*"edit: Ooh looks like April 2nd is actually a Saturday!"* - kinokima
I apologise for the error in my original post. The original press release I used to write it and quoted from listed the NYC date as "Monday, April 2nd". But the page for the screening at the "Road To Hollywood" site does list the date as being "Saturday, April 2nd".
I hope this change will make it easier for you to attend in April. (And begin checking for downloadable tickets on the 18th. The press release said tickets would be available on the 18th while the website says that they won't be available until Saturday, the 19th. But better to be safe than sorry.)

*"Kyle, Lynn sent me a private message and I got my tickets to North by Northwest here in Cleveland. THANK YOU for thinking of me!"* - Sandy K
Ya-HOO!!
I am so glad you got the message from Lynn. And I am thrilled you got tickets to the screening in Cleveland. When I read about that event, you immediately came to mind. (And I think of you quite often. Well, "miss you" and your presence around here actually.) I was so worried that the tickets would have been snapped up before you found out about the screening.
Have a great time, OK? And tell us all about it afterwards. (I hope the film is one you like.)

*"I'm curious .. did this info come in an e-mail? Nothing has shown up in my inbox. Did everyone else get it?"* - Wolfie
I did get an email too. But you can also read all about it at the links below -
http://news.turner.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=5571
http://news.turner.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=5572
And the info at the links is much more elaborate and includes other screenings not mentioned in the email. ( *West Side Story* and *The Devil Is A Woman*, among others. )

*"Thanks, Kyle. No need to put "outbursts" in quotes."* - swithin
Well, "rant" didn't seem to be an appropriate description while "tirade" was too over-the-top. By using "quotes", I was only trying to soften _my_ assessment of your post. And I'll admit to one or two "outbursts" in here myself. Venting can be a good thing.
And I bet that the total number of showings of *The Man Who Knew Too Much* and *The Thirty-Nine Steps* added together wouldn't approach the total number of showings that *North By Northwest* has had on TCM since 1994.

*"Thank you so much for taking the time to post this Kyle."* - Gregory1965
You're welcome. And it sounds like it was a good decision to post the line-up here in General Discussions.
I envy you and your partner. While *Rio Bravo* with Angie Dickinson in attendance sounds like soo much fun and Shirley Jones speaking about *Elmer Gantry* with Ben Mankiewicz is an exciting evening at the movies, a screening of *The Manchurian Candidate* with Robert Osborne and Angela Lansbury sounds perfectly sublime.
I hope the School Of The Visual Arts has a large auditorium/theater for the screening. And make sure you download the complimentary tickets ASAP on March 18th. Last year's screening of *All About Eve* at the huge Ziegfeld Theater "sold out" rapidly.

*"This is what the inside of the Paramount Theater looks like here in Austin. It's on the same street as the Capital! It's beautiful outside as well as the inside!"* - BSG
Thanks for posting the picture in here, "butterscotch". The interior is truly amazing.
And I bet "SueSue" has her eyes on taking over one of the boxes on the sides of the auditorium when she comes to the screening in Austin.

*"If it's not too expensive maybe I will try to get tickets for the NYC spot...* - kinokima
If, by expensive, you mean the cost of the tickets, there is no cost. The tickets are free. But if you are including the expense of travelling to NYC, then I can see how it might add up to a major outlay - especially if you decide to spend the night in the city.
I hope you do have the chance to attend. And I am sure TCM is aware that their Philadelphia viewers are feeling neglected once again. Maybe next year... *The Philadelphia Story* would be a great picture to show.

*"If you would get off your high horse ..."* - infinite1
Settle down, Bucko.
You've been on a two-week crusade over this issue and keep dragging it into topics which have no relevance to what is being discussed.
You act as if TCM is perpetrating a fraud that has harmed you personally. The "library" situation as it exists has been explained to you. What more do want - other than wanting to keep carping about it like it is a matter of National Security. Sheesh!
TCM does not _own_ a "library." Robert Osborne's use of the term "library" should not be interpreted as a claim that the channel does "own" a vast cache of films. Neither did Robert Osborne use the term "own." Your interpretations are the only thing causing this "controversy" - and it isn't incumbent on TCM to disprove your fallacious thinking.
But keep riding this horse if you must. It is only taking you further and further toward irrelevance.

