  1. Charles Drake, who played Shelley Winters boyfriend, is one of the biggest cowards on screen. It is easy to be annoyed by him. Kudos that he played the part though. I have a very dear friend that I keep an eye out for movies on the schedule for. I'll have to make a "Kathy List" as well. Shopping on line is safer than you think. I have some friends who were married after shopping on eHarmony. On second thought....
  2. >Both The Man Behind the Gun and Westbound have Scott as an army officer going undercover and involved in Civil War intrigue. I think "The Man Behind The Gun" was the one I was remembering. Thanks.
  3. Hello Kathy: *Springfield Rifle* has turned up on the Westerns channel. (Can't remember if you have it.) I got mine from Netflix. *Winchester '73* is one of my favorites. Stewart is terrific with his newer personna. Dan Duryea is great as a really nasty guy. Stephen McNally is pretty good too. The climactic gunfight is really exciting and sounds, seemingly, quite realistic. It is among the first of the "adult" westerns and I think has more of an edge than nearly anything else being produced at the time. Certainly more so than the de Toth films but they were of a different nature. Of course Grandpa Walton (Will Geer) even briefly as Wyatt Earp is a bit hard to get used to.
  4. From *Black Adder* to *Mr. Bean* that is quite a range. My favorite "Bean" is when he falls asleep in church.
  5. I meant the couple of films not the people. Ignore you? Never. You can bet I'll have those of this group on the boards. I already have everyone's photo saved so I can refer to you when needed. April is much cuter than you. Although that is a nice suit. I saw you on the 15 second spot last night. They barely gave you enough time to shake Robert's hand until they moved on to someone else. You bet I'll be taping your choice. I am one of the great masses who has never heard of your film so that I may be up on things I'll be checking yours out. See you on the big red chair.
  6. Thinking about it now it seemed it would have fit quite well with Scott. That's no knock on Cooper. Didn't Scott do something similar where he played a stagecoach agent or something similar? I would agree that the title had been tacked on. It really had so little to do with the movie but I guess something more appropriate may have left the western sensibilities out of it.
  7. >I have all these little scraps of old envelopes and post it notes, that have all my many musings about certain films.. Hey... do you think that means we are... "abnormal?" Ha. I sometimes take notes too. I found that if you are going to play in this league you have ot be prepared. I guess I need to dig out "Harvey" now too. I am so behind.
  8. You can bet the couple I want to keep with this group hosting will certainly include the WHOLE broadcast.
  9. I watched Gary Cooper in *Springfield Rifle.* First off the title could be considered quite misleading. The object of the title doesn't show up in any fashion until the climax of the movie. Until then it is only hinted at in the first minute or two and then completely forgotten. That aside, this is a decent Civil War era story of that is really about a band of outlaws supplying horses to the South at the expense of stealing them from the Union army. TO say more would spoil the plot. The movie is helped by terrific location settings. Cooper is his usually stalwart self. (Good thing.) He is well supported by largely unknown but familiar looking cast. Not great but ok.
  10. In some cases I already have the movies so I will be taping at least the intros and exits of the gang here. I think Lynn made mention that the films are scheduled early or late depending on where that fan lives. Their time corresponds to their time zones prime time.
  11. For you Campbell fans keep an eye out on the Biography and A&E channels. Chris Isaak has a talk show there and he recently had Campbell on. I only saw a few minutes but Chris has an interesting take on asking questions.
  12. Darn! I only caught the 15 second promo. Tell me there is a longer one to look for.
  13. Who else would have been bold/crazy (you pick) enough to do Grieg's "In The Hall Of The Mountain King"?
  14. I had them all. "However..." is from "Love Decides." I waited 18 years for that album. Then she did her Christmas album. Find "The Best Side of Goodbye" as well.
  15. He may have. I came across an intro from a few years ago and he certainly looks thinner in his face then he did before.
  16. >Who said they like Jane Olivor? She has a great voice, and reminds me of Edith Piaf... very emotional. That was me. I am stunned to find anyone else who knows her much less likes her. I have seen her several times in concert and it has been such a joy. I met her at a CD signing a few years ago. I already had it so I brought an old album for her to sign. She was very gracious about it. I told her that before I met my wife I spent more time in my basement with her than anyone else. She said she was flattered. I can deal with the rare song I don't like because the good stuff is so good. "However Dark The Night" should have been a hit.
  17. My favorite ELO song is probably "One Summer Dream." It is not a terribly difficult song but it has that feel to it that it is a dream. Favorite album is "Out of The Blue." So many different styles in that album. Lynne was very interesting with chord progressions and arrangements. It was a unique sound.
  18. Kathy: I find it interesting that your favorites are "Blackwater" and "What A Fool Believes" as I can't imagine two more different songs in their whole catalog. There may be but not being a big fan I wouldn't know. I see we have a fondness for ELO. What do you like about them? BTW, everyone keep those lists coming.
  19. I've never been all that fond of the Doobie Brothers. (I hate "Black Water.") Some of their other songs I like but I always found it interesting how they changed so fundamentally when Michael McDonald showed up and remained so popular, I assume, with the same fans. So, the question is, how did your affection for the group change as the band changed?
  20. There were only a handful of Sniffles cartoons but "Bedtime for Sniffles" is a Christmas must at our house. Otherwise, I like Bugs, Foghorn Leghorn, Yosmite Sam and Marvin The Martian the best.
  21. I can only take Dylan as a writer. Never could get him as a performer. Favorite song writer not already on my list - Jimmy Webb.
  22. Not nearly as eclectic as the rest of you so.... _Males_ Andy Williams Johnny Mathis John Gary Dan Fogelberg Christopher Cross _Females_ Jane Olivor Karen Carpenter Carly Simon Amy Grant Linda Ronstadt (though I'm not always crazy about her sone selection) _Groups_ The Beatles The Moody Blues (especially Justin Hayward) ELO Bee Gees Alan Parsons Projeect Message was edited by: movieman1957
  23. >Notice the uncomfortable look that Francie has on her face.... She just looks mad. My thanks to each of you for this discussion. I've had it taped for a couple of weeks but life being what it is has conspired against my watching it yet. I'm trying. If I don't get too far behind I hope to have something worthy of adding. Hoever, based on what all of you have written that will take some doing.
  24. *Kathy:* Dreaming big was what I had hoped the rest of us could do when I thought of putting up this thread. (I also hoped it could give a boost to the whole program as we are getting close.) Thanks for your comments. Wonderful pick too. *Chip:* Thanks for the wonderful comments on your movie. *"Cinemaven" (notice the quotation marks.)* Only Friday the 19th. My first mistake on Saturday was getting out of bed. Message was edited by: movieman1957. I needed to respond to others as well as Kathy.
