  1. Stereotypical "Brooklyn accent" it has been widely supposed that he was. I was actually born in the Borough of Manhattan (New York City proper), in a midtown flat hard by the tracks of the long-since defunct Third-Avenue Elevated Railway. (Manhattan sections of the "El," as New Yorkers called it, were demolished circa 1956.)

Jut-jawed, broken-nosed and burly, began his acting career after the ravages of the Great Depression had killed his erstwhile grocery business. Having performed in nightclubs even while grocer, and having portrayed taxicab drivers in a series of Broadway flops. In 1939, portraying the cop his Hollywood feature debut came about in one of his few starring roles.

  2. Ben, while "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" may not have what your looking for. I would sit back and be scared by films like 1963's"The Haunting" One of the best and NO-BLOOD anywhere. it's the atmosphere that gets you.BOO!!

  3. Ben to me if filler. Lately I see a trend with hosts or even text during and prior to a film trying to find humor in everything. It is a good thing....sometimes. While a weekend host is totally unnecessary. I love the tid-bits and trivia Mr. Osborne comes up with daily, it makes the film a little more interesting from a real author, and film historian. But Ben's sarcasm is part of his personality, like it or not. Maybe he should host TCM underground.
