I watched all three films. Loved them all especially "The Southerner" (thank you mongo) The thing that makes these films good (compared to Today's films) are the character Actors. "Our Very Own"- Joan Evans,Ann Dvorak ,Donald Cook & Natalie Wood. "The Southerner" with J. Carrol Naish ,Beulah Bondi ,Percy Kilbride ,Charles Kemper ,Blanche Yurka & Norman Lloyd (how can you go wrong). "I Want You" with Peggy Dow, Robert Keith ,Mildred Dunnock Ray Collins ,Martin Milner and even Jim Backus. That's not even counting the fine leads in these films.. Thanks for the heads up, I took off from work yesterday, just to catch these fine films.. vallo

Welcome Mornia, While the films in the 20's & 30's, like Anthony Adverse didn't have strict Animal Rights Laws like they have today. I don't think they would kill any horses for the sake of the film.I think it was special effects.. Fred Jackman did the special photographic effects for the film. vallo

He's in a film coming to TCM Mon. Feb. 19 12:00 AM TCM "The Band Wagon" American actor Robert "Smoki" Whitfield entered films in 1948, at a time when opportunities for black performers were still extremely limited. When he wasn't playing Pullman porters or family servants, Whitfield could usually be found in heavy "African" makeup as a tribal chieftain or medicine man. He was a regular in Monogram's Bomba the Jungle Boy series, playing a friendly native named Eli (in the first Bomba, however, he was called Hadji). Smoki Whitfield made his last film appearance in 1955. Try Here:http://imdb.com/name/nm0925929/ vallo
