It's a lot of things. It is an adventure. The code of the way people handled themselves and situations. It's about strong men doing things they are honor bound to do or just because it is the right thing to do. A time that has passed by in the way people lived. It is the community that existed though they may be miles apart that I can't get to with the people across the street. There is a loyalty among even the bad guys that is to be envied. It is the seeming freedom to get up and go and know you can start somewhere else. Men are hard and tough. The women are too because the time required it. Building something from nothing. There is danger in them thar hills and there is excitement and tension in their going and discovering and settling. It is action. The chase, the riding, the gun play. The frequent fearlessness of the fights and the determination that goes into winning knowing they could be killed themselves at any minute yet they go on. The determination to get through it all. It is about places I can't go and things I can't do. It is a lot of things.

I can think of some endings where a couple go off together but the wagon doesn't jog my mind. I'll have to pay closer attention.

Hi April: I'm glad you thought enough of my idea to steal it. I'll be interested to see what this fine group says.

April: In some ways I can see where the basics of the story, experienced veteran helping the new guy compares, but they go to different ends or at least for different purposes. Perkins wants to learn to be as good as he can be and to do the job. Perkins soon realizes he can't be that good on his own. Stewart thinks he can, dare I say, reform Valance by the legal channels he hopes to employ. No way can Stewart win from that point. Perkins is at least getting to where he stands a chance.

These Are A Few of My Favorite Films: Yeah...Another List.
movieman1957 replied to CineMaven's topic in Your Favorites
_Theresa:_ Interesting list. There are some things I've never heard of. New things to check out. _filmlover:_ I think you lead the league in musicals. More interesting things to look for. -
"Godfrey" might be the most fun. Maybe "Kato" from the Pink Panther movies. Not many would be anxious to have fights with you and stop to answer your phone.

Speaking of lasagna - my wife was ever so disappointed when she found out that her totally Italian grandmother's lasagne was really a recipe she got from an Irish woman. Ah, the Italians only know how to make lasagna for 45 people. Nothing like having the noodles laid out on a towel on the kitchen table to make things interesting. I'll take lots of meat in mine too.

Hi Theresa: I timed my Netflix list so that we could get it for this weekend. I was mad at myself for missing it when it came on PBS as I have loved the whole series. We are looking forward to it. My wife is funny when there is a multiple part show in that she likes to start the second one as soon as we finish the first. Have you seen "The Lost Child" of the "Prime Suspect"? That one nearly did me in. Some of the finest acting I've seen on a television production. Recently when we went through the "Cracker" series she wanted to start all over again as those are that good as well. I'm get back with you on the PS after we watch it. I hope we'll talk some more before. Me

Susan: This is great news. My music minister at church has been fighting pancreatic cancer for about 18 months and his progress is so good that he has been taken off all of his treatments and they are planning some kind of surgery that could make him cancer free. T owatch him now you'd never know he had been sick. I wish the same for you. Hang in there. Great progress has been made in this area so I pray for continued success in your treatment. Chris

I didn't say it often enough but thanks for giving us these great images. It is great to be able to look back on them. You do wonderful things here and it is much appreciated. Looking forward to more when you can. P.S. Also a schedule in the next challenge. -
These Are A Few of My Favorite Films: Yeah...Another List.

Nothing eclectic here. Next week you might get a different list. These are some of the films I like to watch the most. Duck Soup The Quiet Man Silverado Help! How Green Was My Valley The Big Country The Adventures of Robin Hood The Cameraman Palm Beach Story You Can't Take It With You Easy Living The Man From Laramie Bridge On The River Kwai Babe Seven Days In May Inherit The Wind My Favorite Wife Roman Holiday Gunfight At The OK Corral Vivacious Lady Not many dramas but they aren't always as much "fun" to watch. -
Good morning. Probably not quick enough for this discussion. Nextweek being Thanksgiving and I'm having a long weekend with my bride this weekend and "Prime Suspect 7" promised to her,no doubt all of you will be bored with "Eagles" by the time I get to it next month.

Ford at Fox... and RKO, and MGM, and WB, and Columbia...

April: This is why I love your commentary so much. You bring out things that goof balls like me wouldn't pick up. Colors and location of actors in a shot are not always obvious to me so to have you point them out will make viewing much more interesting. Your thoughts are deep, accessible, nicely appointed with the screencaps (which I haven't the slightest idea how to do) and thought provoking. Thanks. I appreciate your sharing your thoughts. Chris -
> {quote:title=FrankGrimes wrote:}{quote} > My unwatched DVD > list is currently over 350, and that's not an exaggeration. My goodness. Does it pay to even keep recording? Mine is only at about 30 and I thuoght I was way behind. We could start a "Pick Frank's Next Movie" and fix it for you but the time you'd spend putting up your list you could watch two or three of them.

Several. We haven't watched it in a couple of months though. It's a fine film and Fonda and Perkins are quite good together. (Sorry for the edit but it didn't come out right.)
-
I have and like it very much. My daughter even likes it. We have our own copy. I would enjoy a discussion very much.

I have no idea what all of you are eating before you go to bed but it is starting to worry me.

Kathy: "Lost Horizon" is a wonderful fantasy film. Colman and the rest of the cast, including a very young Jane Wyatt are quite good. It's a big budget type with an exotic location and story. If it is the restored version it will catch you off guard when the restored part is inserted. I think it was that they found a reel of the dialogue but couldn't find the video reel. They inserted the sound and filled the picture with a collection of stills. Put up a picture of Sam Jaffe when he's talking and a picture of Colman when he is talking. It is not long but there is no warning when it shows up. It's a lovely film. You should enjoy it.

Theresa, my dear: After hearing about your mother the other day I had to share this with you. The Baltimore Sun in their review today of "Quantum Of Solace" talk about Judi Dench's "M." "She and Craig get more rhythm going than anyone else in the movie. He's the rebel with a cause. She's the mother figure as dominatrix." I did see also where CNN said she brings out the only warmth Bond shows in the movie. Go Judi. Chris

"Will Sonnett" was one that ran for two seasons around 1969. Walter Brennan played a grandfather who was taking his grandson on a mission to find the boy's father (his son.) Each episode was about what they found in a town and how they (not surprisingly) usually missed him by a couple of days. It is on DVD.
