  1. Attention all you New Yorkers! Start writing reminders to yourself! The passes to "The Road To Hollywood" screening of *The Manchurian Candidate* with Robert Osborne and Angela Lansbury in attendance happening on Saturday, April 2nd will be available either tomorrow (the 18th) or on Saturday, the 19th. There have been conflicting dates stating when the passes will be made available for download. The Original Press Release said the 18th. But the website says the 19th. Just to be safe, I'd start looking tomorrow (Friday) to see if the download is possible. If it isn't, then the passes will be released on Saturday. http://www.tcm.com/2011/roadtohollywood/index.html I'd hate for anyone to miss out as it sounds like it will be a great evening. I hate that I am missing out. Kyle In Hollywood (And 'sandykaypax' - How was your evening with Robert and Eva Marie yesterday? Details! And 'Calamity' too!) 2. MyManMark - I got in a little late tonight so I missed the Staffer who chose *Female*. But I am glad to know she did all the pre-code lovers proud. But... Damn! and Bummer! The introduction of *Rififi* with Staffer Shannon Clute started early. I missed all but the last minute, or so. I can see there was a need to do that as the film is 122m and it is in a 120m timeslot. But I was sooo looking forward to hearing Shannon - who is one of the regular "podcasters" most months - have a conversation with Robert Osborne. Hopefully the outro will be worthwhile. 3. *"This afternoon I spoke to Ed Collins, the managing director of the El Capitan (formerly Dick Cook's right arm at Disney) and he said he and Disney would MOVE MOUNTAINS to celebrate CITIZEN KANE's 70th Anniversary at the El Capitan and despite the fact they will be in their second weekend of a new Disney first run nature film, that to DIGITALLY screen "CITIZEN KANE" that they CAN definitely make it happen if someone in charge of the festival at TCM can get in touch with them ASAP."* - JONO Wow! That is quite a lot effort, Jono. How wonderful if it could come off. Last night, I went to the El Capitan website to see what film was playing during the Film Festival and learned, as you hinted, that it is a new DisneyNature film titled *African Cats*. I don't know if it is an "exclusive" engagement. Rest assured, the Festival Staff will read your post here and pass it along to the persons in charge. And you also left a message with right person at TCM. I look forward to hearing all this turns out. Kyle In Hollywood
  4. *"Robert Osbourne will also be interviewing O'Toole. I pray that interview makes it to the channel. I know Peter O'Toole is one of the top actors I wanted to see for a private screening."* - kinokima The interview will be filmed for the channel. And it sounds like a longer interview is planned with O'Toole than the one filmed with Luise Rainer. And he is getting to add his handprints/footprints in the cement of the Chinese Theater forecourt too! Kyle In Hollywood
  5. Thanks 'Fedya'! I was wondering which films were part of the memorial evening. Kyle In Hollywood
  6. Below is the Error Message I have received when posting a new thread to the Forums today and last night. It appears when clicking on the Post Message button and one is expecting to see their post on the stand alone page saying "Your Message has posted successfully. 7. Tonight the TCM Staffers return to the line-up with some great film choices. First there's 1933's *Female* and it is followed by the TCM Premiere of Jules Dassin's *Rififi* - a must-see film, if there ever was one. (I thought *Rififi* was shown when Dassin passed away a few years back. I guess not.) The evening continues with the "lesser-known" John Wayne film *Trouble Along The Way* and concludes with John Frankenheimer's *Seconds* (unlike *The Manchurian Candidate*, a Frankenheimer film deserving of a re-make.) And we get to meet some more TCM folks involved with all things Digital, Studio Production and the Brand Marketing Department. This may be the best night of the entire series - at least until next week. Kyle In Hollywood Edited by: hlywdkjk on Mar 17, 2011 7:03 PM to change "worthy" to "deserving"
