  2. Lone Star State fans of TCM can see a few more stars in Texas later this month when Ben Mankiewicz and Angie Dickinson arrive in Austin to present a screening of *Rio Bravo* on Saturday, April 16th.

The free passes become available for download today, Saturday April 2nd. They can be had here -

    Choose "Austin".

And keep an eye out for those other stars, "SueSueApplegate" and "butterscotchgreer". Both are planning on attending.

  3. *"And the obnoxious employee who HIGHLY recommended this piece of hog crap, Alexa Foreman, who talked over Robert Osbourne, trying to convince him, us and her self that this was such a great movie, all the important people she has worked with, the actors were oh, the best ever, even Bob was dumbfounded "Reeeally?" Twice!!"*

*"Too bad Alexa can't take the heat when she goes out on a fragile limb with her fragile and self-inflated ego - I KNOW, I AM IMPORTANT, THIS IS THEEEEEE BEST SUSPENSE MOVIE EVER."*

*"Redo her makeup, give her an upper lip, get her some current hair cut and clothes and tell her to shut up."*

Wow! Did she steal a boyfriend (or job at TCM) from you? Because there is no _reasonable_ explanation for such hatred of a person you otherwise have never met. But there is definitely an agenda at work here. The constant naming of the co-host confirms that.

*"They are probably going to block me now..."*

That's the most insightful and sane comment you have made in two days. I guess everyone has moments of lucidity.

  4. *"Truth must have certainly touched a raw nerve there."* - KonaRose

Truth is one thing. A full-frontal assault on an invited co-host is quite another.

*"She must have friends there, or be as powerful as she tried to convince Robert Osbourne, on air I AM important, I KNOW so and so..."*

This makes me wonder if you even heard anything Ms. Foreman said. The TRUTH is she has been an employee of TCM for 17 years and for most of the recent past has worked closely with Robert Osborne every month. She doesn't need to convince Robert Osborne of anything, let alone her role in the studio segments filmed for the channel.

Last night you posted an angry message that slammed the movie and made unwarranted attacks of a _personal_ nature against an TCM co-host. It was far from being simply an "Honest Movie Review". The visciousness of it was beyond the pall.

You wrote last night that you disliked the movie and that you are not typically inclined to rant. Fine. You wrote that you "needed" to vent. Fine. Mission accomplished yesterday. So why do it all over again today? Is there more underlying anger that you need to "work through" and process to enhance your self-esteem? Carrying on about a "stranger" in the manner you have is just odd.

    *"Truth hurts, very much."*

Wow. What an insightful comment. But, obviously, you also know that cruelty inflicts much more pain - cause you've gone out of your way to exact that on Ms. Foreman. Twice.

*"So I sort of expected her or her friends to get rid of my post, but was hoping for an explanation at least."*

You really thought that TCM needed to explain to you why they had to clean up the "mess" you made last evening inTCM's Forums?

    You're priceless.

  5. *"Kyle: Thanks for your help. They came up with three on Sunset: A Comfort Inn, Rodeway Inn, The Sunset Inn, and a Quality Inn on La Brea-please tell me it's not in the middle of those tar pits."* - wouldbestar

    Hi -

Of all the suggestions you named, The Quality Inn on LaBrea is closest and likely to be equal in cost to all the others. I have walked by there often and it appears very nice. This is the website for the place -

    http://www.qualityinn.com/hotel-hollywood-california-CAB20

The place is no where near the Tar Pits. And it is only a block away from the Roosevelt - by way of the back exit/valet area of the Roosevelt. You can be in your room five minutes after leaving the Roosevelt.

I am not familiar with any of the others you listed. But I believe they are all in the same area of Sunset Blvd. Not a far walk by any means.

As to your thoughts about taking the Greyhound, I wouldn't try to talk you out of seeing your sister. BUt I am thinking a looooong bus ride cross country would be very tiring. And the last thinkg you should be when arriving at the Festival is tired. Just something to keep in mind.

