>"That brings up another interesting point : Did the code have anything to say about smoking? It's always seemed a little curious to me how common smoking was in the 40-50's films and how in this anything-goes age you hardly ever see anyone in movies or TV light up"<
I think smoking in some films were props.
Davis and Henreid got the point across by Him lighting up 2 cigarettes at a time.
Bogart and Bacall In To Have and Have Not when she meets him by asking for a light.
Even William Holden lighting a match off Neville Brands face in Stalag 17.
So back then Smoking wasn't as Tabboo as todays standards. Now a days in films, you can sleep with everyone. But, "God Forbid" you Light -up...

While I did get a DVD player, I made sure to buy the combo DVD/VCR do to all the Tapes I own. I may buy a DVR (recorder) only to tape (pardon the pun) films from TCM. As long as I have a color TV, it doesn't have to be Plasma or an LCD.
Just work......

PS: The Red Rope maybe an option................

Since all the good ones were mentioned. I'd say a couple of Clint Eastwood's "Hang 'Em High" and "High Plains Drifter"

Stoney, Well maybe "Hate" is too strong of a word. But, many New Yorker's didn't care for him, do to his cheating on his wife, raising taxes, tolls, rents and even cleaning up 42nd. St. (which wasn't a bad thing) I'm not sure who will run. But ...No Way! another Bush.....(like the Bush in Florida)

> that Sal Mineo (didn't he die young and, if so, of what)???
From IMDB.comExpanding his repertoire, Mineo returned to the theatre to direct and star in the play "Fortune and Men's Eyes" with successful runs in both New York and Los Angeles. In the late 1960s and 1970s he continued to work steadily in supporting roles on TV and in film, including Dr. Milo in Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971) and Harry O: Such Dust As Dreams Are Made On (1973). In 1975 he returned to the stage in the San Francisco hit production of "P.S. Your Cat Is Dead". Preparing to open the play in Los Angeles in 1976 with Keir Dullea, he returned home from rehearsal the evening of February 12th when he was attacked and stabbed to death by a stranger. A drifter named Lionel Ray Williams was arrested for the crime and, after trial in 1979, convicted and sentenced to life in prison for the murder. Although taken away far too soon, the memory of Sal Mineo continues to live on through the large body of TV and film work that he left behind. Robert Osborne did mention this after the film.

Being from New York, most people "Hated" him on Sept.10th. But he became a hero on Sept. 11th. Voting for any Dem. or republican figure, it's the lesser of 2 evils...
IMHO

He did seem to lose weight. His face is thinner and he's not as barrel chested as he was before. Still the man rocks.....

Lon Chaney Collection should be out in 2007 which includes "Tell it to the Marines", "He who gets Slapped" and both versions of "Unholy Three" restored from the original camera neg.

While I usually purchase new. Sometimes I can NOT wait for certain films. Case in point-"Ace in a Hole" with Kirk Douglas. & Convicts 4. I brought it knowing it was a copy ,plays great, no complaints.(Classicflix) @ Amazon.com I check the seller they're usually honest and tell you the condition of the film if it is used (worn box, ex-rental etc...) So unless I have a receipts or warranty it's buyer beware!!

It could be "A Dog of Flanders" there is a 1960 version w/ Donald Crisp and David Ladd. But the movie was orginally made in1935 which wasn't as good as the 1960 one. Try Here:http://imdb.com/title/tt0052745/#comment

While I agree on the pacing in Satan. All three are good on their own merits
William played it smooth.(as always)
Ricardo Cortez wasn't bad, Really dressed sharp.
and Bogart played it.....well... like Bogart...
