  1. *"Love that PIP FROM PITTSBURGH poster, it is very much in the John Held Jr. style."* - Scottman Yeah. I guess I can see that. Kyle In Hollywood

  3. Thanks for the "shout out", 'talkietime'. That post seems to have struck a chord with (and stuck in the brain of) a lot of readers. But the link you provided was incomplete. One can read the earlier thread / post here - http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/message.jspa?messageID=8020095#8020095 Kyle In Hollywood
  4. With apologies to member 'mr6666', here's the list of films premiering during the 2011 "31 Days Of Oscar" Festival. (According to "Now Playing" and Arranged by Year of Release) Street Angel (1928) The Love Parade (1929) Skippy (1931) Cavalcade (1933) The House Of Rothschild (1934) Coney Island (1943) The House On 92nd Street (1945) Mother Wore Tights (1947) Miracle On 34th Street (1947) Joan Of Arc (1948) The Emperor Waltz (1948) Daddy Long Legs (1955) Bus Stop (1956) Inn of The Sixth Happiness (1958) The Hanging Tree (1959) Woman In The Dunes (1964) Star! (1968) Last Summer (1969) Z (1969) Cousin, Cousine (1975) Amadeus (1984) Under The Volcano (1984) Kiss Of The Spider Woman (1985) Do The Right Thing (1989) Pretty Woman (1990) Cyrano De Bergerac (1990) Thelma And Louise (1991) Forrest Gump (1994) Red (1994) Ali (2001) --------- I am suspicious that *Z* is a premiere though. I thought that was the "signature" film when TCM did "31 Days of Oscar - A to Z" some years back. But I could be wrong. Anyway, even the "premieres" are evenly divided between "pre-1970" and "post-1970". And every one the films from the '80s and '90s listed above are worth seeing. (Well, I can't speak for *Red*.) 5. I agree with each of you. When I first saw this image, all I could say was "Wow!". For a movie that I had never heard of to have such a striking image was a delight. But I was surprised today when I checked in on the film and saw that it was in B&W! What a disappointment. From the poster, I was thinking it would have been a technicolor feast for the eyes. In that sense, the U.S. version of the poster is more representative of the film, I guess. In July, the Italian poster sold at auction for a whopping $15.00. Kyle In Hollywood

  7. *"Kyle, Thank you very much for the response."* - Arnie Arnie, You're welcome. I know my response isn't an "answer" to your question but I hope it helped. Kyle In Hollywood
  8. *"I recorded Laurel and Hardy's Below Zero only to find out that the second half was missing. I've read several posts by TCM apologists who seem to feel that there are always acceptable reasons for missing video, missing audio, poor sound, movies running longer than the scheduled time window, etc."* - arnie13 I don't think any member here who has responded to complaints about broadcast quality issues has ever said they were _acceptable._ I know I haven't. All any of us can do is offer context to explain how it might have happened. *"Just once I'd like to read an explanation by someone at TCM who can explain the apparent lack of quality control on this station. My impression is that nobody really cares."* Believe me. They care. Alot. And just In case you didn't know what to look for. ---------- "What Just Happened To "A Star Id Born"?" "I should have weighed in on this sooner. We are absolutely aware that there was a problem with "A Star is Born" and we also do come to the message boards to see what our audience is saying. And I sincerely apologize for another glitch - and completely agree that there have been too many. As some have suggested there is a different department that manages the technical side, so I can't explain how it happened. But we all agree that there have been too many instances of this lately and there have been several conversations about how to make it better. " - 'tcmprogrammr' , October 2010 http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=8457525 ---------- "Gandhi As We Speak" "This was a technical problem, we're trying to figure out what happened. I apologize." 'tcmprogrammr', August 2010 http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=8439533 --------------- "What's Up With The "Park Row" Transfer?" "We're looking at the tape tomorrow. While I wasn't watching last night, I've run into this myself several times on the HD channel, but when I switched to the regular feed it was fine (suggesting the issue was with the bandwidth on HD channel and not on the master, which would be coming from the cable system). Which feed were you watching? Of course, if it was the same place in the film each time, that would be the tape, so we are looking into that." - 'tcmprogrammr', October 2010 http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=8458385 ------------------ "What? I Just Saw A Yaris Commercial on TCM" "It was a mistake, I promise. We will figure out what happened today, but definitely not on purpose." "We will figure out exactly what happened and let you know. There are hundreds of thousands of individual elements in the master control - every movie, short, promo, interstitial, ratings slate, etc. for TCM, plus everything for the other Turner networks (TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network, Boomerang). Each element is assigned an individual, unique number. It's possible 2 of those numbers were somehow mixed up. Believe me, this wasn't intentional. Our brand is too important to us to do something like this on purpose." "We figured it out, somebody typed a "Z" instead of a "2." That's it. I promise." 'tcmprogrammr', March, 2010 --------------- Hopefuly 'tcmprogrammr' will acknowledge your comments and offer an explanation to the situation that occured with *Below Zero*. I don't know. But I am sure they are aware of the issue and will attempt to "make good" with a do-over if it is possible. They program the channel for solely the enjoyment of the audience and understand how a "glitch" can make that impossible. TCM also understands that criticism of such issues is legitimate. 10. clashcat - "Mr.Dobbs" was kind enough to point you to where you can access the monthly schedule when at the website. And if you are interested, we can also point you to the full schedules for February and March. To get some further assistance with your email issue, you might want to post your request/query in the Tech Issues group of Forums. "General Issues" would probably be the best place to post your thread. http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/forum.jspa?forumID=328 Kyle In Hollywood
  11. Thanks you two. Glad you like them. I think the two Laurel & Hardy posters below are extraordinary too. Kyle In Hollywood

  14. *"Well, ironically, it is still in fancy restaurants, like the one in Mush and Milk, where it is usually called polenta."* - "Valentino"Xavier What? You mean "mush" is corn meal? Or "grits"? I always thought it was just plain old oatmeal. (Did you know that once one could buy "wheat meal" too? Maybe one can still can. I stay out of the cereal aisle.) We serve "polenta" where I work - but not in a bowl swimming in milk or cream. It's baked into a cake, then ladeled with bechamel cheese and sauteed mushrooms. And quite popular. 15. There's a definite issue going on in the TCM site. Last night there were some strange occurences in these Forums - missing "Welcome" notice and no "Control Panel" or "Private Message" links. But those have returned this morning. I am sure it will all get worked out eventually. But you're right. The homepage is wonky right now. It is accessible but doesn't look the way it should. 16. *"Laurence Olivier was reputedly so driven mad by Marilyn Monroe's difficult behaviour that he practically abandoned directing for the screen..."* - mr6666 Thanks for posting that. I can certainly sense that in the publicity photo shoot pictures. *"In the poster, I think Marilyn looks like Nanette Fabray."* - JackFavell And I can see that too! kjk
  17. And I always think the guy in the poster looks like Yves Montand. Glad you all like the image. And I was suprised to learn that I hadn't posted it before. It is a very popular image on the re-sale market. Original posters like the one posted today sell for around $2000.00. I wonder if Olivier didn't enjoy working with Monroe. There seems to be no "chemistry" between them as seen in these pics. Kyle In Hollywood
