  1. Does this mean Cummings is miscast in "Saboteur"? It made me wonder if we get people so located in one genre that it makes it tough to buy them in anything else?
  2. A seldom heard Tchaikovsky work. "Serenade Melancolique. Op. 26"
  3. How thick am I not to notice such a feat as our MissG has accomplished? Congratulations on having reached such a magnificent milestone. For having entertained, informed, enlightened us and for being an all around swell gal - I thank you.
  4. Sorry I'm late to the party. My bride wanted to watch "The Picture of Dorian Gray." I do like "The Gunfighter." I mentioned Millard Mitchell for honorable mention in my short list of favorite characters. He plays a part that carries a wide flavor. He means business but has a great sense of humor. It has been awhile so I may get to it tomorrow. Peck is a man who seems to really want to get past the the life he had. The problem is no one will let him. He wants to make things right. Can a man lose what he was? Can he come around to what he and others always wanted/hoped he would be? There is the struggle. You can't always affect an outcome no matter how hard you try. Yeah, I like it. Come on Sir Francis. It will cost you around 90 minutes. Then we can all pick on each other.

  6. Some film music. David Grusin's lovely theme from "On Golden Pond." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQ1ybZ2ULk4

Maureen O'Hara 4-Conagher - Conagher - Sam Elliott. 5-Morgan Hickman - The Tin Star - Henry Fonda 6-Stella - Silverado - Linda Hunt 7-Quirt Evans - Angel and The Badman - Wayne 8-Frank Usher - The Tall T - Richard Boone 9-Jason McCullough - Support Your Local Sheriff. James Garner 10-Charlie Anderson - Shenandoah - Jimmy Stewart. Honorable Mention - Millard Mitchell - "The Gunfighter" and Hope Emerson - Westward The Women. It's a start anyway.
  8. Some serene music from Dvorak. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PH9YC5N0pZs&feature=related
  9. Sir Francis: Impressive, Homeric. I stand in awe of your lists. I am sure I would have trouble remembering 100 never mind 200. It makes for good reading.
  10. If it is shown late enough TCM doesn't have any editing. Having seen "Carnal Knowledge" during one sleepless night I can say anything goes.
  11. Another wacky film is "Double Wedding." Screwball comedy fits this as well as any description. Powell wore a suit like few other men. (Not really in "Double Wedding.") They were always well tailored, fashionably classic and very stylish.
  12. That is wonderful. I love the power of the beginning. There are plenty of chamber and orchestral works to discover. He also had an interesting and sad life.
  13. When the time is right I'll bring something from Schumann's "Spring" Symphony.
  14. or the woman who is surprised when her husband takes another cup of coffee because he never does it at home. What is more topical than spoofing old commercials? For us (me) so much of the fun is in the casting. As I mentioned several before it is those people, Peter Graves included, that just by who they are makes what they say so much funnier because it is so unlike what we know them to be. It just takes it to a whole different level. I know many younger people (that is amazing enough) that love "Young Frankenstein" but have never seen the, nor seem to be interested in seeing the original "Frankenstein." I encourage them because once you know what is being spoofed then you will find it even more fun to watch.
  15. That one and the Air Israel flight that has a plane with the beard and the shawl. The only sad thing is now that the film is getting older some of the topicality of it isn't as obvious. So many younger folks who like this film don't get to fully appreciate how funny the Billingsley jive bit is. Even the Jabbar run in with the boy now needs some explanation. Who knew Stack and Bridges and especially Nielsen could be that funny.
  16. I prefer short hair on a woman. I had to convince my bride to cut hers years ago. She was sorry she didn't do it sooner. Seeing Veronica with short hair was such a surprise because the long version became so famous. She is lovely no matter how she wears it.
  17. I like her in short hair. The one in th bathing suit is funny because she is so far up on her toes,
  18. Good. When I saw it last fall I thought something was wrong with me. Glad to know it wasn't anything more than usual.
  19. >I'd like to know what you see in noir films that makes you enjoy them. My appreciation of noir comes primarily from this group of posters. What were once just edgy dramas based on the way they look and inhabited by desperate people are now films full of underlying emotions, visuals, sets and moods. This group has made it richer and deeper. Many noirs are full of desperate people. They are desperate to get ahead, get back at someone, get in good with someone or get involved in a situation they found themselves in that, for whatever reason, they must find a way to get out of - and fast. The really good ones, to me, are full of tension and even fear. People are caught up in a force bigger, greater or more powerful than themselves and it is all they can do to survive if they do at all. Everyone is tough or thinks they are but that doesn't always keep them out of trouble. I have little to add to anyone's lists. Everyone is far more knowledgeable than I am as to the vast group of these films. I usually find new ones to watch by whatever you talk about. I maybe could add "Ride The Pink Horse." "Murder My Sweet" and "Pitfall" (if it counts) onto a list.
  20. Fred is right. I didn't mean "brown" in any kind of ethnic sense. It is, at worst, an ugly looking film to see. They probably would have been better off shooting it in black and white - and starting it right after the college scene. I have no doubt our history, even in the west, was full of greedy people who, with little or no law, did what they wanted. I am also pretty sure our nation is not unique in that department.
  21. All of you are knuckleheads and I don't know how I'd get through the day without you. Thanks.
  22. I hope if you and "Jackie" get to watch it "Eroica" then we could talk about it. I find it more fascinating then brilliant. Some fictional hurdles can be set aside but it is an interesting film.