  8. Thursday, March 17th Spain Pick of TCM Staffer (and podcast regular) Shannon Clute of the Brand Marketing Department.

  10. To 'jon90027' - Hi there! I saw your post yesterday (I think it was you.) about organizing a get-together/meet-up for any gay attendees to the 2011 TCM Classic Film Festival. As you can tell, it isn't here any longer. It was deleted by the folks with the WebAdmin company this morning. I suspect that it was tagged as "spam" because you included the link to your other site that organizes Gay Get-Togethers in LA. I know you only included that link as a reference to your background and that it was not as a solicitation for the other site. But WebAdmin obviously couldn't see beyond the violation of linking to an outside "commercial" site in an effort to drive traffic there. I am sorry your thread is gone and I apologise for the ham-handed way it was handled. But I encourage you to re-post the notice and move forward with the get-together. Just leave out the link to your wine tasting happenings group and all should be well. (If it's not, I'll certainly find out why.) While you were probably surprised to find your thread "missing", I wanted to make sure you understood the likely reason behind its disappearance. I hope that you have no lingering doubts that your post was removed due to the gay aspect of the message. I know the TCM'ers well and that was definitely not the case - at least on TCM's part. 12. *"So........is a particular thread "locked" (indicated by the little padlock symbol) simply to STIFLE honest, open debate here, or is there some intelligent, logically sound reason for the (seemingly) random manner used for "policing" these boards??? "* - mdemoswirr The locked threads are a means to limit the number of postings about problems with the recent software upgrade. As 'lzcutter' wrote, it is meant to avoid duplicate threads and keep such posts in a single thread. While that is understandable, you'd think WebAdmin could show the common courtesy of explaining that reason and directing the poster where to continue the discussion when locking the thread. To do it without explanation - especially to new members who are posting for the first time - is confusing, frustrating and a poor reflection on TCM. And TCM values its viewers and the membership here much higher than has been demonstrated by the folks at WebAdmin. Kyle In Hollywood
  13. *"...since two or three of us were disciplined for getting off topic recently, and were not nearly so volatile, and I notice that thread is gone, I have to wonder. Some of the older posters argue quite a lot, and get really nasty and insulting from time to time, but is it okay as long as it is on topic?"* - jbh Only "WebAdmin" seems to know why they act in the manner they do. Because it stopped making make sense to many of us long ago. Sorry you got reprimanded. I doubt you deserved it. Kyle In Hollywood

  15. 'I Love Ginger' - This was answered for you in the previous thread you posted on March 13th. You can find it here - http://forums.tcm.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=8502175 Kyle In Hollywood
  16. *"This thread was cleaned up..."* Renee No. You've butchered it and removed some relevant and valuable "on-topic" postings in the process which were in no way in violation of the CoC. In fact, some members have heard directly from TCM employees expressing their support and appreciation for the responses some of us wrote and which you so cavalierly excised this morning. If you don't want some of us to respond to the "crazy" writings that gets posted in here, I suggest you delete the "crazy" immediately. Because doing so a week afterwards is disruptive and insulting - Much more insulting than anything another member has written and was directed at some of us. 17. *" Obviously, if I posed the question about the "employees" true status with TCM mightn't it be because I had some personal knowledge of what other companies do?"* - infinite1 There is a BIG difference between photographing an actor/model as the "visual representation" of an employee for use in a publication like an Annual Shareholder's Report and the "personal representation" of the TCM Staff (by name and title) by inviting them to appear on the channel introducing a part of the evening's programming. *" Too bad this forum isn't run by the four above and their cronies, then they could pick and choose who should have the honor of participating by virtue of how well they follow the party line."* - infinite1 No one - not the four you mentioned by name or any other member here - has told you not to participate in discussions found in these Forums, have they? I don't remember anyone saying it. And I doubt I said it. But you certainly are skilled at tossing off accusations like that. You've stubbornly refused to believe the explanations offered to the issues you have brought to these Forums because, after reading your post today, it obviously challenged your view of the world in general and (for some strange reason) your "thinking" about TCM specifically. Many have attempted to enlighten you to the workings and attitudes of TCM because some Board members here have been privileged to learn it or experience it first-hand. And in return, besides being obstinate, you've been rude, condescending and dismissive. You've accused these members of being here to impose "the party line" upon those that express contrarian opinions as if they are here only to be propagandists for TCM. Nothing could be further from the truth. Funny thing about propaganda, it is never about the truth. Propaganda is intentionally dishonest. But all the information provided to you about TCM, its 'libraries", "the repeats", its "Mission Statement" and other programming decisions has been nothing but accurate and truthful. Ignore it if you wish or reject it because you don't trust the source(s), but that won't stop it from being true. From your post below, it appears your "issues" go far beyond anything that involves TCM. And they won't be resolved in the TCM Forums. Besides, after weeks of this foolishness, I am left believing you are the one being intentionally dishonest. Kyle In Hollywood

