Why Allan Jones was dubbed over Dennis Morgan
vallo13 replied to pandorainmay's topic in Information, Please!
I noticed that too Moira, There isn't a Bio here at the DataBase and not much at IMDb.com IMDb.com: MGM had Dennis Morgan under contract for the first few years of his career under his real name Stanley Morner. His most famous "role" was that of the singer in the A Pretty Girl is Like a Melody number of The Great Ziegfeld. Unfortunately somebody decided to dub Allan Jones's voice instead of Morgan's and poor Dennis was out in the cold until he got to Warner Brothers. They did make use of him here in this short subject about the origins of the song Annie Laurie and his pleasant tenor was just the voice for this old Scot's melody. Dennis had to wait for stardom at another studio, but this short subject does show the potential he had. vallo -
Anne: How true. as a kid I was outside more than I was in. Imagination was the thing that kids had back then. The best thing was my friends and I would going to the movies on Saturday and "PLAY" it the next day using what we call now action figures, back then it was "let's play "Guns" or "Cowboys" or Men! (meaning action figures) My 14 yr. old is glued to the computer, as soon as he's home from school. Then we wonder why kids now-a-days are getting fat and lazy. Get out and PLAY something...ball, catch, ride a bike ....something.... vallo

As a kid my brother and I would (role) play some of our favorite films. Like wear long-johns with no-shirts and play "The Crimson Pirate" /Capt. Blood/ Blackbeard etc.. Or play in the upstairs crawl-space pretending we were digging a tunnel like The Great Escape, or duel with sticks in front of our church like "Scaramouche"or The Master of Ballantrae.(Great Steps) The thing is WE HAD Imagination, no video-games, One TV No computer just FUN............ vallo Message was edited by: vallo13

Because the problem with all noir films from the classic period is that they were made in the days of the Production Code. And the Code stated all murderers must either a) get caught or get killed themselves. Spoilers********** I remember being a little PO'ed when the same thing happened in "Out of the Past". But that's Noir for you.... vallo

>"That brings up another interesting point : Did the code have anything to say about smoking? It's always seemed a little curious to me how common smoking was in the 40-50's films and how in this anything-goes age you hardly ever see anyone in movies or TV light up"< I think smoking in some films were props. Davis and Henreid got the point across by Him lighting up 2 cigarettes at a time. Bogart and Bacall In To Have and Have Not when she meets him by asking for a light. Even William Holden lighting a match off Neville Brands face in Stalag 17. So back then Smoking wasn't as Tabboo as todays standards. Now a days in films, you can sleep with everyone. But, "God Forbid" you Light -up... vallo
