  1. April: If he's single and treats you like the lady you are, go for it.
  2. April: Remember Bull was the one that found Dan. The other two were content to bring in Mr. Wimpy. Choose your matchmaker carefully dear.
  3. Thanks. I look forward to comparing notes.
  4. Thank you Kathy. Now that you mentioned their arrival I remember you said it looked like they were sent. I more had the impression they had arrived. That may not seem like much of a distinction but it is a different impression for me. I do think the importance is they are introduced and you know who they are from afar. Of course the hats are the giveaway but it does create a mythic type of aura to them. That may be a clue they are not what they seem.
  5. Kathy, April, Michaela and "Frank" and all: In "3 Bad Men" Mr. Ford answers in 10 minutes the age old question - "Are men a sucker for a pretty face?" The answer is yes, most emphatically. These big, bad, long wanted by the law in three countries outlaws turn to pudding the first minute they inadvertently rescue a pretty girl. Good for them. No man is too far gone to have the goodness there brought out. Their friendship shows that there is some depth in their heart. Without they would never stay together except for their own greedy benefit. Clearly the relationship has been one of benefit to the whole and with it a bond that takes them all to a place where they are redeemed, so to speak, together. Rarely have I seen a more charming group of lead characters. George O'Brien is among the most genial and endearing actors I have found. He is most comfortable on camera and seems so natural. Too bad his popularity didn't last and that we don't see more of him. The whole cast turns in fine performances. A film that is half romantic comedy and half dramatic western works so well on so many levels. It is an exciting picture. It is BIG. Lots of stunts, action, cast members and scenic shots make this fun to watch. The humor is fun. At times a bit risque. Mainly around the scenes in the husband hunt. After thoroughly going over the one man as they would a horse they peg him as an effeminate type. The line "as long as a man's heart in the right place it doesn't matter what sex he is" rings true for him as he is recurring in scenes to show how weak he is. The humor continues when Bull is holding Dan's hand and asks if he is married. Then to tell the two that he has found his man. ' I liked the irony of fire. On one hand the church is burned down but also used to light the way for the rescuers and then as funeral lamps as Bull carries his sister down the stairs. The land rush scene seems to have been lifted by Howard for "Far and Away" as someone mentioned. Some of the stunts appeared to have been accidental and used for their authenticity. Great stunts all around. A massive undertaking that was well done. The final thing is that the men bound by their honor to each other fight over who stays where to fight off the approaching mob. They all seem to find in this attempt to save their girl they now find their redemption in an honorable death. They die for the greater cause. They know they weren't bad men after all. They just thought they were. P.S. I hated the score on the DVD. I would not condemn anyone's gift but I often thought it ill suited to a scene and not always a pleasant sound. She turned the land rush into a hoe-down. Moments of lovely music were far too few. Message was edited by: movieman1957
  6. >we had a good time watching Magical Mystery Tour with The Beatles, which is from 1967 and shows it in every way you could possibly imagine. Is anyone here a fan of the Beatles? I seem to remember someone who was, but I can't remember who. Count me among them. "MMT" is interesting only as a curiousity. However, I would mention that "I Am The Walrus" is a very interesting video to a great song. Hardly anyone, Beatles included, thinks much of it. It seems to be a result of too much power, too much money and a bit of an ego.
  7. Kathy: Nope. I'm sorry I missed it. Sounds like one of those spaghetti western titles. Michaela: It was on the Encore's Westerns channel. I don't have HD so I'm not sure if it comes in that format.
  8. Morning all: Last night I watched "Westbound" with Randolph Scott (cue chorus) Andrew Duggan and Karen Steele. It was ok. It is not on the same level with the other Scott/Boetticher films. There doesn't seem to be enough tension or excitement built up. Part of it may be I've never cared much for Duggan's work but the whole thing felt kind of like a TV episode. Nearly half of the film feels like set up. I think I read someone say it was the only one of the set Burt Kennedy didn't write and that may be part of it. In fact the movie reminds me more of Scott's early 50's films than anything else of the Scott/Boetticher films. Watching Karen Steele is pleasant enough though. Not bad, just not great.
  9. The 1933 "Little Women" was a late substitute. They had planned to air "The Holly and The Ivy" but apparently ran into a problem. As far as the rest of your inquiry. A search will bring you any number of answers. It all boils down to what they can get and for how long they can have it.
  10. rayallen: Thanks for bringing up the picture. Couldn't figure it out. Here is one at home. My Maureen helped on this one.
  11. Thank you rayallen. I couldn't figure how to get it on from my pictures file to here nor copy it as you have. Thanks. I feel like that today.
  12. If I can figure out how to get it on here you can see it. I can't find it on the internet so it's even more frustrating. Then again we are talking about ME. However, here is the link to where Miss Gulch posted it first. It's near the top of the page. It involves the cannon. http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/thread.jspa?messageID=8156401 (Any ideas to show it would be helpful.) Message was edited by: movieman1957
  13. Kathy: A wonderful commentary. It has been so long since I've seen it. I put it on my Netlix list and should be here Saturday. Hopefully early next week won't be too late to join in. I have several double sided DVDs. Some come as a "two-fer." A couple of them are widescreen on one side and full screen on the other. I found that out accidently when the box of one showed in widescreen but I found the full frame side first. April is right unless you have really good eyesight it is hard to tell if you have the right side on.
  14. The river scene in "Two Rode Together" is a little over 4 minutes.
  15. I have the fox trained to where he'll just lay 'round my neck for hours.
  16. I did not. I hope it continues to work. Thanks.
  17. It is the first time I won. I was kidding someone that I broke my streak. I was 0-6 or something like that. My biggest fear was winning. I have some great people to follow, Kyle, Lynn, "sugarpuss", "filmlover" and other fine hosts. I don't want people saying "And then there was the one Chris had...."
  18. >You mean the programming challenge, Chris? That would be an awesome idea. I'm sure there's quite a few folks here who could come up with some terrific schedules. I do indeed. It will be coming shortly after the holidays when everyone gets settled down. I'm hoping for lots of people. It is fun and it will help make it as good, hopefully, as some of the great challenges before.
  19. I did. In fact I thought it was more recent then you indicated in your post but it appears it was that showing.
  20. It's easy to forget because outside of only one character does anyone remotely sound European in the film. In fact for the sole purpose of location it would have made as much sense to set it in New York or Philly.
  21. I had *Two Rode Together* out last night and was checking for something but not that. I'll have to check again.
  22. There's theme for the next challenge. Great Cattle Drives.
  23. It's a lovely film. Just forget that it takes place in Budapest.
