OK, if Charlotte and Jerry were chaste when in the taxi overnight, then explain to me why Charlotte uses that incident to break-off the engagement with the Boston Blue Blood. All she does is begin to describe the night and the Blue Blood seems to know where the story is going and suggests its best to not continue the engagement.
If this wasn't about telling the Blue Blood that she had been "de-flowered", what was it all about? On its own, just being stranded in a taxi because of circumstances out their control certainly wouldn't justify calling of an engagement, would it? There had to be more to it than just sleeping next to a stranger.

_Press Previews_
Here's a couple of interesting articles previewing two events of the Film Festival.

I'll do my best to get there too. I am really interested in seeing these artifacts. And maybe I'll get a chance to chat with RO too?

Hi CineMaven -
Welcome To Hollywood! (I had to get that out of the way first.) It's great to have you here in my 'hood. Can't wait to see you!
Non-passholders can attend the Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks concert at the Music Box Friday evening. Admission is $20.00 for the general public and available at the venue the night of the event. (No advance sales.)
As to other options for non-passholders, I am not certain. Last year the lobby of the Roosevelt Hotel was open to the public (save for the duration of the Opening Night Party.) But because TCM has taken over the lobby and turned it into a studio for taping this year, I don't know if that area is completely off-limits to the public and passholders only are given access. Of course, if you and your guest are staying in the Roosevelt, your guest will likely be given the ability to travel through that area. And if they happen to stick around the lobby awhile on their way to the Blvd., who's to know? Same goes for tapings happening poolside. Plus, the restrictions on that area wouldn't begin until the start of the Festival - so you and your guest should be able to wander the Roosevelt freely today and tomorrow (Wednesday.)
Typically, footprint ceremonies at the Chinese Theater, like the one for Peter O'Toole on Saturday morning, are "public" events. Whether that is the case with this ceremony is unknown. I don't know of a past ceremony that was affiliated with an event like the Classic Film Festival. I suppose TCM could cordon off the entire area and only allow passholders access to the viewing. I wouldn't blame them if they did. But past ceremonies also blocked the Boulevard and put up bleachers, etc for the viewers. I also don't know if those arrangements will also be in place for Peter O'Toole.
So, those are two other "possiblities" - but no guarantees. You might want to inquire when the info booth opens on Thursday. Or tackle our pal Genevieve if you see her. (Be sure and see her sometime over the weekend.) I hear she is already whirling around the area. And I just heard that the Roosevelt is quite the hub of activity already. It's full of folks we both know. Go take a peek.
See you soon.

A Tradition Is Born - The Footprints in the Chinese Theater Forecourt
"In 1926, Sid Grauman commenced work on his greatest theater to date--the Chinese Theatre. As concrete was being poured to create the sidewalk of the building, he accidentally stepped into it. Accompanied by his friends Mary Pickford and her husband Douglas Fairbanks, Sr., Grauman also encouraged them to place their feet into the cement. Later, the three recreated this fortuitous event and enshrined their footprints and signatures in concrete for the very first official "Footprints" ceremony where they remain today in the Grauman's Chinese courtyard."
Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford
"These original sidewalk slabs were removed in 1958 for another historic occasion--the installation of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. After being stored away from the public eye for nearly two decades, TCM is proud to present a display of three concrete slabs that are a part of the birth of this tradition."

*"The last thing I want to do is open a can of worms but i doubt that I am the only woman who likes Gunga Din and understands all the sub-text going on."* - lzcutter
Oops. I wasn't trying to be misogynistic. I should have written "some women".
And I will also say that Men don't get alot about Women and their friendships either.

*"I dislike the way the three soldiers - well, two of them anyway - regard women and marriage."* - misswonderly
I guessed it would come down to that. Women can't understand male friendships and are loathe to admit that they can't replace (eradicate?) the pleasures that men derive from their male friendships. Choosing a life of domesticity over the life of adventure found in the British Army? For some men, it is an easy decision to make. Fighting for the Queen is much more exciting than coming home to the wife every night - even if she is Joan Fontaine.

*"...and except for a handful of dedicated Royalists, we're fairly indifferent to the Royal Family."* - misswonderly
I'm sure that goes double for the Quebec-ers.

*"I do agree with kyle, who said the performance of the actor playing the leader of the "Tugees" was quite chilling. He was very good, one of the best things in the film."* - MissWonderly
Actually, that was RayFaiola who wrote that. But I also, like you, agree with what he wrote.
And my question about a holiday had nothing to do with Easter, Memorial Day or Elections. I was wondering if Canadians (Canadiens?) were getting Friday off in honor of "The Wedding" like their English counterparts. The Monarchy is still a presence in Canada, right?

I don't know. I really like it.
Maybe someone is still working through some latent guilt about the British Empire?
