    While the films in the 20's & 30's, like Anthony Adverse didn't have strict Animal Rights Laws like they have today. I don't think they would kill any horses for the sake of the film.I think it was special effects..

    Fred Jackman did the special photographic effects for the film.

    American actor Robert "Smoki" Whitfield entered films in 1948, at a time when opportunities for black performers were still extremely limited. When he wasn't playing Pullman porters or family servants, Whitfield could usually be found in heavy "African" makeup as a tribal chieftain or medicine man. He was a regular in Monogram's Bomba the Jungle Boy series, playing a friendly native named Eli (in the first Bomba, however, he was called Hadji). Smoki Whitfield made his last film appearance in 1955.
