  1. *IT'S GRAND. IT'S EXCITING. IT'S OFTEN INTERESTING. AND IT'S COMING TO A THREAD NEAR YOU!!!* _It's the 12th Edition of The Programming Challenge!_ Got those post holiday blues? Wondering how you'll get through January? Well, do what 4 out of 5 board members recommend - submit a schedule for the Programming Challenge. Here is what some board members say - "It's fun." "It's satisfying just to complete a schedule." "Who knows, maybe TCM will use one of my ideas." "I like competing against the best." "Chris won! How did that happen?" For the first time in 2009 you have a chance to be the best of the best. A chance to be held in high regard by several people on this board. So get those holiday decorations put away. Get a pen and a movie guide. Put out the cat and get your brain in gear because this may be the most important thing you do this month. (Well, it could.) Get ready for the 12th edition of THE PROGRAMMING CHALLENGE. Beginning January 12th. Look for details soon.
  2. Well, you brought up the secret handshake. If we are a clique it is because some of us have been here several years. We have a realtionship. Some of us are friends. That doesn't make anything exclusionary but if it is a clique, which I would argue that it is not, like any other group you ease your way in. When some new people come on it is easy to ignore those who may have a complaint about something that we have covered numerous times before. All that could be said has been said. Is about being ignored or do you feel ridiculed? I want to understand your position. People will repsond, or not, based on what one has to say and how they say it. People, as a rule, aren't going to get a lot of grief just because they are new.
  3. Scott is always a personable character and fits the cowboy so well. He was Star of The Month a year or two ago so there are plenty of movies to see.
  4. Re: Two Rode Together. Please let us know.
  5. I don't quite get the post counting thing. (although I did have a very nice party on my 3000th.) April. you always post wonderful stuff. I always second guess myself and wonder whether I have anything to add. I'll often stop after I've started and think it doesn't matter and delete it.
  6. 36. "It looks just like your mother when she yawns."
  7. Lynn: I've already seen the new "31 Days" promo a couple of times. Just like last year's only enhanced with a kind of 3D effect. Nicely done.
  8. 35. "Oh, you only want him to play dead."
  9. Coaching - I'm no Jets fan but how do they let their coach go when he turned that team around? He gets saddled with Favre and still manages a winning record but the AFC has some great teams how else can you explain the Patriots not making it? Then there are the Ravens. Even if they don't get past the first round this has been far above anyone's expectations.
  10. Is she still in the piece? I seem to remember someone said that a person with that first name was lifted and replaced with Van Johnson. Not sure though.
  11. One problem is when they shoot Stewart in the hand. If you notice the way he is held the bullet goes through his hand and would hit the guy holding him. Stewart gives what seems to be a pretty authentic scream.
  12. Watching it as I type I'm reminded of how loyalty goes whichever way the wind blows. Crisp threatens Kennedy with firing him (or worse) if it will help his son but offers to reward him for his continued babysitting. "Dave" is such a wus that babysitting is all it can be called. Despite all the trouble Crisp is anxious to have Stewart work for him. Again, respect for standing up for himself. Indeed Stewart becomes a third son of sorts later in the picture. More later...
  13. One of my favorite Carson roles is in "Pfffft" with Jack Lemmon. Trying to teach him how to be a playboy is really an exercise in futility,
  14. One film that does resemble "The Man From Laramie" in part of its story line is "Last Train From Gun Hill." They both deal with fathers who are aggravated with sons who are not what they were expected to be. They are weak, selfish and entitled. None of that makes Dad happy. In "The Man From Laramie" the most complex relationship runs with Stewart and Kennedy. I think they earn a respect for each other after the fight. At times they get along and at times they argue. They are both loyal to Crisp but in different ways. Crisp then has to deal with his affection for both. Someone is not going to he happy.
  15. I'm ready for "The Man From Laramie" anytime. Any of the Stewart westerns are good. "Naked Spur", "Bend Of The River" whichever makes anyone happy.
  16. Kyle: After reading your post I went nack and looked at the last two years and there are similar touches in those. While not as many as this year in '07 the sond has the lyric "and walked away" and several shots match that throughout by having the actor turn and leave. '06's was only occasional but did match in one or two places. One thing I noticed that is common is that only once in this year's, last years' and in the 2001 is dialogue from a movie used. (I don't recall that dialogue was used for '06.)
  17. > may sell the Mozart to get my Ford at Fox, and I'll just pray my dad doesn't ask me to play Eine Kleine Nachtmusik...... If I didn't have such a large Mozart collection already I'd take you up on it. Lots of good music. I got "Flags of Our Fathers" and the Marx Bros collection with their first five films. (That was on my list.) I don't get DVDs too often as nobody really knows what I have so they go for other things.
  18. Hi Anne: The stateroom scene from "A Night At The Opera" is nothing more than a gag. They've booked a cabin on an oceanliner with the idea that a couple of them will stow away. The problem is they got the smallest cabin. Since it is already crowded it only makes sense for many more to show up. Eventually the door is opened and they all spill out into the hallway. It shows better then it reads. (The purpose for it being posted was a little fun over my having reached 3000 posts, if that was more what you were asking. I wasn't sure.)
  19. > Didn't realize you were so popular. I'm not. They heard there were M&Ms.
  20. Mica was the first one to notice even before me. Thanks Mica. Thank you all so much. I hope the posts have been worth your time. Look at the people waiting to get in to the party.
  21. My other favorites are here too. Hail Freedonia!
  22. Sounds like "Born Yesterday" with Judy Holliday, William Holden and Broderick Crawford. Great film that you can get on DVD and has been a regular on TCM.
  23. April: Thank you. Any picture of Stan and Ollie is a welcome sight for me. Kathy: I did see TCM had it listed which is great. I already have the DVD that has some extra goodies on it as well. You pick the day and we'll get started. Chocolate cake for everyone!!