  19. *"Wow, Monica was fantastic!"* - FredCDobbs Sorry I missed the intro. But I am looking forward to her outro. *"Also, Mr. Osborne is fairly famous in the industry for making people feel at ease, so I'm sure most of the employees he interviews feel like they are just chatting with him..."* Correct. That is how everyone is told to approach the interview. And RO is really the only person one can see while sitting there. It's not because the lights are blinding one to seeing those off-camera. They are "hiding". Even if one looks around, one can't see them. *"In addition, since this is not a live interview, I would imagine that they probably tape a longer segment, then they edit out the best comments, and they don't use the ones that aren't so good."* You're correct again, Fred. *"But what I would like to see is an old man with long hair and a beard, wearing a cowboy hat and looking a little like Gabby Hayes, talking about his job at TCM and his favorite Western, which would be a Roy Rogers movie."* And just what job would this person have at TCM? Hmmm? Kyle In Hollywood
  20. *"How about him simply saying that there is no TCM LIBRARY. Is that simple enough for you?"* I guess you missed last week's conversation with the TCM Staffer in charge of Program Planning and Acquisition when that subject came up. You might have learned something. Kyle In Hollywood

  22. Hello Binky - *Sounds like many of you went last year. Would you mind answering some questions?* Not at all. Happy to do it. 1) *Did they screen each film, or host each panel, only once during the festival?* Very few films were given encore screenings. And the only ones that were repeated were films whose screenings filled up fast and left many pass holders outside the theater. Last year, the few repeat screenings that did take place were shown on the final day and were not announced until late Saturday or early Sunday morning. If you really want to see a particular film, plan to arrive early - especially for films being screened in the Mann 6 theaters which are the smallest of all the venues. Last year the schedule with the films and the theaters where they were being screened was announced a few weeks before the start of the Festival. I would expect it to be the same again this year. When that is info is posted, it will help alot on planning each days events that you want to take in. As for Panel Discussions and other Special Presentations, last year each one happened only once during weekend. CORRECTION EDIT: Last year *Some Like It Hot* did have two "pre-planned" screenings. 2) *How much time did you spend waiting for admittance to a screening or panel?* Depends on the screening and the theater where it is taking place. The Chinese (1200 seats) and Egyptian (850 seats) are large. As a pass holder, you should be able to gain entry to a screening there by arriving no more half an hour before the start of the film. But if getting a _great seat_ is important, then you would wish to arrive even earlier. For the smaller Mann 6 theaters, _at least_ half an hour would be recommended. (Some lines for screenings at the Mann6 started to form immediately after one screening's audience was admitted for their screening. The 5 o'clock audience went in and the 7 o'clock line started to form.) After a day, you'll be able to sense what may fill up fast and which screenings you might want to set aside additional time in line so that you do get a seat. Also, don't be intimidated by lines you may see outside of a theater. There should be two lines - one for passholders and one for single admission tickets that are made available if there are seats not claimed by passholders at the start of the screening. Make sure you don't get caught in the wrong line. 3) *Did they admit you based on your type of pass?* Only Spotlight Passholders are given priority entrance - no standing in line necessary - while all other passholders queue up together. 4) *Did they stagger the start times for each screening location, or did all films start at the same time?* Start times of screenings, panels and other events are staggered through out the day. (Friday - Sunday) Last year, I think there was always something new starting within a hour - or less. Plus some screenings had discussions / guest appearances before the start of the film while others had them after showing the film. That might make a difference in how you plan your itinerary of what to see and how much time to allow between events. 5) *Were refreshments discounted at the theatres?* Don't know. Surprisingly, I didn't get anything to take into the theater. 6) *Could you buy a "refreshment pass" (something along the lines of drink cards one can pre-purchase on a cruise)?* Can't say for sure. But I never heard about one being offered. 7) *Were all the screenings you attended full?* No. Of the screenings I attended, only *Metropolis* in the Chinese (which filled up with single admission purchasers) and *The Stunt Man* in the smallest of the Mann6 theaters were full houses. I think the small Mann6 theater was full most every screening. But *King Kong* and *Playtime* were lightly attended screenings. I think the early hour (9am) was part of the reason for that. ------------------- Hope that is helpful. And don't hesitate to ask more questions as they occur to you. 24. *"I see that you and fxreyman are working as a tag-team to night."* - FCD You dragged my name into this thread. I wasn't a part of this discussion before that. In the future, be more careful when invoking my name or postings. Kyle In Hollywood
  25. *"Show me the solid documentation of the 26? amount."* - FCD What? You think I am pulling facts out of --my-- ..., thin air? I don't have to make things up. But since you are doubting me - http://consumerist.com/2010/03/list-of-subscriber-fees-shows-what-you-pay-for-channels-you-hate.html Previously posted in this thread - http://forums.tcm.com/thread.jspa?threadID=158669&tstart=0&messageID=8501821#8501821 But I did err by saying the numbers were from 2010. They were posted online in 2010 but were for the year 2009. *"You said it "belonged" to the neighborhood. I posted your full paragraph."* I did. I don't deny that. But you posted that I said something different. So, which way do you want it, Fred? Who does this website _belong_ to? TCM or to the users of it? Why should TCM listen to any of your complaints or those of anyone else? What obligation does it have to its customers? No more than Sal's Pizzeria? As far as I can tell, TCM's website will continue providing the same information - if not more - that it did before Wednesday. But it will likely be in a different format. It will do all it can to make it more "user-friendly" - but I don't guarantee it will ever be FredCDobbs-friendly. Kyle In Hollywood