*"Check my posts -- apart from my NBN complaints, you'll see my posts are never critical of TCM or of RO (whom I've had the pleasure to meet socially a few times)."* - swithin
That's very true. I've only known you to be a positive presence here. That's why I didn't take your "outburst" too seriously - at least in that TCM is going to heck..." way that others post in here. You're criticism is "valid" and expressed in a rational manner. At times, I have found myself exhasperated with programming decisions too. But not because of repeat presentations. (I actually wish The Essentials would be rerun on Sunday Afternoons again. I saw many more of the episodes on Sundays than I have on Saturday nights.)
But I would hate to think that you really believe that the Programming Dept. is getting --lazy-- careless in how they approach their work. The grouping of the "31 Days..." events around Oscar trivia was a wonderful way to bring something fresh to the series. And it had to be a major effort to get it to all work out so that the evening's programming started at 8pm/5pm every night.
As I've said, I like *North By Northwest* and don't mind seeing it on the schedule as often as it is. But I'll admit that I might think differently if *Vertigo* was being shown as often as *NBNw*.

Oh, I'm not. I find it very amusing. And I don't know whether to take the OP seriously or if it was some very clever troll post.

'butterscotchgreer' PM'd me a shot of the interior of the Paramount Theater in Austin. It is gorgeous. I hope she posts the photo here in the Forums too.

*"But the point I tried to make was an objective one about programming. The New York Philharmonic -- or any symphony orchestra -- has a huge variety of repertoire to choose from. If the most obvious classics were programmed frequently, the orchestra would be criticized."* - swithin
Oh, I understand where you're coming from. But let's not do the "apples and oranges" comparison. The New York Phil performs what? Maybe 120-150 concerts in a year? (And don't they "repeat" evening programs at matinee concerts?) Compare TCM to a Classical Music radio station and then ask if playing "Appalacian Spring" or Beethoven's 9th Symphony regularly is a poor programming decision.
Five or six years ago, this subject was debated at length when *Bringing Up Baby* was on TCM (seemingly) every month. That "discussion" gave birth to the "TCM Programming Challenge" which is still a feature of these Message Boards. At least the films in "heavy rotation" are iconic films that have earned their place on TCM.
It could be worse. As a cost-saving move, TCM could put a bunch of Public Domain titles in heavy rotation every month.

*"It must be a thrill for some of the posters here to point out every mistake Mr. Osborne makes while he is on camera."* - fxreyman
We used to have a member here that corrected everyone's grammar, spelling and typing errors - like "Joel Gray" instead of "Joel Grey" - along with a lecture on how that is disrespectful to the actor who was in the movie.

I guess I heard it too. I wasn't really paying close attention but I know Liza Minnelli and Joel McCrea came out of his mouth in the same sentence in the intro before *Cabaret*.
I hope these gaffes are just exhaustion and not the onset of RO's dottage. Of course, the teleprompter could have read "Joel Grey" while he said "Joel McCrea". I've done something similar. Everytime I see *For Pete's Sake* on the schedule, I keep thinking it is *What's Up Doc?*.
Wishful thinking?

Use the link in the first post of this thread and click on Austin.
(Ok, here it is again - http://www.tcm.com/2011/roadtohollywood/index.html )
But the tickets won't be "released" to the public for another month. You will be able to download one beginning April 2nd.
Are you gonna be able to sleep tonight?

YEA! That's great. I don't know if there is one here that I could be more pleased to hear that they are going.

And you want to know what is even better? The tickets are free!
You, Ben M. and Angie D. ! ! ! That sounds like so much fun. I'll be looking for your complete rundown of the evening.

The tickets for the NYC screening of *The Manchurian Candidate* on April 2nd won't be made available until March 18th. So you should still have a chance to get a seat.

For me *North By Northwest* is in the same category that *Casablanca* holds for other members. (Or *Gone With The Wind* - for a few around here.) I can watch it anytime and find pleasure in it. I can enjoy it as if I was listening to a favorite music recording which I have placed on "repeat." Of course, Bernard Hermann is responsible for some of that enjoyment too. It also has one of the best "bartender" lines found in any movie.
Why is it on so often? Well, it is the only film Hitchcock made for MGM - so TCM has always had special access to it. I am sure it is also very popular. Probably more popular than *Notorious* made for RKO and which TCM can also have special access.
But would we be having this discussion about Casablanca? I don't think so.
