  1. My own thought about taking her home is that in that moment he realizes that she is his family. That means there is Martha in there somewhere but I'm not sure as he picks her up his thinks "This is Martha's little girl" as much as maybe "She's my niece." I understand that is exactly the same thing but it is just a different perspective. Maybe that is what helps make it a great film in that after all that time harboring thoughts of killing her (long before he shows it to Marty) that in one heartbeat (and one good look at her) all the hate goes away.
  2. "Sitting" was the only Cat Stevens song I really enjoyed. One of McLean's nicer songs was "Castles In The Air." It was the flip side of "Vincent." A later more relaxed recorded tempo made it even nicer. To those of a certain age: Any favorite "B" sides?
  3. Patful: Geez! So much for my chance. Great job. You should be tired with all the work you put into this schedule. I'm not sure I' hang around all night for "Remake Hell" but it's a great idea. I've always enjoyed learning about WWII so I'd be around that day. Many great ideas and a fun read. It's great to have you in this contest (I think.)
  4. One I would like to see again is "Room For One More" (aka "The Easy Way.) A little family picture with Betsy Drake about how they deal with a house full of adopted kids. Don't know where it is but it mus be in a legal mess.
  5. Another discussion from Mr. Programmer could be "The Business of Leasing Films." He could explain the way (the trouble?) he goes through to lease a pakcage of movies. He could possibly break it down into how each studio works.
  6. TCM and AMC rest next to each other on my cable but I'm not sure how one would mix them up. AMC doesn't show enough old movies after about 10am or 11am to be a problem. The bugs are getting worse on regular cable channels. They are bigger. They are higher up on the screen. They are annoying. When I had to sit through "Law and "Order" with the bug counting down the days until "Lipstick Jungle" premiered I thought I'd go crazy. Well when it finally premiered I was livid when "Law and Order" had a bug touting an "all new Lipstick Jungle" next week. And the next time someone pops their head out from behind a bug and sound effects follow them across the screen I may need a new TV.
  7. How did we get a picture from "The Guns of Navarone" in here. Oh yea, "western" Europe. (Well, it's a stretch for Greece but I'll still go with it.)
  8. Jack: I still call them albums too. It is easier to say than CD (it is also easier on the ear.) They are still a collection of songs. Now if you used the term LP then we might have a "failure to communicate." Chris
  9. You just missed it. It was ona day or two ago. According to the the database it is not on schedule so it won't be aired through April.
  10. Westerns didn't hit their stride until the 50s. In addition to those mentioned others to check out are - Escape From Ft. Bravo. - 1953 Warlock - 1959 The Law and Jake Wade - 1959 Jubal - 1957 Last Train From Gun Hill - 1959 The Ox-Bow Incident (which airs tonight.) The Big Country - 1958 Randolph Scott - Budd Boetticher westerns. Yellow Sky - 1948 Wagon Master - 1950
  11. I admire people who have the talent to write. I think I tend think that no one would be that interested to read anymore than what I might write here, if that. MIke: I really enjoy learning about WWII so I'll be visiting yours. Miss O'Shea: (as long as that is not reserved exclusively for Kyle.) Nice to see you have one. Based on your schedules it should be interesting reading. For others: Thankd for sharing your sites. More places to learm. Great
  12. Don't forget to look for her in a small role as the wife on trial in *Adam's Rib* with Tracy and Hepburn.
  13. Judy gets a big "Yeah" from me. She is lovely, funny and very good. "Phffft" was mentioned but "It Should Happen To You" is required vieweing. "The Solid Gold Cadillac" is not shown too often but is fun to watch. "Full of Life" is sitting on my shelf. I must get to it soon.
  14. wow! i have to try that! im gonna stick that DVD in again and start it from the beginning now to my Monkees cd. this is gonns be so fun!! Be careful. BTW you're going to need more than one CD.
  15. ELO? Great band. Jeff Lynne wrote some interesting music and made it more interesting to listen to. He is a unique talent. My favorite albums are "Eldorado" and "Out Of The Blue."
  16. Ben, along with Harry Carey, Jr., are the stars of "Wagon Master" so it is hard to compare. They are quite good though and seem to be enjoying themselves. Dru is fine. My favorite line from SWAYR is Wayne's - "Picnicing, Mr. Pinell?"
  17. >Everybody likes the Carpenters, but not everyone will admit it. Karen had a voice of silk and Richard a gift for arrangement. Unfortunately, the material became weak after some time. When it was good it was very good. One of my favorite songs was "A Song For You."
  18. >suddenly made me think - why aren't their several channels incorporating classics into their schedules. There's so much energy expended on questioning why TCM does or doesn't seem to be adding more recent fare, but shouldn't we instead be putting the squeeze on other channels to incorporate more classics into their offerings? That would be great except they are probably making too much money doing the way they are now. ******** For others: I counted only 5 films made after 1980 for April. That should make you feel better.
  19. I've only ever seen the Fry/Laurie set. I really enjoyed them. They did bog down a bit when it came to America but on the whole it was a lot of fun. They were very detailed about about the time period and then let it get away from them in the New York scenes in the establishing shots. Uncharacteristically sloppy.
  20. Are you new to TCM? Another go round the "31 Days" chat.
  21. Frank: Thanks for the video. It's still a cool song. I was listening to "So" this week. I think "Red Rain" is the best song on the album. "Big Time" is fun as well. It's the only Gabriel album I have though.
  22. hope you'll be jumping in August. Just keep an eye open for 'movieman1957' who will likely be jumping too. Well, if they are we meet at my house. (I must invite Judith.) I'm sending my family away for the day and checking my supply of tapes and DVD's. I'll supply the M & Ms. An "Essential" and a day. It hasn't been this good since Buster had his day last August.
  23. I was introduced to the Monkees in the mid-80s thanks to MTV. I used to watch the show and I ended up liking their music. I'm very poppy when it comes to music... except rap, although rap is now much more poppy than it was when I was very into it. The Monkees are my second favorite group from the 60s. As someone who was the right age when they came on TV I still have a fondness for The Monkees. Still have all the original albums (vinyl.) I enjoyed Nesmith's tunes but my favorite was "Pleasant Valley Sunday." Up until about five years ago I could hit those high notes in the background at the end near the fade-out. Never did enjoy the Beach Boys. I was too busy listening to The Beatles.
  24. There is now another page that, as you correctly stated, may be lost. One funny thing is they archived "Paper Moon" that had nine posts and then set up a new thread in the current list. Go figure.
