"Neighborhood House" is showing June 21 at 9:40am EDT.

Charley Chase is coming June 21 at 9:40am. "Neighborhood House." (appropriately before the Laurel and Hardy double feature.)

>I would object, however, to conservatives like Sean Hannity or Cal Thomas. They undoubtedly would make bland selections or demand censorship.
What an assumption! I might remind you that conservatives aren't all that crazy about censorship. People from both sides of the political spectrum are equally talented in picking bland movies.
Be partisan all you want but don't assume people who might not agree with you are idiots.

A history teacher? Great. My daughter wants to be one.
TCM has helped with some of these films. The last three have been shown on occasion. "Paths of Glory" is an Essentials this year. It should show up again this summer.
"Oh, What A Lovely War" has been on Retroplex. Good stuff.

One of my favorite movies. I assume that's German but do we know the literal translation? THe only German I ever learned was from liner notes on classical music albums and "Combat."
Interesting poster for the black and yellow background.

I saw this several years ago from AMC's Film Preservation weekend. An ok film. I agree it is probably still shown because it's Ford's film. Some fun parts but not great. I found some characteristics that become common in later Ford films.

Things are well. Enjoying visiting with you and all the other fine people here. I hope you get your system fixed soon. We need you back more often.

Hi there:
Nice to see you back in this end of the board.

It;s late in the day but I was reminded that today is the birthday of Stan Laurel.

Hi FG:
I hope all is well with you.
>Ciao, Chris -- I think the lovely MissG is on a vacation.
>"Lovely"? Are we speaking of the same girl?
Indeed we are.
I'm beginning to wonder if you are having trouble with the ladies here.
I, on the other hand, am getting along wonderfully with them. At least from my point of view. Be well,
Chris

Great poster. It looks so much taller than what other may be. This thread is always wortha visit.

At the risk of putting too fine a point on it journalists are to be unbiased and hopefully fair. Commentators are those who show their political slants to their hearts (and their audiences) content.
How successful either group is is a matter left to the public.

I heard him on our local Baltimore radio station Friday morning. He couldn't have sounded better. he was happy, joking and taking notes for a question the host asked him to put to his guest Sunday. Nothing to indicate it would be anything but a great day. So sad it wasn't.

I think the lovely MissG is on a vacation. She indicated as much on another board. I thought she would have let all know so we wouldn't worry.
She did not say how long she might be gone but I gathered it was a big trip.

See. I told you someone would remind you.

For anyone:
I'm not being cranky here but several people always seem to not like "31 Days of Oscar" and I'm curious what is disappointing about it. Too much of the same films from year to year?
Universal / Paramount may be more of a problem from their end. (Though who wouldn't want more of them?)
-
Man, that's red. I like they way they worked the key up the left side. It's there but doesn't intrude on the rest of it. Thanks.

Licensing agreements. TCM has to rent everything they show. The good thing is that TCM has been able to expand who they have been able to make arrangements with. Some of the biggest treats are expanded access to Columbia, live action Disney and the Hal Roach library.

Much as I can't stand Maher because he has said some ridiculous things I understand TCM having an interest in him. He may have a politically themed show but he does have a resume of some film appearances (though hardly anything worth noting) and a career as a stand -up comic.
Coulter, Limbaugh and the other political commentators won't fit because their profession isn't broad enough for TCM's audience, I think.
Medved might make a good one with his background as a critic. Shoot, Leonard Maltin would make a good one. It might be fun having two people like Osborne and Maltin having a chat for an evening.

There are three Lloyd shorts showing this Sunday night as this week's "Silent Sunday Nights." It's no SUTS but it's a little bit of Lloyd.

Thank you so much. (That's not a compliment I get too often.) BTW I got my July issue of "Now Playing" and "You Can't Take It With You" is on twice next month.
You can go to the schedule and find it (or through the data base) and have TCM send you a reminder. I think it was one of the Essentials being shown. After you see it there should be a thread already set up for us to talk about it.
Enjoy.

As this month's theme is not exactly my preferences I think it is great that they aired the silent movies they did last week. I can't imagine where else anyone would get a chance to view them.
Having had them shown weekly when I was a kid I'm not that fond of Charlie Chan or Mr. Moto but they have their place in American film history and certainly should be shown.

You can't go wrong with "They Were Expendable." Some others to consider, though I don't know that they are really any better might be "Wake Island," "A Walk In The Sun," "So Proudly We Hail" or maybe "The Story of GI Joe."
Just a thought.

"We're Not Dressing" and oddball film with Bing Crosby, Carole Lombard and Burns and Allen. A cruise gone wrong shipwrecks our cast on an island.
"Monkey Business" with the Marx Brothers.
"Dante's Inferno" with Spencer Tracy. The finale at least happens on a cruise ship.
If you want to be sarcastic you could include "Lifeboat" and "Abandon Ship."
(I had a theme for these in a programming challenge here.)