This is a useful map of the area -

    hollywood-map

(Definitely Click Through To Access Larger, More Readable Versions. Choose "Actions" and then "View All Sizes". Go to the "Original" size.)

The Roosevelt is on the left hand side area of the map. And the Quality Inn, while not listed on the map, would be just to the left of the "flag" pointing to The Roosevelt. (Hollywood Blvd. runs across the center of the map. The street (drawn unfinished) hinted to on the very far left is LaBrea. So that shows you just how close you would be. The hotels/Inns on Sunset would occupy the lower white area of the map on the left. At least, I know the Rodeway is in that area.

And for future reference, The Music Box theater where the filmed interview with Peter O'Toole will take place is the last "tall" building on Hollywood Blvd. the far right side of the map. (It isn't designated on the map but the building is drawn there.)

I hope this is somewhat helpful to you. If there is anything else you would like to know, please ask. I, or some others around here, may be able to offer more advice.

  6. *"It's official. Everybody gets to miss something they really, really wanted to see! All this and only four days."* - David In Seattle

Is pessimism creeping in there David? Or is it just pragmatism? But I can see where you're coming from. If one takes in five films a day over four days, that is only (Only???) 20 screenings. And the total number of films being screened is much longer than that.

It does appear that we have the "complete" list of films. The pdf file released today is tagged "FINAL" so I am guessing there isn't any more announcments of screenings to come. Whew! It is almost a relief to know that the Festival has reached capacity for screenings.

I've counted 61 films being screened this year. I think that's about a 50% increase over last year. Plus, there is Robert Osborne's interview with Peter O'Toole which is being recorded for TCM and his Handprint/Footprint ceremony in the Forecourt of the Chinese Theater. There are panel discussions/presentations yet to be announced. Plus, while sitting across from Robert Osborne the other night, the Managing Director of the Festival referenced some exhibits planned for the Festival this year. And I thought last year was overloaded with too many events. Ha! Silly me!

So now we wait. Hopefully the next few days will bring the release of "the grid" - the chronological listings of films/events divided up by theater when everyone can see what is showing opposite the rest of the screenings. Then the gnashing of teeth - and perhaps a bit of keening - will really begin. *Becket* or *Seven Brides...* ?

The TCM Classic Film Festival became the CLASSIC Film Festival with today's announcement. Adding titles such as *Now, Voyager*, *The Mummy*, *A Night At The Opera* and *The Ghost And Mrs. Muir* really filled out the line-up in a way that stamps the Festival with TCM's imprint. And I do like the idea that one can create a mini-film series of Joseph Cotten films during the Festival. He appears in *Citizen Kane*, *Gaslight*, *The Third Man* and *Niagra*. That's kinda cool.

And "Bravo" for adding *Manhattan* to the Gershwin line-up. It was the film that opened me to the Gershwin Songbook - even without any songs.

  7. *"I called and bought the Matinee pass outright and am on the waiting list for the Classic and Essential ones. The main thing is I AM GOING."* - wouldbestar

    Yippeeee!

Happy to know you are making the pilgrimage to this year's Film Festival. And I'll cross my fingers that an upgrade for your pass becomes available.

*"Now to get going on ... wardrobe."*

    "Paging "SueSueApplegate".

  8. *"They are a package with the plane that goes from my TIA to Bob Hope in Burbank. Am I on the right track? Any help would be appreciated."* - wouldbestar

First, I am so glad you are attending the Film Festival this year. You're going to have a ball.

As to your hotel options, it might help us if you post what places Priceline and/or the Airfair Package suggested. Then a few of us can give you some feedback on those options that will be most helpful to you.

At this point, I will say - "the closer, the better." Try to be as close to the Roosevelt/Hollywood Blvd. as possible.

Also take a look at the suggestions in this thread -

  10. Hi TriciaNY -

I haven't been able to determine the exact time passes to the "Road To Hollywood" screenings are ready for download, but they were always available before 9:00am Pacific (My) time.

Are you hoping to attend the screening of *The Birds* ? Just keep looking over the next few hours.
