Recently watched the whole series of "Jeeves and Wooster." It was a great deal of fun. I'm getting "A Bit of Fry and Laurie" to run through now. A variety type of show. You better have a taste for British humor or it won't be much fun. In keeping with our music thread Hugh Laurie does play the piano somtimes.

I saw him on "Law and Order: SVU" last night. He was good. I remember how everyone praised him when he did "The King of Comedy." My favorite is "The Bellboy." Some of his movie stuff with Dean I find him a little overbearing in a Jim Carrey kind of way. I do like him more in the old TV shows I've seen.

"Love Affair" and "An Affair To Remember" were on opposite each other this morning. Timing is everything.

Some brief notes. Not much for Sunday. Monday my favorite film composer John Barry gets a birthday tribute. Tuesday this year is election day so I had a day for Presidents and elections. Wednesday it's Joel McCrea. I like him more and more. He was my SOTM a few challenges ago but I get different movies to schedule. "Before Their Time" is a night for those who died too soon. Thursday gets to be SOTM Edward G. Robinson night. Friday on "Stage and Screen" it's stars who played the same role in both places. Saturday morning is in honor of my son's recent triumphal performance as an extra pirate in his community college's production of "Pirates of Penzance." (Way to go Ian.) Saturday afternoon is a cluster of films for child stars. Saturday night is a hodge podge of favorite films and less well known films that people might enjoy. I know the times are bound to be wrong somewhere in there. I may have to add a short here or there but I got it on here. I may come back and add things as it comes to me but that's it for now. Chris

Great schedule. You scared me though. I picked the same week!! So far I haven't duplicated anything which means I don't have to remake any part of the schedule. On the other it means I must not be doing something right. (The Vignette Spotlight is grand.) Good job. Glad you are back and working hard.

I enjoy the film but it is mainly, for me, a comfortable western. Not too thought provoking, the 60's obligatory young couple, a better cast than script and some humor. That may sound worse than I mean it but I enjoy the way Stewart and O'Hara work. Stewart and Keith are good in their scenes. Keith's accent is a bit hard to follow at times for me. A pleasant way to spend some time.

Well, the hair is all wrong. Mike's backside isn't what it used to be nor is the USA. And God doesn't make deals like that. Let's move on.

It's a fine film but I wouldn't place it over "Winchester '73" or "The Naked Spur."

I don't think that one could say TCM is a pay channel in the same sense as HBO. They are an expanded basic package on the cable or more likely now part of a digital package. That may be a different situation on a satellite. RainingViolets: Those two movies are more a situation of one's geography. "Midnight Express" played at around 4:00am ET.

I found it interesting until Brando showed up. For me it's at least 30 min. too long.

Thelma: The films are not TCM's to license. They license them from the studios. Even it's original library went to Time/Warner when they bought the Turner conglomerate. TCM has to rent everything they show.

I think MTV is apples and oranges to TCM but could it happen? Sure. It would be fine with me. BTW, I meant no offense in my response to your comments several posts back. I was trying to make the statement without maligning you in any way. I hope you felt I disagreed respectfully with you. If it came across as too harsh, as it did to Fred, that certainly wasn't my intention.

Wouldn't it be harder to keep three channels running? Would cable companies give up more money for additional channels that would seem to offer a smaller viewership? Where is the start up money coming from? TCM 3 would be the toughest sell. Even among loyal TCM viewers that would watch a strictly devoted channel to silents would be very small. I can't imagine there would be enough to fill a schedule and if there were the repitition would be tremendous. Is there a market for post 1970's through 1990's movies? After that you have the pay channels pretty much cornering that market. I'm not trying to be contrary as much as this is food for thought.

Fred: I didn't "condemn" her for starting another thread. I suggested that she just can't blame management for not knowing when there are plenty of responses here. I think you will find I wasn't rude or malicious in any way. I appreciate the fact that she is interested in TCM. I know she is or she wouldn't be here. But this is similar to what goes on every year. I understand people are worried. (I think I already mentioned that.) Don't we have 5 or 6 of these discussions going on now. We're always going to have these discussions. (BTW I'm used to "it" more than you know.) How many times has the programmer come here himself and answered these comments. Has not Kyle posted the "mission statement" from 1994 and from recent years as well? If the programmer's comments are good enough for you than nothing will be. So this will go on. I fully expect we'll have another discussion when "Summer Under The Stars" comes in August. For the record, I don't know anyone at TCM. Nobody "got" to me to support them. I'm just trying to be realstic about the situation.

I'm with mr6666. I got as far as the 15th and I've seen 100 of them in my life. They aren't all great but seldom was I bored.

I like the climax of the film. You knew it was coming but I thought it was well handled and it was exciting and realistic. The way the bullets ricochetted and sounded seemed realistic. Stewart is a good strong character. McNally is an appropriate jerk. Duryea is properly slimy. I only had trouble with Will Geer being Wyatt Earp. (Maybe because it's hard to see Grandpa Walton in that role.)
