposition. Shannon said he is responsible for "...making sure everything has the look and feel of TCM." After hearing him in the red chair last night, I am not surprised that "Professor Clute" would oversee that. Everything TCM is notoriously clean and uncluttered - just like his introduction. There was nothing messy or unruffled about it. You can bet Shannon NEVER colored outside the lines when he was younger. And I am also grateful for your transcription because it answered one of my nagging questions of late - "Who editted last year's Commemorative Program for the Classic Film Festival?" It is a beautiful and very informative companion to the Film Festival. Thanks Shannon. And Thank You So Much, 'kinokima'. You're wonderful. *"This one is really extraordinary, isn't it, the way it gets that great William Warren profile in there?"* - DougieB Yes. It's amazing. I've had it around for quite awhile just waiting for the film to show upon the schedule so I could post it. Finally.... I hope the film is good. Kyle In Holllywood -

*"Rififi - Wowza!! What a movie! Kyle, if I had taped it, I would send the intro to you."* - cinemafan Thank you! What a kind thought that is. And it is the thought that counts. I appreciate it. *"Shannon Clute was such a, well, literate guy. He expressed his feelings about this movie in an exceptional way. I'd like to see more of him."* "Professor Clute." He was very "in command" in his outro. I wonder if a "passionate disagreement" could be found inside him? You know, one of those "You don't like WHAT???" kind of "disagreements." I'm not too sure. And I have to say, he picks great cover photos for the "Now Playing" guide. I cheered when he said he liked the Depardieu *Cyrano de Bergerac*. I do too. Rhyming subtitles! And you can see more of Shannon in many of the monthly podcasts of Staff Recommendations found on the website. *"I was on the edge of my seat..."* Cool. That's how it should be. Kyle In Hollywood
-
*"Hey, kyle, at least you got to see it. Apparently Rififi is yet another "No Canadian Rights" film. And silly me, I was really looking forward to this."* - misswonderly Wow. That's a shame. And I mean it. See if the library can get a copy for you. I know you'd like it. Kyle In Hollywood
-
*"Last night this gal picked a film called "The Projectionist". It was not only a hard movie to follow it was also extremely dumb."* - BuccaneerMoe Well, last night's co-hosts were the curators of the film archives at the Museum Of Modern Art in NYC presenting films from the museum's archives. So, given the "Modern Art" provenance, many of the titles last night were "esoteric". But it is too bad you couldn't get past the subtitles for *RIfifi*. It really is a great film. And there is that loooong section with no dialogue so you wouldn't have had to read anything. Hopefully TCM has the ability to show the film (at least) once more. Kyle In Hollywood
-
kinokima - That's very thoughtful of you. If you could, I'd enjoy that very much. I know it will take some time - so take _your_ time. No need to rush. Kyle In Hollywood
