So when the music stops everybody try and grab the burger. Losers split the fries. Get ready, get set....

Hi April:
I'm so glad you enjoyed the film. Oddly enough I haven't gotten around to watching it. Who knows whether TCM will play it again but we can hope.
BTW, the last one goes out tonight.
-
Thank you all very much. I'm very flattered that such scheduling experts liked it. Kyle, I'm sorry I jumped your theme but in some small way happy that I was on the same path as you.
-
3D movies aren't completely dead as I saw one at The National Air and Space Museum in DC. It was shot with two satellites and dealt with exploration of the sun.
Broadcasting 3D is a whole different thing though.
-
Thanks so much. Glad there are some things you like. "Somewhere In Time" is one of my wife's favorites and I think it has one of the most beautiful music scores ever.
-
You two will just have to go for us.
-
Ordinary is ordinary whether it is now or the end of the month. As usual I hope it is fairly straightforward for any explanation.
A couple of birthday celebrations and some random themes. The three primary themes are "The Art of Science" where I show some funny and some not so funny movies where science is the main point. A night of movies on The Alamo on the anniversary. And a Saturday afternoon full of movies directed by actors who normally don't do it. Jack Lemmon is my SOTM.
Now I can stop worrying about it, maybe.

Lynn:
How funny that three days ago we were talking about "Heaven's Gate and several people have pointed out that it is on December's schedule.
You never know.
-
I saw this several months ago when TCM ran it. It is beautifully photographed. I also like Widmark and Taylor. The only problem I had is it seemed to drag a little through the middle but it does set up a pretty good climax at the end.
If you like Widmark you should check out "Warlock" if you haven't already.

Kathy:
Sir Francis has given you a very good list of box sets. Most of those titles are also available individually for $10 or little as $7.50 (at least they were earlier this week.)
If you like Randolph Scott there is a box set coming in Nov of films he did with Budd Boetticher. Lots of folks are looking forward to this one too.
-
Thanks Lynn. I had wondered whether even from a historical standpoint (knowing what it did to UA) if it was worth a look.
-
"Vivacious Lady" is a wonderful film and is finally getting some more frequent play.
-
Peter O'Toole and Sophia Loren in "Man of La Mancha."
-
>I have insomnia!
We should talk.
BTW, two are on the way today.
-
Changing the subject for a moment. "Visual Feast" brought up the title "Heaven's Gate" in another thread and I was wondering if anyone had seen all of it.
I saw about 20 minutes one time and it was a shootout in the second half of the picture. I have to agree with Roger Ebert(?) for at least this part that is was the brownest western I have ever seen.
Was it as bad as they say? I have a TV movie coming called "Johnson County Wars" soon and though it covers some of the same problems I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts.

Re: A Star Is Born
You're right in that Cukor directed the 1954 version. Wellman directed the 1937 version.
-
Rover27 has no idea what he/she is talking about.
-
Yes, "The Big Trail" is above the rest as it was an "A" picture. I didn't mean "How The West Was Won" as a Duke film but as one to discuss as it has been running recently. If you want to stick with Wayne films it suits me. I've seem them all and nearly all those you are working your way through.
-
>I like all six.
Me too. Interesting grouping.
His 1930's films are that really that good except for a laugh.
-
It's been years since I've seen "The Red Pony" and am out on the other two. If you want to talk Mitchum westerns I can only go on with "Pusued", "El Dorado,"
If you want to kill some time on McCrea (befiore we get SIMC later in the month) I have "Colorado Territory", "Gunsight Ridge", "Trooper Hook", "The Outsiders."
We could do a popular one like "Red River" or even a modern one like "Unforgiven" or "Dances With Wolves." There's a new remastered version of "How The West Was Won" running on the westerns channel and Comcast On Demand.
-
Thankfully I can say I am in great health. I come from good stock.
-
April and Kathy:
Pick us a western. Since we blew "3:10" in the other thread we need one here.

My apologies for being late in congratulating the really good schedules put up. It is easy totell a lot of hard work and creativity went into them.
Some of my faves include Chip's "Classic/Later"and "First Talking Appearance" with plenty of good titles thrown in throught out the week. Another great entry from you.
Barbara had some great themes with "Aging Actresses", "Crooners" and "One Hour." There is a Saturday morning feature just waiting to be used.
"ydobon" there are lots of great films but being a sucker for a great theme title you are leading with "Attack of The Pronouns." "Mediocrity through the rest of the schedule.." Now who is pulling whose leg? Great work all around.
Kubirckbuff, I'm in for the duration of your Sturges and Colbert themes.
Congratulations to all of you. Can't wait for what is still to come.
