*"I have tried to sit through {Playtime} twice...maybe it works better in 70mm in a theater. On TV it is deadly."* - ChorusGirl I saw it in 70mm at the Egyptian Theater here in Hollywood last spring during the first TCM Classic Film Festival. It was a revelation. There is no way to truly appreciate the film on television. There is too much going on in the foreground or background near the edges of the frame that one won't catch. That film needs to seen on a screen four stories tall. It is the only way these things become truly "visible" to the audience. (But the apartment window sequence is still overly long - even in the theater.) Kyle In Hollywood

*"Where is all of this gay stuff coming with Alec Baldwin? I have never heard this."* - GatsbyGirl Actually, the statement was made in reference to Robert Osborne by one who thought it was relevant. If you are a fan of *Liberty Valance*, there are some remarkable threads/comments about the film in the "Films and Filmmakers" Forum. Maybe 'MissGoddess' or 'lzcutter' can point the way for you. *"But I did not think that Hollywood was your last name or even part of your real name?"* - MMF But just yesterday, in a now deleted post from you, you referred to me as "Kyle In Cyberwood". Wanna try again? Kyle In Hollywood

*"I'm pretty darn obvious with Lang, aren't I?"* - FrankGrimes Transparent as a cotton dress without a slip. *"I'm pretty easy to please. Just throw me a bone, every once in a while, and I'm content. TCM Programmer has been doing fine by me. More than fine, actually."* Careful or you'll be given the scarlett "A" (for apologist) too. And does your "noir" interest include Mike Hammer too? I don't think *Kiss Me Deadly* has been seen for quite awhile. Kyle In Hollywood

*"If I was being sarcastic to you, it would've said Corporal Kyle. I was referencing the inclusion of Corporal Hargrove in the lineup. And the fact that most of these flicks are Hollywood entries, with few foreign films."* - MMF And whose post was your reply directed to? Corporal Hargrove's? Kyle (worshipping TCM?????) In Hollywood

*"What next, Corporal Hollywood?"* - MMF I suggest you knock off the demeaning sarcasm or you'll be working on creating another new account for yourself. Kyle In Hollywood Edited by: hlywdkjk on Feb 7, 2011 8:01 PM

*"Heck, "Scarlet Street" in primetime is all I need."* - FrankGrimes That caught my eye too. And the first thing to cross my mind is - "FrankGrimes will be so happy!" I hope you know, you and Fritz will be forever linked in my mind. Well, him and The Three Stooges. Kyle In Hollywood

*"The disabled was a required theme in one of the programming challenges. Maybe..."* - movieman1957 Yep. It was the Challenge moderated by 'sugarpuss'. It was quite a fun Challenge. And it had a lot inspired and inspirational material for the programming dept. to "steal". I hope they took notes. Kyle (Missing Ms. O'Shea) In Hollywood

*"The original poster of this thread is saying that her demographic is not being served, that's who."* - MMF And the "OP"s expectations for this month haven't been fulfilled on TCM for over _five_ years - ever since the Academy Awards ceremony was moved to February. It's a little late to be "disappointed." Why is this suddenly an issue in 2011? Perhaps she isn't the best representative of her demographic - or of a TCM viewer - as you may think. If TCM's African-American viewers look to the channel as an outlet for films with African-American themes, why did only one of all the Black Guest Programmers, when given that rare opportunity, make such a selection? *We are saying that the programming department could definitely do a better job meeting the needs of its diverse viewing audience..."* And if you truly believe that TCM doesn't deliver programming of interest to persons of color every year, your understanding of the channel and its history is woefully lacking - if not non-existent. TCM has demonstrated a commitment to presenting the works of and about minority groups consistently and whole-heartedly that is unique among all the "movie channels" on the dial. For anyone to say that TCM doesn't do enough when it already does so much more than most channels on cable is an injustice verging on slander. Kyle (And I am outta here) In Hollywood Edited by: hlywdkjk on Feb 6, 2011 11:59 AM to add an "of" - for clarity

If the selections of past Guest Programmers are any indication, for every African-American that may come to TCM looking for "Black History Month" features, there are many more that turn on the channel to see "31 Days Of Oscar" films. Only GP Evander Holyfield selected a "black" film (Cooley High) to present while along side Robert Osborne. Every other invitee chose films from the canon of "classic" movies - like *Stagecoach*, *Gunga Din*, *Beauty And The Beast*, *The Big Sleep* and *It Happened One Night*. (And *The Letter*, *The Maltese Falcon* and *Angels With Dirty Faces* too.) So who's to say that TCM isn't serving their Black audience members and giving them want to see this month? "FredCDobbs - Registered 01/06/06" Happy fifth anniversary "Dobbsy". Even though we've "knocked heads" in here (Scopes Trial?), you've made this place more interesting than most of those members that have come and gone from these Forums during the same five year period. Congratulations on your perseverence and thanks for your presence. Kyle In Hollywood

*"I'm trying to remember - didn't TCM show some black films back in June to celebrate "Juneteenth," "* - VX From perusing last year's "Now Playing", not during last June. Nor the June before - which was "Great Directors Month." I don't remember a "Juneteenth" celebration on TCM but I wouldn't put it past them to have done it at sometime in the past. I think "Juneteenth" should be a much more significant day of commemoration and remembrance to the African-American community than either "Martin Luther King Day" or "Black History Month". Observances for "Martin Luther King Day" should recognise _all_ efforts to end prejudice and bias in government and society - whether one is a person of color, a woman or a member of any minority class. (I always joke that only "Straight White Males" should have to work on MLK Day. Everyone else should get the day off.) And I think TCM feels the same way about the holiday. On the most recent MLK Day, TCM presented *Jim Thorpe, All-American* and *Crossfire* along with expected titles like *Something Of Value* and *The Defiant Ones*. Bravo! Kyle In Hollywood

Help! Can't get Photobucket to Work! Account in Jeopardy!
hlywdkjk replied to gagman66's topic in General Discussions
Won't just uploading an image or two to your account keep it active - even if you don't post it to an outside website? Why would the act of linking to a photo be necessary to keep it active? Kyle In Hollywood -
Disregard below. "sweetsmellofsuccess" has already been there/done that. kjk 'sewannie' mentioned "Summer Under The Stars" earlier. From "The Essentials" choices coming in August, perhaps one can deduce who four of the honorees are this year? August 6th - *Stage Door* August 13th - *The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance* August 20th - *A Place In The Sun* August 27th - *A Letter To Three Wives* From the titles above, the likely subjects are pretty common - but weekends during "SUTS" are typically turned over to the most popular stars. It is durng the week that some of the more adventurous names appear during "Summer Under The Stars." Feel free to re-post this info in the SUTS wish-list thread.
